Such a beautiful scenery. This stunning UNESCO World Heritage tower was once the port of embarkation for Portuguese explorers and a ceremonial gateway to the capital. These cloudy sunset made the place even more magical and special. Nevertheless, what fascinated me the most was the little bay with waves constantly splashing to our feet.

Breathtaking place. Definitely worth to visit. I was impressed to see the castle in the water, and this small beach where you can take a photo in front of the castle. Might be too crowded. Also, there is a nice park nearby, and many other sightseeing are very close

Such a beautiful tower. It's amazing how it's held up over the course of time and the stories it could tell. Beautiful day, not a lot of people. Nice that there is a large green space to relax and just take it in (not supposed to bring dogs, but some people do). Oh, and there is a bathroom near the road.

I never post reviews of monuments, but this time I have to do it. The ticket is 6€ and I waited in the line about 20 minutes before entering. The safety condition is not at all satisfactory. The spiral staircase is quite steep and narrow, all the stone around you is greasy because of people touching it, and there is not even a handrail. If you happen to slip, there is nothing around you to hang on and you can severely hurt yourself and others. The tower itself is very evocative from the outside, truly a beautiful view. However when you get inside you see absolutely nothing. On the ground floor you see just a few cannons. The first floor is the best, as you are just next to the crenellations of the tower and have a view of the inner part. On the other two floors the only thing you do is look outside the window. There is nothing written, you don’t get to read anything about the history of the place. There is absolutely nothing to do, nothing to see. The rooms are completely empty, not even a box with jewels, clothing or the usual things you can find in these sites. It’s really sad: they could make it more interesting by adding small things but it feels like no one cares about it.

This is an interesting historical structure, and looking around outside is free. To go inside, you need a ticket, which can either be purchased online ahead of time or on-site (curiously, the ticket booth is not at the entrance to the tower and you have to go to the other side of the beach near the water closets). On a weekday around noon, the wait is a good hour long. Personally, I wouldn't wait that long, even if it was free, but my kids both really wanted to go in, so we waited. There is no shade at all for the line, but nearby there are a few trees, so I stayed in line while the kids waited in the shade. There are nearby snack stands where you can get the kids callipos, or other frozen treats, and that helped immensely for their wait. Once inside, there is a further wait to get to the upper levels (no further payments required). As the stairs up are very narrow spiral stairs and the upper levels have limited capacity, there is a set time interval for a given group to move up to each successive level that is managed by staff. The views are nice and there are a few short descriptions on how the various rooms were used. This is a very popular tourist attraction that is popular among many websites as a top destination. Again, it's neat to see, and free from the outside. If you get there early, your wait will be much improved, in which case, it may be worth your time, but personally, I wouldn't recommend it unless you make it a priority and get there early enough to cut down on the wait.

The tower looks good from the outside and I recommend staying there and not going in. Just walk around, take some pictures. There is nothing interesting inside that would justify the 30 minutes wait. Rooms are empty and you cannot go all the way to the top, apart from the first floor, you'll be looking outside through the dirty windows. If you still want to go in, the ticket office is further from the bridge entrance, inside the park. Even if you've got a Lisbon Card, you still have to go there and validate it.

A very nice architectural masterpiece built at the sea shore. It looks amazing on the sunset and you can stay on the stairs located in front of it to admire the beautiful view. Being a touristic attraction it's a bit crowded during the day but you can visit it on the sunset when the landscape is amazing.

Definitely visit this one! The view is amazing! Tip: stay a bit longer, after 19.00 to see and walk the beach the near the tower. The water level decreases.

I visited the Belém Tower on a Friday. I got there around 11am and because I had the Lisboa Card. I was able to purchase my ticket faster because they have a special line for those who have that card. I waited in line for approximately 1 hour. At around 11:50am, the person checking the tickets to get in the tower, was telling people that there was no more tickets for the day. When I looked behind me the line was long. I STRONGLY recommend to get there early to buy your ticket or to buy them in advance. The second floor is where you will find the balcony and the best views of the tower. I recommend that you take your time to admire the architecture and the views. Once you go up a level, you won't be able to go back to the previous floors. A security guard will block the entrance. Again don't rush your visit, remember that you waited almost an hour to get in😉 Give it a thumbs up, if this was helpful!

It’s nice to visit, but the waiting time to enter with online tickets is ~ 1 hour. It’s nice that the amount of people inside the monument is regulated, so it’s not crowded at all, but it would be nicer if the tickets are sold for a particular time point. It would be much easier for everyone. The place is also very windy and no shadow, it is better to take a jacket and a hat to protect yourself from wind and sun.

