Simplicity of old times relived amongst these relics. The place is located adjacent to Delhi Zoo. It has a comfortable parking for your vehicle. Entry fee is very nominal. Overall a great place for outing with your family and friends. Ticket price for quila is 30 rs including museum view. . museum doesn't contain a huge collection.. sunset view with those royal wall and photography worth the place..

Purana Qila is as old as its name. It was built by the second Mughal emperor Humayun and Surid Sultan Sher Shah. It is located in Delhi, just near the National Zoo. If you are coming here by metro, then by paying 40 rupees from Udyog Bhawan metro station, you can come to the old fort, on the way you will also get India Gate, this happened two targets with one arrow, let's talk about the issue First of all, what can you see, first of all, you will get to see the big door as soon as you enter the main gate which was built by Humayun, now only about 40% of the part is left, the rest is broken but still it is full of surprises again. You can see the lake, the museum in which 2000 years old things were kept, I was really surprised to see the museum. How can it be that 2000 years ago things have been kept completely safe? It was very cool then you can see Qila-e-Kuhna Hamam which used to be a bathing house. Baoli is really beautiful. there are many more You will get the ticket for 45 rupees, in which you can see three things, the museum lake and the fort. Taking care of cleanliness, you cannot take food items. Because Swachh Bharat Shrestha Bharat if you are tourist must to visit. yha ki looking at its beauty and convenience i give it 5 rating thankyou..

A historical site controlled by Archaeological Survey of India, as per various historical references, it was the Indraprastha built by the Pandavas, later it was turned into a fort by Sher Shah Suri and a mosque was built inside the premise. There's a museum inside it. Tickets are available from counter and through website of ASI. There's not much crowd at the time of visit. It is surrounded by deep water channels(parikhas) around it.

The Purana Qila as the name suggests is the oldest fort in Delhi. It was built by Humayun and later captured by Sher Shah Suri. The vast lawns of the Qila are well maintained and very clean. The spots to see in the complex are the mosque, the hammam, the excavation area and the ASI site museum. Its a great example of early Mughal architecture. The Zoological park is situated right next to the Qila and is also a good place to visit. The nearest metro to the Qila is the Khan market metro station, from which you would need to take an auto to the Qila. Overall definitely recommend visiting the place once.

A very peaceful, beautiful and serene place in Delhi. You can visit this place till 6 pm. The ticket cost varied from 20 to 50 rupees as per the things. Qila, lakes and museum is also the part of this place. Security is good here. The nearest metro station is supreme court metro station. It is located in central Delhi. Its very beautiful place and you must visit this place once in a lifetime. You can have good photography here. You can feel the real side of emperors and of ancient times. This place is saved in my memory because of lovley architecture.

Purani Killa, located in the heart of New Delhi, India, is an exquisite historical marvel that truly reflects the rich heritage of this vibrant country. I recently had the pleasure of visiting this ancient fortress, and the experience left me in awe. Upon entering the premises, I was immediately captivated by the sheer magnificence of the architecture. The beautifully preserved walls and imposing gates transport you back in time, making you feel like a witness to India's glorious past. As you stroll through the site, the grandeur of the fort becomes more evident, with every corner revealing a different story from centuries gone by. One of the highlights of the Purani Killa is the Qila-i-Kuhna Mosque, an impressive structure within the complex. Its intricate design and delicate calligraphy showcase the finesse of Mughal craftsmanship. As I sat inside the mosque, I could feel a sense of tranquility enveloping me, offering a moment of respite from the bustling city outside. The adjacent Sher Mandal, an octagonal tower with a historical significance, was a sight to behold. Standing atop this structure, I was treated to a panoramic view of New Delhi's sprawling landscape, which is a photographer's delight. The lush green gardens within Purani Killa provide a serene ambiance, perfect for spending some quality time with family and friends. It's a great spot for a leisurely picnic or a leisurely stroll amidst nature, away from the cacophony of the city. Moreover, the fort hosts cultural events, light and sound shows, and heritage walks that provide a deeper understanding of India's storied past. These initiatives add a contemporary touch to the ancient ruins, making it an engaging experience for both locals and tourists. The site is well-maintained, and I was pleased to see that efforts were made to preserve the historical integrity of Purani Killa. The presence of informative signboards and knowledgeable guides further enhanced my visit, offering valuable insights into the monument's history. In conclusion, Purani Killa is an absolute must-visit destination for history enthusiasts, architecture admirers, and anyone seeking a connection with India's fascinating past. It is a testament to the country's cultural heritage and serves as a gentle reminder of the significance of preserving our historical landmarks for generations to come. Whether you are a traveler or a local resident, do not miss the opportunity to explore the captivating charm of Purani Killa. It's a place where time stands still, and history comes alive in all its grandeur. Prefer to go with your friends as it became couple attraction now a days.visit in winter or cloudy day bcoz you have to walk all around the killa . Ticket price :25 for Indian Nearest metro :- supreme Court (pragati maidan earlier) Updates:-boat service is not available right now Note: This review is based on my experience as of my visit on 22 July 2023. Please check for any updates or changes in the future

