Love this museum! It used to be an old power station and they have turn it into an beautiful experiential museum. It's one of a kind, as it uses all the original parts of the power plant. With creative presentation, cut-away sections, and internal views, you really get a good understanding of how a power station works. Everything from burning coals, to the Uber works of the stream turbine, electrical generators and transmission, the water cooling systems, and waste water treatment... etc. You get to see everything in it's original place in a real power plant. It's simply amazing! 👍👏😃⭐

We started from the second floor and it was too boring at the beginning, but then by going forward enjoyed this museum a lot. There are a lot of interactive things which would be interesting for kids and adults. Would recommend it!

For 11 euros you get to visit Tejo Power Station and MAAT Modern Art Museum. The sections in the Tejo Power Station were well explained, beautifully recreated and exhibited. Your engineering side would appreciate this museum. Recommended.

Oh man... Let me tell you... I was actually looking for a completely other museum, but ended up in MAAT museum (a part of that museum is this power station). I did not expect to see the power station and I literally had no knowledge of the processes of generating electricity. Some spaces are amazing and visually breathtaking. Yeah. Inside the museum. But overall... I can't give it more than 4 stars since the price of the ticket was too high for what I got in return. I don't know... I mean... I am comparing it to other museums in Lisbon, so...

Wow, amazing view into the horrible world of coal power plant workers. So glad we have better working conditions and greater automation in remaining coal plants and hopefully soon, we can retire them all worldwide. Very cool to see that from then to now the basics of electrical power generation is the same - steam turbines spinning alternators.

Great museum with a look to the past engineering wonder of electricity generation in Lisbon. Great interactive demos for kids and adults alike. Wonder round and learn about the brilliant feat of science this tejo is. Tickets for the power station get you into maat next door and vice versa, worth a trip to both!

It was great museum experience visiting this former power plant which used to supply electricity to Lisbon and the surrounding areas. Fascinating to imagine the working conditions back in the day.

(Translated by Google) Great place to snap some shots late evening. Central Tejo was a thermoelectric power plant, owned by the Reunied Gas and Electricity Companies (CRGE), which supplied the entire Lisbon region with electricity. Built in 1908, its period of productive activity is between 1909 and 1972, although from 1951 it was used as a reserve plant, producing only to complete the energy supply of hydro plants. In 1975 it was disqualified, leaving the productive system. Over time it has undergone several modifications and extensions, having gone through continuous phases of construction and alteration of the production systems. In a new phase of its existence, Central Tejo opened to the public for the first time in 1990, then as a Museum of Electricity. After a new period of restoration work on its buildings and equipment, it definitely reopened in 2006. (Original) Great place to snap some shots late evening. Just an amazing museum! Built in early 20th century power plant facilities, this museum combines a wonderful piece of historical buildings (and internal equipment) preservation, interesting educational materials about electricity and power generation, and some temporary modern art exhibitions (being a part of MAAT). Highly recommended to visit especially for those who are interested in tech history, tech fans, etc.

Real great decommissioned coal power station exhibit. Enjoyed exploring it and learning how power is made + seeing all the mind boggling engineering inside. Glad this one’s decommissioned but it’s concerning how many of these are still being built and operated around the world 🌎

Very interesting museum on the site of a real power plant that was active until the 70s of last century. The building itself is an impressive example of the industrial architecture and it stands by the river in a prime location, close to a number of major monuments related to the Discoveries in Belém.

Loved my time at the MAAT! The museum is made up of 3 big sections. The first one is housed in an old power plant (Tejo Power Station), the gardens (which I didn't explore much), and the new white building. The museum tends to focus on quality, not quantity. In total, they had 3-4 exhibits but they were large. One of the visiting exhibits is called Plug-in by Joana Vasconcelos. She had 2 large format installations. The first was a true-to-size tree made up of fabric with the roots extending along the exhibit floors. There were tiny LED lights on the branches, between the leaves. You can compare with the people in the background for size. It was incredible. The other was a large octopus in the new building. The Tejo Power Station building also had a permanent exhibit showcasing how the power plant used to operate, plus an exhibit on climate change, as well as the Paris Agreement, etc. It was very informative. They basically have all this large equipment and some of it even still works! (Check out the boiler room) If you have a few days in Lisbon, highly recommend giving MAAT a visit.

Amazing insight into the workings of an electricity plant powered by coal. You can see the insane working conditions and the pollution such systems bring. I think it really proves the point of why renewable is so much better for the people and the planet.

This was a good visit for our family but .... we were lucky to have a few people in our group that understood how electricity is made. The museum somehow fails to explain this clearly and simply at the very beginning of the visit. As a result, a lot of people visit this very well laid out and kept power plant without really understanding how one starts by burning coal and ends having electricity. If you are technically minded, then I would advise a visit.

The power station is one of the parts of MAAP, with this being the most impressive part in my opinion. Both parts cost 9 euro in tot to enter or is also free as a part of the Lisboa card. Some of the art in this section is confronting/disorientating but in a good way. It's so near good transport links and has good ocean views from the front