Recommend a visit for sure when in Lisbon! Beautiful, interesting design and history. Tickets are bought in the park in front, not to easy to know before. We had a lot of queue this day, for ticket, for entering castle and after each floor to go up. The outside is honestly better then the inside :) personally.

The Torre de Belem, perhaps the most important cultural symbol of Portugal, is definitely a place I recommend visiting and buying tickets to go inside. Previously surrounded by water but now located close to the shore, this structure can be considered the finest example of Manueline architecture in Portugal. From the outside, it may not seem like there's much inside, but there are actually many details you can explore. You can climb to every floor of the tower, allowing you to understand how it was truly used. There's nothing added or fabricated inside, everything is as it really was. I see people complaining in reviews that there's nothing inside. Yes, there are no belongings inside. This tower was actually built to welcome explorers returning from sea adventures, merchants, and famous commanders. I don't understand what people expect to see inside and can't see. If you have such expectations, I also recommend not entering. However, if you're interested in architecture and history, I believe you can enjoy the tower. Also, I should mention that when I visited, there wasn't much of a crowd, but I had to wait a bit to enter. Inside the tower, there's only one staircase between floors, so you can't move up and down as freely as you'd like. To avoid crowding on the stairs, the staff coordinate visitors using walkie-talkies. As I said, I didn't see it as a problem when I visited because it wasn't too crowded, but this could be an issue during peak times.

Beautiful and impressive tower. At the moment (as of August 2020) the upper level is closed due to CoViD which makes the visit pretty short with not much too see. The sight is included in the Lisboa Card. So when you have the card and there is no line you can go and check it out. Otherwise paying for it not really worth it. The view from the outside is sufficiently enjoyable.

Such a gorgeous tower on the sea. Lovely to visit inside as well and get great views. The ticket office is in the park and you need a ticket to go inside. Otherwise it is free to admire from the outside. Someone was playing the violin outside which really added to the experience.

How charming and delightful! It is a trek to get to from Lisbon center proper but we’ll worth the trip. Take the train three stops and you are there. At low tide, one can walk across the sand to the tower. It is closed on Mondays. The tower is a fine example of Manuelian architecture and while small, very beautiful. The nearby park is a great place to relax for a while after the monastery or many of the museums.

This was a picturesque spot. We went in and took the steps up through the tower. You can’t go all the way to the top. They sent giant groups of people up the stairs. Once you reach the rooms there really isn’t much to see. There are so many people that you end up getting right back in line to go up more steps to another crowded room. When we came out of that we rent into the bigger room. It was literally an empty room with a bunch of cannons. Not really to me worth the money for the ticket. But it was very beautiful outside. Tip: if you want to go in buy your ticket online and save yourself the wait at the ticket kiosk located in the garden.

The tower itself is a beautiful building in an interesting location, being located right on the beach. We weren't inside due to very long queues (>1h on a Wednesday). The place around the tower was heavily visited as well, which affected our experience too. It's nice to have seen it, but didn't live up to our expectations. The ticket office is also placed in the park, bit further away from the tower itself.

Wonderful views. I spend 3 hours with my kid and family. A small sour made our time more natural and wonderful. Beautiful riverside(seaside) location. Big garden to breath and rest. Small coffee and wine shops are available. Kids playground is nearby and my kid enjoyed it. Ducks are another attraction for my kid. Overall must go and enjoyable location for nature lovers, historical place lovers..

The Belem Tower is fascinating, with its beautiful exterior complemented by the sea and waves in the background. However, the fairly long queue to enter, combined with the windy and drizzling day, made the experience a bit challenging. Inside, I saw the smallest and cutest cannons I've ever seen. The terrace on the upper floor also offered a pretty decent view. Whether it's worth waiting in line and paying to enter is entirely up to you. If I were to revisit, I'd likely opt to spend more time admiring the exterior and taking more photos.

Nice view from the building though it wasn’t spectacular. 8 euros to enter. I arrived just 35 minutes before closing. Ticket sales close 30 minutes before the tower closing time. The tower was very Impressive given that it was built in the early 1500s. I recommend you go up to the top first because there was a long line to climb the 90+ stairs to the top of the tower. Then as you make your way down you can view each floor as well as the balcony and exterior platform.

