(Translated by Google) "... It was on December 7, 2016 the date of the inauguration of the Historical Archive at Casa Sommer. Casa Sommer is one of the most well-known buildings in Cascais and is one of the most representative elements of the neoclassical architecture of the Municipality. Built at the end of the century. XIX by Henrique Oliveira de Sommer, son of a German soldier, Heirinch Franz Ludwig von Sommer who came to Cascais in 1892 to trade iron and steel. The house was in the family by succession (Champalimaud, Champalimaud Jardim, Ribeiro Teles) until the 1980s. XX and after long years of abandonment and difficult negotiations with the previous owners, the Chamber managed to acquire it in 2013 and regenerate it, with project of the Arqª to lodge the memories of Cascais from 1387. Casa Sommer was thus re-inaugurated, this time as Historical Archive of the Municipality of Cascais in 2016dez07, by the President of the Republic Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa and the Mayor Carlos Carreiras. The property was classified as Property of Municipal Interest in 2005. ... " in #historiasdahistoriadecascais (Original) “... A small building dedicated to the cultural, archaeological, and historical aspect of Cascais. It presents the famous figures in the history of Cascais, a brief summary of the events in political development of the city and also the map of the city with a comparison to last decades to show how it evolved. It is interesting to visit this place to have a better understanding of the history of Cascais. Opening hours: Monday to Friday 9:00-17:00. Entrance is free.

A black and white photo tour of historical Cascais. It’s away from the bustling historical center of Cascais. Show the work of a famous photographer who helped popularize Cascais. The building is understated but stunning. Was a quiet day when I visited which was perfect. Just lingered there for an hour taking in the old photographs. Is worth a visit.
