Visited international dolls museum with family today.. Both my daughters liked it.. There are thousands of dolls from all over the world.. Separate section for each country. It really shows the cultural and how people look like else well as the local believes. It will take at least 1 hour to see all.. It has a separate section for each state of India too.. Kids will surely like it.. Even good for parents to) to understand.. I found this place quite informative. Metro station is just out side the gate. Tickets are quite reasonable.. 30 for adults and 13 for kids I recommend this as one short visit with family.

I first visited this museum in 1977, then when in 1989 when I was posted to Delhi, then in 2007 when I left Delhi, by that time it had lost its shee... & when I visited in March 2023, it was a total disappointment. The staff seem to have lost their patience with children, the displays are not well illuminated and it's takes an effort to read the descriptions written about the origins of the exhibits and what they represent. I have no idea if photography was allowed earlier, but I guess the present set-up is better not photographed, so photography is thankfully banned. There used to be copies of Shankar's Weekly available to read, now it is just a drab tour, specially for those who once enjoyed visiting here, irrespective of age.

Really awesome place where you can feel your childhood. Best place to visit with children and also good place for every age group. There are 6500 dolls are there in this museum from different countries. Well mentioned and clean place. Dolls are so awesome and collection is superb. 30 rs is the ticket cost for adult and 13 rs for children. I enjoyed a lot and I will again visit this place. There is only problem is, that is parking. No proper car parking is available. You just need to park you cars beside a gali where no space for parking. You need to park on side road of that building. That is MCD parking and you need to pay for that but still there is no proper place. You can will be on road. You can easily reach there through Metro. It's situation in ITO metro station. When you exit from metro station you can clearly see the entrance of Doll museum.

This is a small museum, but contains over 7000 dolls. It won't take more than an hour. You might think that kids would enjoy the place, but they might not enjoy the place. You cannot touch the dolls, photography is prohibited. You will love the Peru, France, Spain and Italy's tableau the most. Indian section is also quite beautiful.

This is an amazing place for both kids and adults, in there they have a lot of dolls from different different countries made at different time, you can see the absolute art of doll making and it has been maintained equally by the museum. The ticket price for Adult is 40 Rs which you can easily buy from the counter. Nearest metro station is ITO which is just outside the gate of doll museum, don't check Google the information is not updated there it shows Mandi house. Overall it's a great place to visit.

Nice place to visit with family. I went there today with my daughter and she enjoyed alot. You will find different dolls from each countries. Starting from Australia NZ and ending with India . Ticket is also very cheap 30 for adult and 11 for Child. Only issue is there no canteen, as it's a small place. Only option is eatables available outside. As pictures suggest nearest metro station is Ito , exit from gate no.4 . Make sure you don't get caught while clicking pics and videos.

The International Dolls Museum is a large collection of dolls in Delhi, India. It was set up by K. Shankar Pillai, a political cartoonist. Housed in the Children's Book Trust building on Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, accessed through a separate entrance, a winding staircase, leading up to a foyer. The museum has a floor area of 5,184.5 sq ft (481.66 m2) and occupies a portion of the first floor. K. Shankar Pillai (1902–1989), noted cartoonist, set up Children's Book Trust, a pioneering work in the field of children's literature in India, in 1957. Later, a gift of a doll from a Hungarian diplomat gave Shankar the idea of collecting dolls from countries he visited. He often held exhibitions for poor children, and at one exhibition in Delhi, among the hundreds of visitors were the then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru accompanied by his daughter Indira Gandhi. Indira was inspired and together with Shankar set up an international museum for dolls, eventually materializing on 30 November 1965. The principal collection consists of gifts from Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, and many subsequent Prime Ministers, including Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi. Also several embassies and diplomatic missions in Delhi gifted dolls to the museum. Visiting dignitaries like Madame Tito, Queen Frederika of Greece, the Queen of Thailand, the sister of Shah of Iran, the wives of Presidents of Mexico and Indonesia and many others gifted dolls representing their respective nations Dolls Museum is one of the most renowned museums in New Delhi which has a huge collections of dolls from across the globe. The renowned political cartoonist, K. Shankar Pillai (1902–1989) founded this museum in 1965 with thousand dolls. The museum covers an area of 5,184.5 square feet (481.66 m2). The former President of India, Dr. S. Radhakrishnan inaugurated the Dolls Museum and at the inauguration time the number of dolls was only 500. In between 1965 and in 1987, the number of dolls has risen to 5,000, a vast majority coming as gifts. Shankar Pillai was honoured with the Padma Vibhushan, India's second highest civilian award by Government of India in 1976. Today the volume has increased to 6,500 exhibits from almost 85 countries, adding to its international character. The museum is located in the Children's Book Trust building on Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, New Delhi near Ram Charan Agrawal Chowk. It occupies a floor area of 5,184.5 square feet (481.66 m2) on the first floor. A separate entrance with a winding staircase leads up to a foyer. Inside, the Museum is divided into two equal halves. The two sections have over 160 glass cases, 1,000 ft long (300 m), mounted on the walls. One section has exhibits from Europe, the U.S., Australia, New Zealand, Common Wealth of Independent States and the other from Asian countries, the Middle East, Latin America, Africa and India. The collections of dolls are classified into two parts. One part consists of the dolls collected from western countries such as UK, USA, Australia, New Zealand, Commonwealth of Independent States and the other section consists of dolls collected from other Asian, Latin American and African countries including India.

