I would say in a few words that it is one of the best kept secrets in the capital. Location of various events, exhibitions and conferences throughout the year. From the Museum to the Library, we find several collections of paintings, books, cartographies, furniture and other objects of historical, scientific and cultural interest, from the most common that were part of everyday life at that time, to the most iconic, such as unique objects of Art that unite all the countries that were part of the Portuguese Colonial Empire. The Restaurant has a pleasant and welcoming layout and the menu and final price are balanced. There are some common rest areas and Wi-Fi is free for visitors, although the signal is sometimes weak and the connection becomes slow. The staff in general was welcoming and friendly, and I cannot forget Mr. Cláudio who was at the ticket office that day, who, in addition to being helpful, I valued his proactive and professional attitude of excellence, which added even more curiosity, with the sharing of some highly relevant historical knowledge.

This is a beautiful small museum focusing on Portugal’s history of the discovery of other countries. There are exhibits including Portuguese-Indian furniture, two incredibly detailed and beautiful globes and the historic Portuguese hall, among others. If you love maps, you’ll fall in love with the globes :) The entrance fee is 5€, 2.5€ for students and 2€ for the elderly. Photography without flash is allowed. I got a 15 minute long personal tour in English included in the entrance fee. All staff members were extremely friendly.

Very nice museum, the exhibition is kinda small and it lacks English information (and even Portuguese in ones) but the staff was very friendly and guided me all over the different halls, would suggest to visit if you like history or geography.

Great exhibition on the history of Portuguese navigation. Many interesting collection of antiques, maps, globes and also books. Some rooms are being renovated, but the museum and the library are very cool. Staffs are so kind and helpful. Entrance fee is only 5euro with 50% discount for students.

One of my favourite places in Lisbon. It is full of historical artefacts from the various Portuguese voyages around the world, specifically Asia and Africa. I definitely recommend visiting if you're interested in the history of the Portuguese age of exploration.

There's a small library on the 1st floor. It's open to everyone free of charge. You just just have to leave your bag (though I took my laptop with me) downstairs. I spent some time working from that library on my laptop. The WiFi was semi good, but if you sit closer to the reception desk it works better.

If I had 10 stars I would give them. This museum is a small jewel in the center of Lisbon. Extraordinary exhibits from China, Africa, India. The staff is INCREDIBLE: friendly, polite, helpful, thank you for the explanations and the magical map!

Really interesting small museum where it's possible to see not just items from other countries but held ideas about those places, at the time

👍👍 Beautiful place. It's such a pleasure to be here in any season in full sun or under the moon. The Belem tower is awesome ! This fortress in the middle of the Tagus has been the starting point for the navigators who set out to discover the trade routes. The expansive spirit is still present here. En...
