Translated to “the cemetery of fun” People find it strange that I enjoy walking around cemeteries - I feel that have so much character and stories to tell! This is the first cemetery I have been too where you can actually see inside the glass doors and see the coffins on the shelves. This cemetery has been one of the nicest and one with the most interesting mausoleums- it is sad when you see the ones that haven’t been taken care of and are up for auction! Would be so nice to try to track down family if there are any left… It is home to the Mausoleum of the Dukes of Palmela, the largest mausoleum in Europe. Definitely worth coming and walking around - you could spend hours! As an added bonus there is a great view from the other end of the entrance gate!

At the end of the route of the famous 28 tram you will discover the biggest cemetery in Lisbon, which it has started operating in 1833. The cemetery is very big which we didn't walked the whole area but we did do a section of it. There's a sign neat the entrance that gives a bit of its history but also it informs you that tours do take place in the cemetery.

About as far from an English cemetery as you can get. Not a blade of grass in sight. Just endless avenues of miniature mausoleums like so many marble beach huts. Some of them like tiny holiday homes with a porticoed front door and tiled roof. But if you peek through the net curtained windows you see the actual coffins on shelves. One had a fake fireplace with family photographs on the mantle piece. The cemetery is over run with cats which seem to have set up homes in mausoleums with broken windows. Ugh! In one there were food bowls set out for them. A fascinating place off the beaten tourist track for those seeking peace, solitude and a slightly scary experience.

I met a beautiful, intelligent Russian here named Irina. She wanted to come back to the UK with me but the Russians wouldn't allow it. RIP Irina! I hope you found your God. X

Very peaceful and interesting cemetery. From the main entrance walk straight to the backend (5 minutes) for an amazing view of the bridge access. Many interesting tombstones, perfectly maintained.

The largest cemetery in Lisbon, which began operating in 1833. You will find the entrance here at the end of the route of the famous 28 tram. Huge Cemetery with equipped graves. At the entrance there is a sign that tells a little about its history, and also informs that there are guided tours in the cemetery. At the end of the cemetery, there is a beautiful view of the Lisbon Bridge.

What a wonderful, calm place. A reflexion on our own mortality, those who came before us, and those who may remember us. Most tombstones are very well maintained, others not so much. Some places offer great vistas on the city and river.

A cemetery worth visiting. It's anyway the final destination of the tram 28 (or start, how you want to see it). It's a mix of normal and impressive graves. Statues decorating the graves show that the people laying here wanted a grave that shows wealth even after death. It'll take you aroung 1 and a half hour to walk through the hole park.

Fascinating place. The architecture, sculpture artistry and history are impressive. I spent part of an afternoon exploring the narrow lanes, reading the names and guessing at the stori3s of those interred here. Serene, beautiful with views out over the city and the river.

We stumbled across this cemetery after getting off the tram nearby. We were hot and looking for somewhere to shelter from the heat and noise and smell and hoardes of tourists. This place is a sanctuary. Lots of shade and it's so peaceful and really well looked after. Probably stating the obvious here - but highly recommended if you want to take a break and get away from the usual tourist attractions.

(Translated by Google) At the terminus of tram line 28, you will find the Prazeres cemetery. Tree-lined paths where funeral monuments follow one another. A place to discover, uncrowded and quiet, offering a view of the April 25 metal bridge and the statue of Christ on the horizon. We arrived there a bit by chance, but we had a pleasant walk with the children. Cats roam freely in the middle of the graves.

Excellent goth liker cemetery. Packed with classic tombs and beautiful sculptures. This church yard has a special identity. you will experience the hour glass with bat wings all over. it's actually also some of the decor on the main entrance! It's easy to navigate and there is even public toilets on the perimeter. And plenty of benches. Since the yard is on higher ground you will also from some parts have en excellent view over parts of Lisbon.

Wonderful experience. Be sure to catch the #28 Tram there. Give yourself a good two hours to stroll around the whole place. Also provides great views of Ponte 25 de Abril.

The layout and tombs of this cemetery reminded me of Recoleta Cemetery in Buenos Aires, but this one has lots of cypresses and a nice view. At the office by the entrance I requested a map of the cemetery. The map has a self-guided tour of the tombs of the most famous people, but, unless you’re very familiar with Portuguese history and culture, you’ll probably not know anybody. Recoleta Cemetery at least has Eva Perón. Interesting points, for me, were the big mausoleum at the edge of the cemetery, the view of the bridge from the observation area, and the tomb of a young woman who was killed at the Bataclan massacre in Paris.

(Translated by Google) Of the best cemeteries I have visited. At the architectural height of the Almudena in Madrid. It has its gloomy touch even more for the ruined tombs in which you can see even bone remains. (Original) De los mejores cementerios que he visitado.

That's really worth visiting. It is located at the end station of tram 28. So if you plan to do a tour in the city, taking tram 28, it is definitely a good idea to take your time and visit the cemetery. You also have a good view of the famous bridge. Some huge historic family graves are also there, which personally weren't so impressive for me as all other graves belonging to normal people.

This is a beautiful cemetery that has plenty to see if you are into unique structures. The cemetery pretty much has every square inch covered with some unique masoleum. At one point, famous people were buried for a while. You can easily stroll through this place and just be in awe of the lengths they went through to create a resting place for themselves and their loved ones.

Tranquility among the dead. As a first timer to a European cemetery, this was nice, and almost like a walk in the park. It was sombre, and some the crypts were very old. Tram station is a mere 50 metres away and the St. Luis bridge is very clearly visible. Maybe we can find some answers among the deceased.
