Really neat ruins that were discovered under the city, well informed guide and best of all, it's free. Not easy to find, they do tours on the hour, so you must be on a tour to visit, they are closed for lunch too. Check in with them before you visit, get a time slot and come back to visit. It is on the back side of the millennium bank, the museum is part of the bank it seems. It is on their property, they discovered the ruins during construction of a parking garage and preserved it for the public, instead of destroying it like most places have.

One of the best highlights of our trip to Portugal was this free archeological site. The 50 minute guided tour in English was hosted by a passionate and knowledgeable archaeologist. The site was discovered when the property owner, Millennium bcp bank, wanted to build a parking garage. The bank created a Foundation to support the site and fund these excellent tours to see the Roman ruins and other layers. Logistics: Must make advanced reservation via the website. Submit the form indicating your day preference and they will email back with day/time confirmation. Don't be late as tours begin on time. Enter at address provided (#9) and wait in lobby area near glass flooring. The tour exits from address #21, a few doors down. There are many, many people turned away daily for not having a reservation as it's limited capacity. Of note for tall folks, the ceiling height is low in a few areas of the excavation site as I'm only 5' 1" ft tall and I had to be careful not to hit my head.

Care: Closed from July till November 2019 You should go there at 16:00. All other appointments are booked by groups. Great Expo, which is in the underground. Best of all, its free with a great and funny guide. Be in Time, if you are too late you cant get in. Greater groups should book their tour via phone or Email. If you want a place for sure you should book too.

Free Archeological tour of ancient ruins (in English or Portuguese). It's crazy to think this is where the original hub that later became the city of Lisbon originated, and now it's under a bank! Joana was very knowledgeable and it's super interesting to see that the NARC contains various "layers" from each era. Super recommended!

Museum space in the city center, very well maintained and showing a little of the city destroyed in the earthquake.

Archaeological remains were discovered here during the renovation of the buildings of the Millennium BCP bank in the early nineties. The responsible attitude of the bank enabled the expansion of excavations and the emergence of this wonderful archaeological center dating back 2500 years of Lisbon's history. Núcleo Arqueológico da Rua dos Correeiros, which was recognized as a National Monument in Lisbon in 2015, contains finds from the Iron Age to the rebuilding period after the Great Lisbon earthquake in 1755. The museum can only be visited by appointment. At your appointment time, the museum's tour guide will greet you and show you around. When we visited, there was no one there other than my wife and me. Our guide was very polite and professional. It was one of the best museums I have ever visited with its research, preservation and most importantly exhibition method. I think they are a very good positive example for modern museology, especially with their exhibition methods. If you are interested in Lisbon history or quality museums, I definitely recommend you to go.

The site is a lovely glimpse into the latest 2500 years of Lisbon. I really felt I was getting to know the real heart of the city by going down to see the vestiges from the Phoenician, Roman and Pombaline times. Also, the tour guide was extremely knowledgeable, friendly and very kind as to give us a tour even though we arrived 20 minutes later than the normal start time. It's a wonderful experience for history lovers and I fully recommend it. Try it for an hour while you're in the center of Lisbon! It's free!

The museum can only be visited as a guided tour! You need to reserve up front online or via telephone. This can also be done (with a bit of luck) short term. I filled the form on 12:30 asking for a tour on the same day and received an answer at 2:15pm that i am on the 4pm tour. It is so much worth a visit! You go down some steps and back in time thousands of years. Seeing a bit of the river that flows below the city was amazing. The guide transports a lot odf information also using a screen to demonstrate. A perfectly arranged tour that gets you very close to the old buildings feeling like a time traveler below the city. Perfectly arranged tour! I can definitely recommend it to everybody who is interested inthe acient history of the city.

We booked online and went on a weekday morning. I would definitely recommend. The tour gives a good insight into life in ancient times and it is short enough that you won’t get bored!

Amazing tour, it's incredible what is right underneath your feet here in Lisboa! Lots of layers of history (literally!). Can't believe how the city and people evolved over time. Our tour guide was marvelous! Super kind and knowledgeable. A must see... make your reservation in advance and arrive on time!

It was a fascinating and very educational tour. Our tour guide Joanna was an archeologist and gave a detailed account of all the ruins. The tour is free but you need to book ahead, they only can do small groups due to the tight spaces. It last for about an hour and I have to say, it is one of the best free tours in Lisbon. The ruins were discovered during renovations of the building and BCP have done a great job in preserving the site and making it pubic for everyone.

May need to call to arrange a guided tour, but well worth it. Anna took 8 of us underground to show us the ruins of Roman salted fish tanks, the Pre-Roman habitats and the post 1877 earthquake modifications. The display and video presentation was very informative and filled in the gaps to explain many mysteries. The tour starts in the bank but Google doesn't start you there.

