If you are ethically concerned about the precarious working conditions in Portugal, do not enroll in this school. I had the worst experience here as a teacher. I started in the last week of September. Then, I was invited to teach at the University, and I had to leave PT Connection, as I could not conciliate the schedule. Out of grudge, they never paid me that week of lessons. I tried to contact them thousand times, I even came to the school and they refused to see me or talk to me. Their lawyer was blackmailing for me to remove this comment for them to pay me and they never did. Paid under 10€ per hour after taxes, not a single teacher has a working contract in this school since the pandemic, which allows this abusive situations, specially for young workers. Even worse, they were completely nontransparent with the payments and real value paid. They said I would be informed about some bureaucratic aspects during my first week there, and I never got an email or phone call about it. First they said teachers were paid 12€ per hour, but in fact, is less than 10€ per hour, after taxes. I find this a really shameful attitude from a school like this. This unfortunate situation in Portugal won't easily change, specially for young workers, but the change has to start with your conscious choice to support ethical schools!

A great environment, with a good disposition, with excellent professionals and colleagues and even better students. I love teaching there!

I was a student at Portuguese Connection from June to October 2022. The school was superb during the summer, that is from level A1 to A2. Unfortunately they struggle to fill classes at level B1 and on two occasions they cancelled classes at the last minute. On one occasion I had flown in for two weeks especially to study. On the second occasion I told them that it was not good enough and asked for a full refund. The school has recently lost a number of teachers; they seemingly work without contracts, so can give notice on a Friday and the next week’s classes are cancelled and the school seems to believe that students should just tolerate it, worse still, they fell back on grossly unfair T&Cs: “ f. The school can cancel the classes or change the teacher when it is strictly necessary (due to internal affairs), which means that the expecting ending date of the classes can be changed. The school will deny a refund request in case the student cannot attend some classes due to the postponement of the ending of the course by the school.” Despite repeated appeals they have refused any refund. So I would suggest that you avoid this school if you want to be certain (1) to receive classes you have booked and paid for AND (2) receive a refund if you can’t adjust your schedule to theirs. It’s a real shame because the teachers are brilliant. Other schools in Lisbon do offer guarantees, I suggest you shop around.

I completed an online individual course of Portuguese with the school (54 hours). It was great, the teacher (Andreia) was extremely competent, very good in teaching and I also had so much fun with her, while learning Portuguese. I did 3 hours per week in 2 classes and I found it very good, having 2 classes per week really gives the chance to practice. The only thing I would change: I would have loved to have a complete textbook of the School. I bought one from which many parts of the course were taken, but it would have been great to have a school tailored textbook, also to continue studying independently after the end of the course. I really recommend this school, they are very serious, always available, well prepared for teaching.

Portuguese Connection School is the perfect place that can put you on the right track in a very organized road-map and push you forward incredibly fast on the path of learning the language up to the level you’d have always dreamt of. They simply care about every and each student and you’d feel as if everything in this school is all set for you! I also loved so much their management and found them very professional and super helpful and caring about all the students— and of course the teachers chosen by this school. They are mastering the teaching techniques of the language to foreigners and can put all the building blocks on the right time and rationale. All are ultimately helpful, supportive and very friendly. I would definitely claim that I liked much the way they tailor their courses; very organized with lots of all the needed resources to advance us all in the language. Moreover, the teacher I experienced has always been very keen to help all the students in a very friendly way putting the lessons’ sequence that makes all the sense as we felt the advancement quite rapidly. I would definitely recommend this school to everyone looking to learn the language in an organized but still in a friendly and practical atmosphere. It is simply a unique proposal of excellence in learning and mastering the language!

I did a Portuguese intensive course of 4 weeks. In terms of improvement, I need to say that the interior in some of the class rooms needs a renewal. The same applies for the technical eqipment i.e. for exercises in the field of listening comprehension. It´s painful for the teachers to fight with the technical setup day to day. BUT the essence of this school truly thrives through the dedication and expertise of its teaching staff. The teachers and the support staff are the heartbeat of the institution, shaping an enriching learning environment that fosters growth and success. The teachers have a genuine interest to support and help the students. I did not experience it on that level before. With their neverending patience and tenacity they corrected my mistakes again and again - no matter if I did it for the 20th time. Their way of teaching and treating us students absolutely exceeded my expectations. Thanks to the teachers and my experience with them, I am even thinking of extending my Portugueses studies after the experience of the last month.