A clean, calm and one of the must visit places of New Delhi. It was the original fort of early Delhi rulers to protect the city before Akbar shifted the power to Red Fort. Mainly affiliated with Sher Shah and Humayun, the fort was naturally moated with water for protection. It houses Sher Shah's tomb, A mosque (said to have been built by Mahama Anga for setting up a Madrassa), Fort Palace, Baoli, a small Gates and two gates (North and South). It have a small parking space but because entry is common to National Zoo, we kept our car in Zoo parking. Boating was closed when we visited. It has a small canteen on premise when we had juice and bread pakoda. Despite being 26th Dec, crowd was much less.

One of the most underrated monument in Delhi. I loved being there. The place is less crowded, have plenty of greenery and beautiful view. Ticket - 50 rupees per person, kids under 14 are free. It also has a good lake, boating is not available now but lake is nice (can be cleaned) Also you can carry chips and water bottle inside the area but lunch boxes are not allowed. Management is good. Place is clean and peaceful.🕊️

Purana Qila is a historical place in Delhi and it's also a good place to visit with friends and family. To visit the entire property it will take minimum of 2 hours and this place is adjacent to Delhi Zoo. You can book tickets online and at the counter as well. There is a good space for parking and washrooms are neat and clean. It closes by 6 PM so plan your trip accordingly.

Old fort not for family visit!! I have visited Purana Quila April 3 2021 but I saw Purana Quila is basically for couples came there to make out the whole environment is getting bad Purana Quila, tickets only for INR Rs 35 included lake side, museum, and fort Drinking water and Toilet facility is available inside the Fort.Purana Quila and National Zoological Park are adjacent to each other. There is a single parking for Purana Quila and National Zoological Park. Parking is inside the premises of National Zoological Park. If you're planning to visit Purana Quila with your family it will be awkward when you See couples making out there openly I suggest if you are thinking to visit must go with friends not with family. If you are thinking to take pictures then you should go it's a very Best place for photography and pre-wedding shoots, because the beauty of monuments, will add more love & purity to the picture. And best thing is when you go in evening on some days they even do a show by projecting light in Purana Quila Which is amazing. Ig@alilove07

There is no outside food allowed strictly, we had to eat all our food outside before entering. Even water bottles were not allowed. The Purana qila is okay, it's not majestic but fine, some old architecture to look at, there is a museum which contains rock carvings from early and the medieval ages, this place has huge greenery, park like environment inside, so couples can spend a lot of time. Overall, a nice peaceful place to spend ur free time if you're around this place.

Purana Qila and Lake is a great place for a leisurely morning walk. Not too many people go here in the mornings and it lets one enjoy the beauty of the place without too many people around. The monuments inside are well-maintained and lawns are manicured. One gets to learn a lot about our history there.

Purana Quila is one of the oldest monuments in Delhi. It is under renovation and excavation right now so that might create a problem in exploring otherwise you'll love it. All the walls have their history. This place will let you feel close to history. You can spend the whole day here if you are wandering well with the museum and the lake beside it. You can take the combined ticket for all three places and end it near the lake. The perfect ending of the day, according to me. Enjoy. Must visit. Eatables are not allowed here and maintain cleanliness. You can find eating stalls outside the monument.

The number of couples getting busy in this place is horrifying. Technically the authorities should be more strict in such areas since it's a monumental place visited by a huge number of children, families, and foreigners. Other than that, the place is beautifully maintained. Personally, I think the history behind is even more fascinating. Great place to take some creative pictures.

Reminiscent of the Delhi sultanate, the old fort was built by Humayun, Sher Shah Suri and it's a huge complex comprising of Talaqi darwaza, Sher mandal, Qila-i-kuhna mosque and several archeological sites. Pop culture also finds its interest in Purana Qila as it is portrayed in numerous Bollywood movies. Also there's a beautiful lake alongside it which is a serene spot to watch the sun go down. Entry is just Rs 50 per head and closes around 6pm. Situated nearby National Zoological park of Delhi its scenic spot that tourists shouldn't miss.

Purana Qila is an amazing place to visit in Delhi. It's nearest metro station is Supreme Court (earlier known by the name of Pragati Maidan). The Fort also has a Museum inside it, which houses relics and antiquities as old as of the pre-historic period, the Mauryan period, and as new as the Mughal period. The fort lies just beside the Zoological Garden of Delhi. Once you're done with the historical stuff, you can go watch some animals too.