Belen Tower is an iconic place to visit when you are in Lisbon. From downtown it is best to go to the marina where you can take a train, I recommend taking it both ways as there isn't much to see in between. The building is beautiful and an excellent place to make photos. I understand that you can also enter the building but I haven't done it personally. Be sure to cross the street to visit and or photograph the building that holds different exhibitions.

It was crowded and hot so we chose to see the outsides and it's amazing. A great monument not to miss in the Lisbon area. There are cafes, public toilets, restaurants plenty of sitting space and a good way to enjoy a few hours or maybe a day. Public transportation access is not far off - 10 minutes walk maybe. There are also parking spaces but it gets crowded easily. Best to visit in evening for a walk around the place

Best place to take photos for Belem Tower-- take the photo from the ocean. I went to the jeronimos monastery so when I came out from the monastery, it's already super long line under the very hot sun in late September. So I jump on a boat( literally any boat is all very good ) and take some best photos.

I had an amazing visit to belem Tower for only 4€ ad I am considered youth. The walk up the old spiral stone staircase was pretty easy and the steps are bigger than other towers. They don't explain much of the history however there are placards on each floor explaining what each floor/room was used for. On the second floor you can go to the balcony and see the view although time is limited. The view from the main terrace and little windows in all directions is very enjoyable. The ground floor with all the historic canons and original windows is a piece of history in understanding the protection they had to use. I would recommend visiting if you have time.

Tejo is one of the icons of the city of Lisbon. When it was built it was completely surrounded by the waters of the river, but over the centuries it has been surrounded by the beach and today it is on dry land. Its construction is due to the wishes of King D. Manuel I to reinforce the defensive line of the Portuguese coast and took place between the years

This monument is so beautiful! It tells a great deal about the Portugese history. However I would not wait in line to go in, instead I would take a boat and see it from the water side which gives you the perfect view and you get the history told by the guides. I can recommend the team of Magic Sail, their boat is in the port next to the Tower, easy access! Enjoy

Avoid at all costs If you are tight on time and in peak season. The queues can get pretty long (literally) and there is no shade. So a hat, sunscreen and a lot of patience is a must. Also, there is a lot of waiting inside the tower, and not much to see. You have been warned!

Just a tourist trap It's nice to have seen it, but didn't live up to our expectations. The ticket office is placed in the park, further away from the tower itself and there is no indication or sign for people to let them know before they line up. The view from the outside of the art/tech museum further was way better. We appreciated better the outside than the inside. Inside there is not much to see. It is not safe as there is no rails as a safeguard. There is no written information about the history of the place. The rooms are empty, and have no items on display that we usually find in similar sites.

This is one of the best kept historical monuments in Lisbon. I didn’t go in because it was getting late but it was nice to view from the outside. The lighting for photos will be better in the evening as it gets closer to sunset. I definitely think you should check it out if you are staying in Lisbon for a few days.

Waited in line for about 30min, not great, not bad either. Realized while on the queue, we were supposed to buy the tickets at the front office and not on the queue, managed to book the tickets online while on the queue which was amazing. The tower from the outside is breathtaking specially when the sun is setting and you can snap some beautiful pictures. Made our way inside, ground floor is pretty much empty, only a few cannons and portholes. First floor in the courtyard the architecture details is what made the tickets worth it. The amount of detail in every single block of the tower was so precise. Inside the tower itself it's pretty much empty, but it gives you an idea how it was built and all that. Overall I recommend visiting Torre de Belem, just don't expect to see much "stuffing" inside the tower.

Very impressive structure that has stood so long protecting the mouth of Lisbon. It was beautiful to walk by the river and take pictures of in the afternoon. The only drawback is how far from the Afalma district it is, prepare to Uber or public transportation as it is a very long walk. Would still highly recommend going to see this impressive piece of architecture.

this doesn't make sense. there was a waiting line for tickets, a line to enter the tower, a line to get to the staircase, a line in mid-staircase and - of course - a line to get downstairs. each line is 15-20 minutes of wait. this small tower - otherwise a pleasant example of military architecture - which is a total of 4 small empty chambers, took us more than 2 hours to visit. I appreciate the patience of the service crew but the tour is ridiculous and waste of 6 EUR. get yourself ice cream, lie down on a lawn nearby and enjoy the view from the outside

A cute little place near the waters. It is a beautiful, romantic place to go. I think entry is about €4 and there’s about 4 floors- the top two floors doesn’t really have a view to the city or water. A great experience to take some pictures but be warned, there are stairs, no lifts

A must visit when in Lisbon! Be sure to get there at opening time to avoid the crowds!! A beautiful tower. It's amazing how it's held up over the course of time and the stories it could tell. Beautiful day, not a lot of people. Nice that there is a large green space to relax and just take it in. Oh, and there is a bathroom near the road.