I spent four weeks this summer with my daughter taking intensive Portuguese classes. My daughter had taken a great deal of Spanish in high school so was placed in a higher class. We both experienced several different teachers which was beneficial as it gave us exposure to a range of teaching styles. All the teachers were enthusiastic and genuinely interested in our development. At the end of the 4 weeks we both sat the A2 exam and both passed. Given that I missed a week of class and have a difficult time with the listening/speaking of foreign languages this result completely exceeded my expections! A few additional comments: - the staff helped us sign up for the A2 exam (even before we signed up for classes) - the school has a good sense of what is needed to pass the A2 and can set up a course of study (eg personal instruction) to focus on test prep - the other students are from a range of backgrounds and cultures and are generally focused and eager to learn. - overall a very welcoming and supportive community. - the location of the school is in wonderful and vibrant part of the city. Overall I would highly recommend this school! The staff and teachers are wonderful. It was such a great experience that I’ve come back to Lisbon for a week to continue my studies!

The teachers at this language school are really good, and really know their subject well. I've just finished a block of 28 hours of private lessons over 7 (working) days and have learnt loads. The lessons were very well planned. I asked for lessons that were 4 hours long (with a break) - it's not an easy task to plan 4 hours with 1 student every day - but the lessons were productive and engaging for the whole time. The difficulty level of the activities was pitched perfectly and when I had questions on anything the instructor's subject knowledge and passion for the language really shone through. I can't wait to come back and learn more. 💚❤️

I did one week of intensive group class with Portuguese Connection and it has been an excellent experience. The class had just the right balance of exercises, conversation and cultural input. My teacher Rafael and the other staff have been very competent, supportive and super friendly. I can highly recommend that school.

I highy recommend Portuguese Connection as it has good qualified teachers that love what they do and also talk English. Moreover, the school provides notes for each class. There are available online lessons and in two months someone can actually learn basic Portuguese!

I totally recommend to follow Portuguese classes in this institute. The teachers are perfect, the pedagogy is very good. I really recommend them because in addition to their very qualified team, they offer at the institute a friendly and warm atmosphere which makes us feel confortable... In my opinion, the best way for learning any language! 😁

Fantastic experience. I enrolled for a one week beginner group class and also worked with a private tutor in the afternoons. The instructors are amazing and the other students are very engaged. I'm so glad I enrolled in the course. It really gave me the confidence to speak Portuguese.

Did a week of Portuguese Boot Camp with Portuguese Connection in January in Lisbon. Absolutely fantastic!!! Did a week of the morning classes followed by a 2-hour individual session in the afternoon. The teachers are AMAZING. I enjoy language study and do it on my own, but I'll be back to take more week-long blocks again. It raises your skills beyond belief.

I spent four weeks taking classes (group and individual) and learned so much! I spoke some Spanish before, but had never learned Portuguese so was nervous to take lessons. However, everyone was super nice, and the teachers were all fantastic - by the end of my month at school I was in the B2 class because of how quickly my Portuguese improved! All the other students were also always excited to learn so the school environment was fast-paced but you could always be at the level you want. All of the class work and homework was very helpful for learning the language, and I got so much practice reading, writing, listening, and speaking Portuguese. Thanks so much for such an amazing experience!

This is a great language school for European Portuguese. I took my first class in Lisbon prior to Covid and have taken 4 sessions via Zoom since. I live in California and they have a class that is perfect for my schedule. All instructors are excellent and PC has a great method for teaching. I am working toward citizenship and will be taking the CIPLE exam in the fall. I can not say enough about PC! oh... and the price is very reasonable!!

I took 2 weeks of intensive beginner Portuguese at Portuguese Connection, and found the course immensely rewarding and effective. My teacher (Rodrigo) did an excellent job and made it fun to learn; plus, I really liked my group of fellow students. I'd highly recommend Portuguese Connection!

A fantastic language school in Lisbon who helped me prepare for and pass the A2 Portuguese language test. They were great in helping me prepare for everything, and were always highly accommodating, offering lessons in-person and online. I couldn’t recommend them enough.

