This was my favorite place in the Sintra area. I like Pena, but for some reason, this was the best. Beautiful status, park, gardens. There are not many people, and no waiting line to get there. It's outside of the Sintra. We used Uber to get there.

If you’re visiting Lisbon in Portugal, the Palace in the small town of Queluz is worth a visit. The palace boasts beautiful kept rooms, a tremendous ballroom, and the best part of all, beautifully kept gardens. It’s like a scene out of a movie! Plenty of room for crowds, even though their were none on the day we went. Great way to learn about one of Portugal’s monarchy’s and it’s history. Audio guides are available for your mobile also in various languages!

Amazing. We only went round the gardens, but I was totally taken aback at what seems to be a hidden gem. Almost no one else was there, and the gardens had a wonderfully natural feel (although formal in design). The tiles along the stream were truly astounding, and I’d imagine unique. I’ve certainly never seen anything quite like them. If you have a chance just to visit the gardens then try. It’s an inexpensive way to enjoy a lazy afternoon wandering round a bit of an oasis.

Highly recommended! A lot of history of the Portuguese monarchy. The palace is very well preserved. The gardens are very beautiful (you will need some time to walk around them). There is also a nice coffee shop inside for a quick snack or coffee.

It is so beautiful, luxurious and well preserved. Each room is interesting and unique, I was truly impressed by it’s beauty. The ticket is 10 euro and includes the palace plus gardens. It’s easy to arrive via train, but it’s a quick Uber ride from Lisbon, perfect for groups.

(Translated by Google) The Royal Palace in Kelus is a fascinating example of superior Rococo architecture. I couldn't even imagine seeing what I saw. Since it is located near Lisbon, I recommend that you include it in the schedule of attractions that should inevitably be seen when you are in Lisbon. Unfortunately, at the time when I was visiting the palace, the Hanging Gardens and the Gardens of Malta were in the restoration phase, which somewhat diminished the experience of the palace itself, because I believe that with the landscaped gardens, the palace is even more fascinating.

The palace and gardens are huge! Plan to spend many hours, first touring the palace and its dozens of reasonably-well-curated rooms; then the gardens and horse stables will take another few hours. The restaurant, entered from the outside only, has a lovely terrace and great service with interesting menu and gourmet prices.

Stunning national palace with original features, some of the state rooms are beautiful. We had the place to ourselves on a Tuesday. It’s a bit off the beaten track but well worth the trek - you could easily spend an afternoon enjoying the gardens too.

Magnificent, well kept palace that somehow still seems "sized for humans". Lots of information to be found from the info tablets or one can just enjoy looking at the beautiful furniture and ceilings. Long, straight corridors where one can imagine the queens and kings walking, entertaining and living. There is also a tiled canal and large gardens which unfortunately I didn't get to really enjoy as it was pouring out.

A portuguese jewel! I was not expecting it. The last time i was there it was very damaged. Now almost everything was restored. It had almost no tourists and it's an outstanding place to visit, mixing the palace and its beautiful gardens! A place to go!

Amazing palace with gorgeous gardens. A real hidden gem. Was surprising to see only few people there comparing to crowds in palaces in nearby Sintra. Should be absolutely on every tourist itinerary while in Lisbon

This is a great palace to tour as a group, it's not usually busy and the grounds are absolutely beautiful. There's also a cafe and gift shop with a small selection of goods. The palace itself is filled with historically accurate rooms, with beautiful paintings and furniture. As you walk through the rooms it's great to learn about the lives of the former inhabitants, and their very entangled familial relationships. I recommend a stroll through the neatly kept gardens.

Absolutely wonderful. Not too far from Lisbon, it’s easy to make it a half-day trip. Super quiet, we were basically the only ones there... on a Saturday! Yes, the place is not as grand as Versailles, but that’s not really the point. They seem to have an extensive restauration plan in place, and it is actually interesting to see the whole process unfold. Some places are pristine, some sections are under renovation, and others seem to need some care, but everywhere is beautiful. Don’t miss the vegetable garden tucked in a corner. The pineapple hot houses are of interest. Can’t wait to go back and see the renovated waterfall in operation.

Stunning palace in Queluz. The timeline of the kings who had lived there almost transported me back in time. The palace is very preserved and the gardens….Instagram ready! very well maintained. It’s a must visit if you are in the area and love old places!