Beautifully maintained but quite underwhelming. We spent 40 minutes here with the first ticket slot of the day (9:30) so it was pretty private, but there isn't much history explained on the plaques and there are only a few rooms. You're not able to climb to the top, or go to the bottom floor (they are blocked off, I thought climbing the tower was part of the point? You're able to get to the chapel but not the lookout). I'm happy that it wasn't crowded when we went though, and pictures were not bad from the areas that we were allowed to access.

Sat on its own, a beautiful landmark. There is enough open space to ignore tourists and compose photos. I recommend starting here for a day trip, working back towards the city by bike/foot, stopping at the local centre and other galleries and museums en route.

Well worth the visit, plenty to see from the tower on a variety of levels and it provided great views. It does get busy so a tip is to purchase your tickets in advance as visiting spaces are limited. I would suggest to go early otherwise towards closing to reduce the crowd sizes.

Historical place for the age of discovery. It’s a small castle and a nice view. A reminder for people have Lisbon card, you still need to exchange the ticket at counter before queue up at the entrance.

A landmark building that's ornate, and at the same time monumental, this mannerist watchtower is located about half a mile's walk away from the Jeronimos monastery. A pleasant stroll along the waterfront. Needless to say it is a must, when in Lisbon. Prepare for long lines so you may want to come early, though that's no guarantee of getting in without a wait.

No access was allowed to the tower given it's a UNESCO heritage site. this tower gives you the vibe straight out of Game of Throne. One cool way to get a nice picture is to catch it on a low or receding ride, so that you can view the path to the tower or you could stand on the beach to grab a picture. There's also a miniature version of the tower for u to have a good overview of the architecture.

A beautiful old and historical structure. A great place for photos. The river is beautiful and you can see the port and the famous bridge from here. Many stores around the area where you can buy all kinds of souvenirs. You can you buy some foods like egg tarts, breads and other Portuguese delights.

The tower was closed, could take pictures from outside. Was not overwhelmed, let down in fact. Maybe if I was able to go inside, would be a different experience. It’s free with Lisboa pass, if you enter.

Belém Tower (Portuguese: Torre de Belém, pronounced [ˈtoʁ(ɨ) dɨ bɨˈlɐ̃ȷ̃]), officially the Tower of Saint Vincent (Portuguese: Torre de São Vicente) is a 16th-century fortification located in Lisbon that served as a point of embarkation and disembarkation for Portuguese explorers and as a ceremonial gateway to Lisbon. It was built during the height of the Portuguese Renaissance, and is a prominent example of the Portuguese Manueline style, but it also incorporates hints of other architectural styles. The structure was built from lioz limestone and is composed of a bastion and a 30-metre (98.4 ft),four-storey tower.

Beautiful, but not 'amazing'. Definitely visit this site during your stay in Lisbon, but don't expect too much from it. The history behind the tower was the most impressive part. Easily accessable by taking a bike tour or using the metro/train. Walking is also possible, but might take a while from the city centre.

BELEM TOWER in LISBON = Is one of the medieval, historical Landmarks of Lisbon. It is located along the river bank of Togusa River purposely made as a defensive Tower. As seen from a distant this structure which is made from limestone has a perfect, artistic and pleasing sculptural designs. It is listed and preserved as one of Unesco World Heritage Sites. The pictures i made was during our one day tour with an organized sightseeing Tourist Bus around Lisbon City and the surroundings. Once i come back i will surely visit the inside part of this Tower!

Small but beautiful castle by the sea. It has 99 stalls to climb to the top of the Tower, they are very small but as much as they sound a lot you do not understand how you climb them because you can stop on each floor to see the room that exists. It is unfurnished inside you just see the room. Also on the stairs you have to wait for the one who will come from above or below, do not pass two people the sometime, they are very narrow. Of course it has a ticket, but if you have a Lisbon card you can pass freely. At the ticket office maybe you wait more than 20 minutes. Also the employees in the ticket office are rude.

Interesting historical building. Can have a long waiting line. The tickets were sold out in the afternoon - we got there only because we had Lisbon card. Prepare to have waiting lines inside as well - to get to the higher floors of the tower (balcony and higher). The rooms are empty. The building itself is less interesting than the views. I would recommend to visit it at sunset - best for beautiful photos.