Easily the best online course in European Portuguese that I've attended. There was a good balance of fluency practice through speaking, together with grammar and vocabulary input. A particularly useful feature of the course were the 'notes' that were made available at the end of each session. These provided a complete, comprehensive record of everything covered in each lesson - the perfect tool for revision and learning. This is a course for committed learners, those who want to make significant progress over a short period of time, and to this end they are required to complete a clearly defined set of relevant activities and exercises between classes. The provision of these assignments does in fact motivate the student to continue studying on a regular basis outside class times. I cannot praise my teacher enough. At all times she was positive, professional, knowledgeable, upbeat, and immensely patient, giving equal attention to all students regardless of their level of competence. With its combination of quality and professionalism this course provides excellent value for money.

I lived in Portugal for awhile and took several weeks of courses at Portuguese Connection and two other schools. I found Portuguese Connection to be the best school by far in terms of instruction quality and non terms of how the school creates a community of learners. They were also much more business like and organized in comparison to my other school experiences. The group instruction was excellent and the teachers focus on each student to balance the differing needs of each student worked well. It’s a hard balancing act to take a group of students with different abilities and work with each one to help all advance throughout the week. I found each teacher did this effectively and managed to keep the whole class advancing while focusing on the unique needs of each person. I learned a lot when I attended my classes here and the different teachers I had employed effective methods for learning. I was really impressed! I found all three schools a challenge to understand if or when I would have class and think this is the nature of this business. A school needs enough students to host a class and the number of students enrolled at your level of instruction on a particular week is hard to know - esp in winter. They did everything possible to ensure we had class and if we didn’t they were quite responsive and flexible to finding solutions when they were unable to host a class at my level. I found the instruction and pedagogy to be excellent and I learned a lot and grew In my language ability. I prefer group instruction to 1-1 tutoring and thought the teachers did an excellent job of helping students learn from each other in a classroom environment. Interestingly to me, I really enjoyed the students at PC. I met some wonderful people in the school - a few I now count as friends. PC cultivates a culture of togetherness and students readily bond w each other. I can’t wait to go back. Lastly, I can’t imagine a better location for the school. It’s a wonderful are to go to each day. No school is perfect. My biggest complaint is that no one can read the names of the classrooms on the doors as evidenced by everyone asking where their classes were. It happened every week and most students complained about not being able to read the script for the door labels. It would be better for teachers and students if you’d get rid of the horrible script format no one can read or simply use numbering rather than the name of figures from history no one can read. It amazed me that given all the students asking “Where is classroom xx?” They’ve never either used different labels that people can read or used a different system. This is a small complaint relative to all the great things that happen at the school. When I return to Lisbon I intend to study here on each visit. It’s a wonderful school and creates a wonderful community of learning. Based on my experience between Portuguese Connection, Berlitz, and Lusa School, Portuguese Connection was head and shoulders above the rest. It is an excellent language school and I learned a lot and gained many wonderful memories. They also employ nice, caring and wonderful teachers and run an efficient, student centered business.

I enjoyed my time at the school . The teachers were very competent , enthusiastic and inventive . They had respect for their students . The lessons were very animated and interesting . The students came from different countries , with the Portuguese language as the common factor of interest. Everybody , teachers , students and staff , were friendly . They made me feel comfortable . Me and my wife are quite surprised about the teaching quality of Portuguese Connection! She did a 8 weeks intensive course and passed the citizenship exam (A2 level needed for nationality application)! Amazing! They also organize very fun activities while you are studying there! She stayed in a very nice host family which helped her to master even more her Portuguese language skills! In summary, perfect experience and goals totally achieved!!

Portuguese Connection is such a wonderful school, I feel very lucky to have found it and gotten to learn from the wonderful teachers there. I did 5 weeks of intensive group and 1:1 classes at Portuguese Connection, and I learned so much, going from close no Portuguese to a B1. I'm grateful to everyone there for helping me get comfortable with Portuguese and being such supportive, genuinely great educators. I'm definitely excited to return for more classes in the new year, and would recommend the school to anyone.

If I could give zero stars I would. I didn't even get a chance to experience this highly reviewed school. I have been in contact with them for over 3 months now and today (the 14th November) I am still waiting for confirmation of a start date for their November course. Either they are so fabulously brilliant they can't be bothered to respond or their customer service is awful. I'm honestly not sure which but I can say I was looking forward to signing up and have been left feeling really disappointed.