Dolls from various different places are shown in the display. They reflect their core culture and traditions. Different art work is shown showcased through the dolls. It is pretty nice place to get the idea of different cultures existing around the globe. Few interesting dolls could be found for those who have interest in dolls or cultures.

It is one of its kind and worth to watch once. It has collection of dolls from different countries and has marvellous collection. Along with different dolls it also exhibits their dressing rituals and variations across year for some places. For India there is a separate section showcasing all the different states. Also it’s entry is at the exit of ITO metro station gate no.4 and no specific parking. Though you can park outside on the road with some local vendors. It is closed on Monday and have a fee of 25/- per adult and 10/- per kid. Refer to the photos please.

(Translated by Google) The Shankar Museum is located in Delhi, India. It was founded by K. Shankar Pilaj, a cartoonist who is considered an Indian pioneer in the field. At one point in his career, he turned to children and the creativity that addresses them, so he founded the publishing house "Children's Book Trust", which specializes in children's editions and a toy museum. The idea to found this museum came to him when he received a traditional doll as a gift from a Hungarian diplomat. Today, the museum houses toys from all over the world with short explanations. The collection of toys is divided into those from Europe, America, Australia, New Zealand, Asian countries, Africa, and of course, India.

Museum was clean but the glass needed cleaning. The glasses were not clear where all the dolls were kept. Hardly much written about the doll’s history or anything. If you are accompanying someone to passport centre then it’s a good time killer. The only thing I liked was dasavatar of Vishnu. Honestly I found it bit creepy as I was all by myself there. 😂 not many photos to share as the photos aren’t allowed. I have one from the entry point where it’s allowed.

Doll Museum is a good peaceful place to take your kids on a weekend for 1 hour outing. The dolls are really amazing and tells Lot about the culture of the native country. However the museum needs to light up the place put in some life. Make it kids friendly and engaging. They can start with more lights in the premises.

Parking was easy on the opposite side of road. We parked and went inside. Ticket cost was 30rs for adults and 15rs for kids (below 12 years). Good for kids or who have interest in dolls, you can see many dolls of different countries and some are very old as well. Inside it is AC, so can be visited anytime of the day. So, children's can see dolls from each country and each state of India. They maintained properly and cleanly. Some of them are seems old but I guess they replace or maintain them regurly. Museum was really intelligently put together. To enrich the experience we weren't allowed to capture the dolls. Maybe it was to preserve its mysteriousness too. The dolls were also exhibited beautifully. What could've been better the organization of the dolls by countries. Some dolls were damaged and left carelessly. There should have been more sitting facility within the museum( there was one in the exhibition area and a few just outside the exhibition area). It was a nice experience.

The museum appears to be small at one glance but once you start to observe each dolls carefully it will take hours to visit the whole museum. I recommend you to pay a visit if you land on delhi. I bet you will get ideas about how the people leave around the world, how do people dress around the world, what are the festivals celebrated by people around the world, you will get to see the cultures of different states of india, and way of marriage ceremony of different places of the world and the bride groom of different places. in short you will earn a lots of experience and knowledge.

A must visit museum for lovers of art, culture, history and of course dolls... Although first i thought it will be a great place for my 4 years old daughter but these dolls are not for soo young children. She found it boring. Yes but it is really knowledgeable place for children of 7-8 years or above as they can understand about the culture and attire of the dolls.

