It highly needs to upgrade its taste… Went here and ordered North Indian dishes which were just average. Veg cutlets were not properly cooked. Chaap too was average. Masala dosa lacked spicy flavours. Serving time was less and quick. The ambience of the place seemed ok. Overall need an improvement in taste to match out Delhi’s spicy savoury.

I have been visiting Sagar in Defence Colony since I was a kid. The food and service is extremely good. Thanks to the humble owner who stands at the gate welcoming each guest. The place is hygienic as well. Definitely a must visit

Absolutely classic. Visiting after about 30 years. Same clean premises, unfussy service, reasonable prices and sumptuous food. Heartily recommend this place to any one at all. Well done, Sagar Ratna. Jai Hind.

This was the first branch of Sagar Ratna to be opened in New Delhi. It was spread on two floors, sadly the second floor is closed for the last 6 yrs. However, they have taken the shop next door to make up the seating. Service is very very quick. We got our order within 10 mins. Also, the attendants are very observant....were quick to offer to refill sambar, chutney, water etc etc. The hand wash area is slightly inside the kitchen area. The atmosphere and ambience could have been better. Price wise very decent. We ordered dahi vada, filter coffee, paneer masala dosa and rava onion masala dosa. Dahi vada and coffees were too good. The dosas were avg.

This branch is definitely the best . That's why it's always full This branch is a true definition of how places that are always full (always have waiting) should be managed and served The serving is so on point that you'll be surprised that never even once you'll have to call the server they'll be doing everything required before you ask, food served is TOTALLY fresh hot and quick Start your meal with dahi vada and end your meal with traditional filter coffee Simply the best South Indian cuisine in North India

Very good quality South Indian food offered in North India. The seating maybe a bit cramped but one can get very tasty, hygienic and quality South Indian cuisine here. Sagar Ratna has a separate restaurant for South Indian and a seperate restaurant offering Veg North Indian and Chinese cuisine in the same Defence Colony Market.

This is indeed the best place for South indian food 😋 I love everything here especially the Rava Dosa and mini idlis with different spices.. Their service is good but yes no matter whatever time you select to go there, it is always full of people so you have to wait outside for a while, none the less the waiting it worth it for such an authentic food experience, I highly recommend this place...

From college days, this is a comfort zone amongst all the chaos. The mention of sagar gets the juices flowing and you can imagine the aroma and taste of the food. Super efficient, hygienic and consistent. You can never go to Sagar have a bad experience. It is by far the most consistent and tasty south Indian cuisine you can get in delhi. I love the onion rava masala dosa, butter masala dosa, and rasam the most. The best tasting sambhar in delhi is at Sagar !!

I had a sort of heavy breakfast. I visited this place after a gap of over 2 years. The food quality has gone down. It's no more an authentic South Indian taste. From sambhar to aloo masala of dosè nothing tastes like South Indian. Filter coffee was good but not hot enough. Vada was very nice and crisp. Service was good and staff polite and happy to serve.

Everyone has a go to South Indian place. This is mine. The staff are accommodating and always greet you with a smile. The food quality is consistently great. Tables move fast so I've always found a place even though it's busy.

Being a South food lover I must say this place is heaven. It's one of the best places to go for any South Indian dishes. They have a very friendly and welcoming staff and the service is super duper quick. Serve everything fresh and hygienic. Cleanliness is also very good. And you know the best part "they don't give you looks for extra sambar and chutney ;)" Must visit as it's one of my go-to places.

Sagar Ratna Defence colony market is my favourite go to place for regular South Indian fare. My absolute favourite are the vadas which are the best vadas I have tasted anywhere. They have a huge variety and have introduced Idli chaat and chettinad Dosa recently. Haven't tried these because I love the regular stuff. Service is very attentive and high speed. Decor is simple and clean. They are generous with the extras like sambar and 3 types of chutneys and give seconds happily.

Sagar and Sagar Ratna are three small restaurants, two of them adjoining and third one a few shops away. But all of them are favourite with people. It's mainly South Indian vegetarian restaurant but they serve some Chinese and other dishes as well in one of them. Food is good and rates are reasonable too. Seating and decor is very ordinary.

We went to Sagar ratna in defence colony market. Staff was kind and welcoming. It was quite full even on weekday. A must go to place for dosa lovers.

India is a country of so many states with a huge diversity in food options. Delhi is one city where you can get the best tasting food variety from all states. And this original Sagar Ratna in Defence Colony is one place in Delhi where you can get the best of South Indian taste. Believe it... !! I am a hell of a foodie.

Delicious food and quality. Only issue is waiting time is more than 30 minutes to actually seat in the restaurant.😀

  • 4/5 Seema c. 2 years ago on Google
Overall Good. Soothing place for appetite and eyes. Madras Idli.. is not of good taste. Every other food item is more good than average. You can be there for family out food outing or for a get together or for a date too😅.

By far the best dosa I’ve eaten at Delhi. All the side dishes and chutneys are genuinely authentic as well! Special mention for the ghee roast.

The access was not great and the hotel itself is a bit congested. But despite this, the ambience was great and food even better. Was it a bit costly, I don't know but overall a great place to eat out.

  • 5/5 Neera B. 2 years ago on Google
That South Indian aroma of dishes and the taste of South Indian dishes is just out of world. The serving of free sambhar, chutneys and that too by the waiters voluntarily adds relaxing moments to the tasty food. The dishes are served hot and savory. One gets to eat all kinds of dishes and that too without needing to wait for long. Further they provide sanitizer on table if asked. Good and clean eating space.

  • 5/5 Vivek K. 2 years ago on Google
Awesome food especially south Indian with authentic spices and aroma. Food prepared is fresh on order basis only. Must try once when you are in Delhi.