An unexpectedly fantastic experience! The tour starts inside the bank and runs everyday expect Sunday. We didn’t realize its a guided tour that occurs at certain times. They normally recommend making a reservation prior so you’re guaranteed a spot and know what time to go. We happen to get there a few minutes before a tour and people didn’t show up, which allowed us to join without a reservation. One of the best museum tours we’ve been on! It’s about 30 minutes and our guide did a great job explaining the history of the site. They have done a great job combining the archeological site with modern technology for a great experience. Highly recommend and it’s free!

Note: a little difficult to find: access is via archway 69 on Rua Augusta. Fascinating. Very informative guide will take you back in time over the history of Lisbon through building remains and objects found on site. Book first for a tour, all free.

Amazing FREE museum on Lisbon's history from Phoenician times to present. You can get a reservation for up to 12 people via the website usually the same week you make the request. You start with a visit to Phoenician homes, then Roman workshops and houses, then Muslim trash pits, before moving into Medieval and modern times. All in an excellently curated one-hour tour under the bank. Highly recommended to understand Lisbon and its history.

Unique and fascinating experience. Excellent curation, great visual/digital interpretation of site, and thoughtful presentation - thank you archaeologist Joana. If only more historic buildings opened up like this! Must book in advance, limited places.

Museum underneath a bank, excavated archeological site. Guide was very knowledgeable. During tour you get short history of Lisbon through the ages. You need to email and set up a tour time. No walk ins as this is underneath an active business.

What a treasure! We felt so lucky to have found this tour, it was a hour very well spent. We learned so much and our tour guide, Isabel, was a wealth of information. it was amazing to actually walk around in Roman ruins. Thank you!!

Poor information - apparently you need a reservation. This information was not on the website and was given to me when I showed up and had waited like 10 min. What a waste of time. Seems to be a trend here in Lisbon. Missing information.

Recommend visiting this archeological exhibit. It is free and probably the most informative time you can spend in Lisbon. You learn about ancient civilizations that have come and gone; and literally get to see and hear about the foundation of modern Lisbon. Definitely get tickets online because I believe there was a couple turned away while we were waiting to start the tour. I wish I had better photos but was to interested in the tour to take photos.

Pretty amazing! This is a wonderful archeological tour of the history of Lisboa from the Phoenicians up to the present day. Our small group were led through the unhurried labyrinthian underground tour by a great guide that was very well informed, and she answered all our questions along the path. Definitely a worthwhile visit, which is easily arranged via the website for reservations. There is no charge. Many thanks!

Excellent opportunity to learn the history of Lisbon from the perspective of an archeologist at this wonderfully presented (and free) museum. You must make a reservation in advance from their website.

We found the bank where the museum is located and a woman at the entrance handed us a brochure and sent us away. She wasn't interested in helping direct us to the entrance for the museum, which is not where GPS sent us. At the correct entrance, the guard told us to call for an entry ticket. With no internet access there, we couldn't call with Whatsapp or use the website to book a time. The two representatives seemed put out that we wanted to visit what seemed to be a fascinating museum. In our 12 days in Portugal, these 2 we're the only unfriendly and unhelpful people. Other than this incident, every single person has been wonderful. Since we were not able to visit the museum, we can't review it. We made a special trip to this part of Lisbon for this piece of history.

Incredible tour, what a gem! One of the best archeological tours I have ever been on. Well presented excavations, beautiful artifacts, multimedia that really supports and tells the story and the kindest guide! I will recommend to anyone visiting Lisbon!

Short but incredible tour to see some of the oldest features of Lisbon. It was free and the guide was very knowledgeable and funny, too. Don't skip this.

This place is amazing tour through 2500 years of Lisbon history. The tour is free, but is conducted by an archaeologist. They take you beneath a bank that discovered this site when excavating the area for a car park. Thankfully they choose to preserve it. There are Roman Baths, Medieval burial, remains of Phoenician houses and a Roman factory. For lovers of history this is a must. The tour departs from building 21 but you should put your name down with security next door. Only some of the routes are conducted in English.

Brilliant archeologic site takes you beneath the street of Lisbon to see the physical evidence of the world that existed here in the past. Words are trivial compared to the experience of actually being among the ruins of a distant culture. This has been the highlight of my Lisbon experience to date. Highly recommend.

Amazing archaeological site accessed via a free 30-40 minute guided tour available in English or Portuguese (not sure about other languages). There are also some display cabinets containing objects found at the site which you can only view during the tour. The staff were very accommodating and the guide very nice, knowledgable and happy to answer questions. Building remains from roughly three different historical periods were found where the bank who owns the building above was trying to build a basement. This was abandoned when the discoveries were made... I'll say no more, so as to not spoil the surprises this great little underground tour has to offer... :)

A very well-established archaeological site, I dare say it was the best I visited in Lisbon. We made an appointment in advance, but on the day we arrived late due to heavy rain and traffic. However, when we arrived, we had our guide D. Maria de Lourdes patiently waiting for us. Not only was he extremely friendly throughout the visit, he explained everything to us in an incredible and enlightening way. Without a doubt, anyone who visits this space will leave knowing much more about Lisbon and all the layers that make up its history. Thank you and keep up the excellent work.