It was a nice quiet visit. Gardens are very nice and clean. A perfect place for a picnic. You can visit only the garden or both the palace and the garden. Obviously the garden only is cheaper.

The residence of royal family in second half of the 18th century, Queluz palace is the manifestation of an exquisite design and style of architecture. It's one of the latest rococo style designs in Europe of that time and the palace was used mainly as summer retreat for royal family. It looks similar to Versailles both in outdoor facad and indoor design in addition to the glorious gardens but in much similar scale and more extravagant manner. There are numerous rooms inside the palace like music room, ball room, hall of ambassadors, the chapel, and private rooms of royal family, all filled with amazing paintings and artifacts. It's highly recommended to visit this palace if you love art and history and happen to be in lisbon. The entrance is 10 euros.

The Queluz National Palace is a very well preserved building with a lot of history. There are many rooms and the walking tour is a decent amount of time. Our tour guide gave us a lot of interesting facts and stories that were not on the plaques. I really enjoyed the antique furniture and the original chandeliers.

There were very few tourists when we visited, which is super nice after crowded Sintra. We were able to breathe in the sheer magnificence of the palace and garden. Somehow this wasn't on Rick Steve's guide, but I think it's definitely worth the visit. One of the finest palaces in Portugal.

An unexpectedly wonderful place to visit. Huge buildings, tons of art and antiques, but I liked the gardens best. Fascinating, well kept (with no doubt limited resources) and quirky. The staff in the cafe were super-nice and friendly, as were a couple of the gardeners that we got talking to. Recommended.

Unfortunately the fountains were all empty, so in normal times it must be even more spectacular. Very nice is the small botanical garden at the bottom of the park where, in the right period, you can admire the flowers of the pineapple plants! The Palace and gardens of Queluz are amazing and a must see if in Lisbon. The throne room alone is worth the visit. When you see the pictures of how it was before they started the renovations you can appreciate just how much work has been undertaken. Lots of information in English and lots of parking and a modern coffee shop which extended out onto the Palace terrace. We went on a Sunday afternoon in October and spent about 4 hours there. As i say, a must see and located (by car) about 40 minutes away from Lisbon.

Beautiful palace. I enjoyed the grounds more than the interiors. One of the last great Rococo buildings to be designed in Europe. Doesn’t that just roll of the tongue… say it again.. Rococo! I’m sure you would agree this palace would be adequate for a mid summer retreat. It was build for Dom Pedro of Braganza who later become husband to his own niece, Queen Maria I. Queen Maria stayed here during her descent into madness after the death of Dom Pedro in 1786. In 1908 it became property of the state and was extensively restored after a devastating fire, nowadays it continues to be a popular tourist attraction. Being situated halfway between Lisbon and Sintra National Palace, makes this palace a great stop on the way back to Lisbon.

(Translated by Google) Beautiful place. Living history. The garden is not even mentioned, because it is very well maintained and beautiful. I visited with my wife and two children. I only classify it by one star because the employees are overly concerned about seeing us remove our masks during the photo shoot, even though there were no other visitors in the wide environment! Security guards were called in to scold us. It was not at all comfortable to visit the other environments (even with the audiovisual resources turned off and unavailable due to the covid) with an observer to follow us with his loud radio. We feel like we're being driven out of the place. I do not recommend visitation at this abnormal time of covid. There are other museums that give you the freedom and comfort that every tourist should have. In my contributions to Maps, I don't remember classifying an attraction so negatively. I wish the local administration to reconsider the approach to the visitor, as in the case of other more friendly places. Detail: Some employees and the security guards who approached us inside the museum did not wear masks when I identified them at the entrance of the establishment;) (Original) Belo lugar.

Queluz National Palace - A great Palace in Rococo architecture of the 18th century. The Palace itself experienced unlucky histories due to fire destruction before it extensively restored and presently opens to the public as a major tourist attraction. There are lots of beautiful historical remains that can be seen not only inside the Palace but also outside of the surrounding like the beautiful garden with the fountain of Neptune and the beautiful Channel of the Tiles. Really a must to see in Sintra, Portugal.

(Translated by Google) I had the opportunity to visit it a couple of years ago ... and I would go back. The interior is spectacular with vast and luxurious halls decorated with paintings, tapestries, frescoes and furnished with precious furniture and large mirrors. At the time it was possible to photograph but not film all the interiors with the exception of the private chapel which served as a church. Equally spectacular is the garden embellished with fountains and water features adorned with the famous ceramic tiles called azulejo for the predominant bluish color with which they were painted. Both the interior of the building and the external walkways are well maintained and neatly preserved.