The experience of just standing in front of the Tower is an experience in itself. The Tower and the story behind is really interesting, so I totally recommend seeing and reading up about it. The queue for actual entrance within the Tower can be ridiculously long.

Get tickets in advance for opening time if possible otherwise doesn't matter what time you get your ticket for, you will be waiting in line in sun to get in. We bought tickets for 1330 and waiting 30 min in line. But worth the wait. Very beautiful architecture and history inside. Can climb to third floor.

Really cool place. Rich history and fun times. Wish we would’ve gone inside but it was closed on Mondays. There were some cute pop up businesses near the tower but they were quite expensive. Short walk to nearby tourist destinations like tomb of the unknown soldier

Nice building, we only saw it from the outside and it looked pretty good facing the water. Here the queue was also pretty overwhelming especially because the day we were there it was pretty hot! The surrounding park also offered a great opportunity for a walk along the waterfront.

The tower is very charming historical. Would be nice if there more information about the tower. The ushers are not very friendly though although esp those who are located in the stairs. Good historical monument. Another downside more waiting in the sun. Have a sunblock & hydrate. No shade . Around 45 mins queue. Toilet is available at additional cost. If you have Lisboa Card its free.

What to say about the Belém Tower? What an incredible place to visit, as it seems to have been picked out of a postcard. It sits on the Tagus River, on the side of Lisbon opposite the airport, but it is a must-visit destination when in town. The tower is both impressive inside and out, so at least go in once, and make sure you're camera ready because the whole place begs to be photographed, with or without you. I highly recommend it.

Beautiful castle like watch tower! It’s just mind blowing to have the opportunity to see such magnificent structure still standing! It’s a must see while you are here in Lisbon. Make sure you purchase tickets in advance. (Also, keep and eye out for some pickpockets)

One of the must-see locations in this beautiful city. I took the opportunity to dip my hand in the ocean.. Like near other landmarks, there are crowds everywhere. You should visit the tower and walk around.

Torre do Belem a beautiful building build in the beach, when the theres a high tide you have to walk through the bridge. Fortunately tide was low, we were able to walk building and get beautiful pictures. This architectural castle is very beautiful and detailed.

This little castle, as I call it, is really cool and worth the visit. My first visit was during the week, there was no line but when I return on the weekend a year later they stopped selling tickets after lunch due to the demand to enter. The line was huge. Tickets are sold from a both (small building) in the garden, about 100m away. If you want great photos with nearly no one around consider going at dawn.

Great area, amazing building and stunning views. Not much not to like. Certainly recommend going on a day with nice weather as there's lots to see nearby. We'd recommend walking along the waterfront as the views and scenery are beautiful. It's also an easy walk to the Monastery. Great gardens and lovely food all within easy walking distance. All in all a must see in an area full of attractions and sites.

Going to Belem tower is quite easy by taking the train then the tram. As it can get crowded, it’s better to get tickets beforehand. Or you can get it in the ticket box at the nearby park. The tower itself is stunning with the background scenery. And even more so in the afternoon.

This is an amazing attraction. Be prepared to stand in line to get into the tower but it’s worth it. The view is stunning from the tower and outside. Take time to absorb the scenery around.

This was a really neat historical site to visit. There wasn't a lot of things to do, other than visit each floor of the tower and take in the view, but the view was great! The visit doesn't include going to the top of the tower, but you can go to the midlevel balcony.

I went here at 10am in November, there was no queue. I bought the ticket online on the same day. No problem at all. The place is beautiful. Suit all types of traveller and family with children. Perhaps it could be 1 or 2 euros less expensive but it is still a reasonable price.

Belem Tower, even when admired from the outside, is a marvel of Portuguese architecture. Its intricate design and strategic location by the Tagus River create a striking silhouette against the skyline. The historical significance adds depth to the experience, making it a worthwhile stop for those appreciating iconic landmarks.

It's a historical monument standing strong against time and tide from the river(sea). The location itself is beautiful with well maintained garden/park. Definitely worth a visit.

Absolutely fantastic attraction, there is about 1 hour waiting to access as only a limited number of visitors at any time. Free with Lisbon Card but need to redeem the ticket at arrival

Great place with good ticket price (8euro) . Great view 🤩 It has 93 steps inside with a very narrow stairs. No handicap access. You should buy ticket online or from ticket office in garden close to the place, not at the entrance of building.