I can 100% recommend this school to all. I am so happy I chose this school. I spent 3 weeks doing an A2 portuguese course. I have over 25 years teaching experience and the teachers were excellent. The classes were at the correct level , interesting fun and full of enthusiasm. The atmosphere was so nice. The school has good facilities and they clearly know what they are doing. I wish I could have stayed a few more weeks. Thank you Andreia , Diana and Rafael.

My husband and I took classes taught remotely from Portugal while we here in the US. The experience was terrific. The school staff & our teacher were outstanding. Everything about this school & learning experience was professional, sincere, attentive to & respectful of our particular needs, warm, and friendly. If you are looking to learn the language, this is the place to go. Excellent!

It was a very satisfactory experience and everybody a the school is super helpful and likable. Performance of the teachers was overall excellent. Especially Raffael with his enthusiasm stands out. The combination group/individual lessons worked perfectly for me, as at times the composition of the groups was a bit unfortunate. With sometimes other students hindering the progress. But of course, this can be controlled by the school only to a certain degree, and maybe other students might have thought the same about me. All teachers give handy tips as for life in Lisbon as such, books, restaurants etc.. I enjoyed the park across the street as it was perfect for recreation between classes. Bottomline, I wanted to make as much progress as possible in a month and was ready to roll up the sleeves. The teachers satisfied my needs perfectly. They adapted to my approach and were ready to push me. I highly recommend Portuguese Connection language school!

I can fully recommend the school and both the individual lessons and the intensive group course. All teachers and staff were very friendly, professional, and well-prepared. In the group course, the teacher was able to perfectly adapt the program to our different backgrounds and needs. The individual classes allowed me to improve a lot and ask all the questions I had. It was evident that both Portuguese Connection designed the best format for my needs and aims.

When in Lisbon, do as the Lisboetas do. Imbibe the food, sights, and history of this ancient port city. And greet people warmly, as they do you, with "Bom dĂa" or "Boa tarde." Then crack open your workbook and meditate on the mystery and beauty of their language. I have loved every day of these five months in Portugal, thanks in large part to The Portuguese Connection, where I learned enough vernacular to move about and meet people. And I've come to love the literature of this land. Joana, Andreia, and my esteemed professor Diogo are part of a highly trained and professional team of pedagogues at TPC. I'm immensely grateful to them for patiently helping me know Portugal, one verb tense at a time.

My experience in this school was horrible. First of all I had problems with my schedule, so I asked IN ADVANCE before classes even started to let me change the group. They said they can’t help me. When the situation became worse I couldn’t continue attend this school I explained everything very politely asked to return money the rest of classes. They said that they ‘very serious organisation, it’s like asking university a refund’. Well, unfortunately this school have nothing in common with serious educational organisation and here’s why: 1. Lack of interaction methods. Very bad explanation. I asked about this methods in advance and the manager told me that they very modern school. My teacher was Márcia and the only interaction that we had it’s when one reads text as student A another as student B or their own sentences. This is ridiculous… The teacher also explained very poorly, she looked like she wasn’t interested in the process at all or was tired all the time. We spent most of our time doing tasks from a black and white print papers and checked the answers from another page. This is not modern education! 2. If you name yourself as ‘serious organisation’ like university, so you won’t let student from year 5 to study with students year 1. We had students who fluently spoke Portuguese, but our group was beginner 0 level. Of course that influenced a lot of the process. The teacher most of the time spoke with those who understand her and looked like others doesn’t need any explanation. Unfortunately if you’ll go to this school be ready that they are not flexible, they won’t help if you need this and educational process will be useless or maybe find another teacher.

The facts described here are true and I have proof of everything I mention. I started teaching in PT Connection in September 2022 and had to leave only one week after. They did not accept my resignation on good terms, even without any legal binding to them. They were very resentful and said they would have to cancel the lessons as they had no one to replace me. Out of grudge, they never paid me that week of lessons. I tried to contact them thousand times, I even came to the school and they refused to see me or talk to me. Their lawyer was blackmailing for me for months to remove this comment for them to pay me and they never did. Me and my wife did a Portuguese intensive course at Portuguese Connection and we couldn’t be happier with the results! We started from the scratch and in just 7 weeks we became quite fluent in this amazing language (we completed the A1 + A2 + part of the B1 level)! Their teaching quality is superb, their cultural activities very nice and the host family great (the best people in the world)! Can we give 7 stars ⭐ ? Oh, and now we are back to our country and we will continue with them online!