(Translated by Google) I expected better. Very empty and many pieces on display are not cataloged with information. Video information panels are turned off. One of the dining tables has the cutlery changed, which shows little care. Description of the exposed pieces confused and extensive, which forces the long stay in front of the panel, accumulating many people around it. Low maintenance gardens. Few watchmen. I find the entrance expensive, for those exposed to visitors. (Original) Esperava melhor.

Extremely nice looking palace, with a massive garden / park area. A hidden gem and not as crowded as Sintra Pena Palace. Definitely worth a visit.

An enormous and really astonishing place to visit, full of history and interesting artworks. The entrance ticket (which you can buy with a discount on the Palace website) gives you access to the whole palace and it’s gigantic gardens, with plenty of peculiar things to see and learn about. Absolutely recommend to visit this one if you’re staying in Lisbon! P.s. consider it will take a minimum of two hours to visit the whole place, even more if you want to check on details etc.. and don’t forget a cap to cover your head from the sun 😉

Beautiful palace , the interior is beautiful. The gardens really beautiful as well. The entrance was around 10 euro and took us around 1 hour tour. The place was almost empty so was no lines.

This has some interesting facts about the royal family, which our tour guide was incredibly knowledgeable about the palace's history and the royal family. It has beautifully decorated tiled walls, furniture, chandeliers, paintings of certain Charlotte, Pete, the King, Queen, members of the royal family. The garden has fountains, and a river in front of the Queluz National Palace. On the other side of the river, there is guest house which Is beautifully decorated with tile.

Really interesting palace whose restoration was funded by the very friendly people of Portugal. This is a nice peak into Portugal’s past when it was a world super power. The palace is small by European standards, but that is nice because it is very walkable. Excellent examples of the styles of the time (heavy French influence). The grounds and gardens are gorgeous and well maintained. You can enjoy a fairly thorough tour in about two hours. Restaurants and bars are nearby.

Amazing historical palace with beautiful gardens. I highly recommend the 99¢ audio tour, which can be listened to via headphones or on your phones speaker at a low volume. Plan to spend about an hour here between the palace and the gardens. I'd give 6 stars if it would let me

A hidden treasure that must be visited! The interior is simply breathtaking! The city is busy with restorations to restore this palace even more. The gardens still need a bit of work and unfortunately not all fountains are working, I guess due to water scarcity which is understandable. It is still amazing to visit!

Very beautiful palace and gardens and best of all, there was barely anyone there. I went to almost all of Lisbon’s must see list but this one is definitely towards the top. Would recommend for a peaceful and beautiful day out.

The Queluz National Palace is a beautiful 18th-century palace located just outside Lisbon in the town of Queluz. Often referred to as the "Portuguese Versailles," the palace is a stunning example of Rococo architecture and features ornate facades, beautiful gardens, and opulent interiors. Visitors can explore the palace's grand reception rooms, which are filled with exquisite artwork, antique furniture, and beautiful frescoes. The palace also features a beautiful ballroom and a stunning throne room, which were used for important royal events and ceremonies. The palace's gardens are also a must-see, featuring beautiful fountains, ornate statues, and peaceful walkways. You could make half a day trip from Lisbon. During visit Palace it was not busy and everything was accessible. 7-9 min walk from train station.

I'm delighted that we chose to explore the stunning palace in Sintra. Often referred to as the "Versailles of Portugal," the Royal Palace of Queluz, also known as the National Palace of Queluz, originates from the 18th century. This palace was constructed as a summer getaway for Don Pedro de Bragança, who would later become King Pedro III. It stands as one of the final grand structures in the Rococo style built across Europe. I was truly captivated by the architecture, the art, and the exquisite gardens surrounding it. It's definitely a must-visit while in Sintra.

We went with a guided tour and were fascinated with the tour guide's explanation about different parts of the palace and some historical events that took place there. We walked around the palace, viewed different rooms, and wandered around the garden. The rooms in the palace still have the original furniture, bedding, dining wares, and cutleries used from few centuries ago. A highly recommended place to visit.

I’m more interested with the exterior of the palace than the contents in the palace. Just beautiful architecture! I visited in Late June and it’s not crowded here.