Located right next to the ITO metro station and PSK Herald House. This museum has a huge collection of dolls from all over the world and by all over the world I literally mean from all over the world. For those who are not a fan of dolls, the costumes give us a ballpark on the traditions and customs of each country in the Early Modern Period. The ticket price is ₹30 and photography is prohibited. You can easily spend around 1/2 to 2 hours.

Nice place to visit with children.place is very clean . Photography is prohibited so will not able to click photos there. they have a wide collection of dolls there .But if you are thinking that you will find dolls made of waste material or from other like i think then you will be disappointed.like when i visit it i think i fill get to how dolls in other countries will be made which material they use and how they look but unfortunaley i didn't find nothing like this as they show case dolls countrywise wearing traditional dress and showing there culture for .They have made a separate section for each country. So if love to see dolls wearing different costume in different poses then you should visit it.

  • 5/5 Deepak P. 2 years ago on Google
A great place to visit and spectate dolls, collected and managed from all over the world. Every single doll present here is an art piece in itself, with such intricate details. Though it gets bit tiring to visit the whole museum, but the way the whole tour is designed is commendable. A must go for kids, to know about the world. Be here and proudly say "Humne poori duniya dekhi hai, ek tareeke se kyunki Humne duniya bhar ki dolls dekhi hain"

  • 4/5 Madhvendra Singh C. 2 years ago on Google
Good for children to see a collection of dolls from across the world. However, the museum needs to put more information about dolls, at many sections, dolls are put without any labels. No details about making process, materials used and what's the development now are missing. There should be some tech involvement too, so that specially abled kids can also have access to it.

  • 3/5 Antra P. 2 years ago on Google
The staff at the entrance are prompt and polite. The washroom stalls are small, but clean - which is a relief when you take your child to a public restroom. The stairs are perfect in terms of the height. Thankfully they arent halfbroken, like a lot of other places. The Dolls Museum we all recall from our childhood memories, is not as neat as one remembers. Some of the dolls are disintegrating. I wish more information was available about some of the displays. Or perhaps there were staff members earlier who would act as guides. But during the pandemic that practice has been stopped. However, I understand that there must be some restrictions that are causing this state of affairs. The dolls from Japan truly needed an entire aisle. One gets to appreciate the differences in appearance, features and clothes from all the various parts of the world. This was clearly visible and noticeable even among the displays for all the states of India. Space display and the display of toy trains were the best. Overall, there is scope for change. However, even without that, I'd probably go back, because the displays offer us a small peek into cultures all around the world. No pics allowed. None were taken.

The place has some old time charm. There was very less crowd on Sunday afternoon. Great collection of dolls, though the dolls would have seen better times. A guide on skme context on dolls and their charactwristics would really help.

Kids will love this place for sure. Adults can also enjoy the place if you are keen in understanding the cultures in different eras in different countries. They have dolls from almost all countries around the world from 17th century onwards. Dolls are dressed up in the dressing of those times. My kids loved the dolls from Peru the most.

I don't know how to write this: but doll house stored dolls from all the major continents with their national and indigenous costumes that will give you a glimpse of the beauty of clothes and accessories. However, you might not find some particular countries and tribes in India. I will say that Doll house need to update to other major tribe in India. Overall, I had a very pleasant ☺️ visit and garnered ideas and thought on fashions and wonder of diversity.

Very interesting place. You can get an idea about the dolls culture from different countries. I was very happy to see Ukraine’s traditional doll Motanka among the exhibits. Motanka dolls are one of the oldest symbols of the Ukrainian culture.

Went to the dolls museum. It has a huge collection of dolls but with time they have all become really dirty and unmanaged properly. I think they should add new things and look to the museum. It gives an age old feel , not attractive at all and all you do is go through the glass windows full of dolls from different countries. The kids enjoy to an extent but maybe just one time see. Can become more interesting and beautiful and more engaging for kids.

  • 5/5 Rajesh B. 9 months ago on Google
Amazing collection of Dolls. The dancing beauties are showcased. Beautiful dresses depicting culture of the country has been shown. The dolls have been crafted in such a manner that it looks that they are talking to you. Imagination can do wonders and one can see that here. I will recommend this to all the beautiful children along with their parents.

Beautiful and vast collection of dolls from all over the world and multiple states of India. The museum should provide some details about the customs and rituals of the cultures whose dolls are displayed here. One negative point in the museum is ventilation. The centralized AC system was off and the air quality inside the museum was very poor. I felt a little sick and was having slight difficulty in breathing while I was inside the museum. Had to run through the dolls quickly to be able to come out and get some air. Hopefully the management can fix this one flaw in an otherwise excellent museum.