Purana Qila, Hindustani for "Old Fort" also formerly called Shergarh & Sher Fort is one of the oldest forts in Delhi, India. The site has been continuously inhabited for 2,500 years and remains dating from the Pre-Mauryan period have been found. The present citadel was begun in the time of Humayun and its construction continued under Sher Shah Suri. The site is often identified with the site of Indraprastha, the capital of the kingdoms of the Pandavas from the Mahabharata. It is located near the expansive Pragati Maidan exhibition ground and is separated from the Dhyanchand Stadium by the Mathura Road, Delhi. This is one of my favorite place in Delhi 🧡🧡 PROUD TO BE INDIAN

A short and enjoyable 30-35 mins drive from Jaipur city. Not much walk and convinent to access from parking. King Madho Singh was living with his 9 wife's and we'll.managed to access queens room. Jaipur city view is nice from height. Don't forget to capture loveable moments. Entry is rs 50 only but you need to pay rs 500 for sheeshmahal and wax museum. Ohh missed to tell about puppet show. about this Palace is grand and beautiful, well maintained, every nook and corner of this palace provides an instagram-able spot for pictures. I was in awe of the Sheesh Mahal, intricate patterns made with thousand little mirrors from Belgium, designed by designers/architects from Iran ( as told by the guide). The super beautiful intricate Patterns on the walls, ceilings, their colours are still maintained !! Each room or mahal inside the palace is scientifically designed.A short and enjoyable 30-35 mins drive from Jaipur city. Not much walk and convinent to access from parking. Purana qila is one of the unique forts in the sense there's no main palace or residential area in the fort. The fort is made up of the walls, green open spaces inside, the qila-i-kuhna mosque and the Sher Mandal. The mosque and the Sher Mandal were both completed by Sher Shah Suri. The mosque is stunning, with the ornate archways. Both Sher Mandal and the mosque can only be seen from the outside. There are excavations going on inside by the ASI in search of indraprastha, although they were covered when we went there. There's also a Kunti Mata mandir and a museum inside. Entry fee is 20rs, and can be booked online. Lake (20rs) and museum entry fees (5rs) are separate. Though I didn't feel the lake or the museum was worth it.

Pretty cool bit of history, was clean so that was great. Could still be maintained better and maybe made more accessible. Still a lovely place to visit. No light shows right now cause of the pandemic. Check later on for if they will have them. And bring an ID so that you can get through the security checkpoints easier cause they’re a lot more of a pain if you don’t have them handy. They kicked us out by 5:30pm so they meant it when they said sundown.

Purana Qila is a beautiful place to hang around except summers. It is just beside the delhi zoo. Purana Qila has a big lake in front of it and the view from the lake is beautiful near dusk. You have to buy separate tickets to enter the lake and the museum. This place is much less crowded than other historical monuments in Delhi. There are a lot of trees and grass to comfort your eyes and a lot of places to explore inside the Qila.

Nothing much to see here than a grand mosque. Most of the campus is filled with couples and lovers, who have made this a place for love making, unfortunately. The whole field is filled with couples cudllong kissing and doing what not. There is an old soldiers open bunker tyoe quarters at the back, from where i heard some erotic noises while recording a video. I flee immediately. It costs 40 rupees to get a ticket through the front door, which is pretty much useless because there is a back door to this place, through which all those 'lovers' enter, i figured. The back door is nothing but the broket back wall, which is at the right side of the grand mosque, whose name i dont remember. But ticket online using ASI website, it will cost you half. Besides the ticket counter man was rude and seemed greedy.

Being the security personnel there do not show any response. That's not good behaviour We are reducing the respect of Delhi & India Outside the Purana Qila there is dirt on the rood. It was great. All historic and a lot to explore. It is the Indraprastha from the times of Mahabharata. Yes, the same city that was built by Pandavas. It has a zoo behind it. This is an amazing place to visit and have fun. Beware of nasty couples 😂. They can be easily found all over the place. Yet the experiment is all good. Watch the pics and you will get an idea about the thrill the place brings in.

Expansive and very well maintained grounds. Fort with ramparts and moat. The mosque is exquisite, a blend of Hindu and Persian architecture. There is a placebo reputedly the place where Humayun had a fall and eventually died. If monuments, forts, architecture, history attracts you, then this place must be added in your list.

It's a sprawling campus with a beautiful baoli, masjid and gardens of Humayun's fortress. (I'll mention further below why I did not give it 5/5.) Keen visitors will notice similarities with the architecture of Humayum's Tomb. I went on a weekday afternoon (closer to sunset) and enjoyed the relatively lesser crowd compared to other heritage sites. The area is quite large and open! I'd advise keeping to the paved paths rather than exploring shady trails through forested areas (nothing nefarious but why take unnecessary uncertainty? + Didn't really find any hidden gem). There are enough photography opportunities but again, tripods are not allowed. This will be checked at the entry gate. Tickets are currently online only and masks are required. There is a moat with boating (though may not be available at the moment). Now, what could be better / things to note: Currently, there is no designated parking. The adjoining zoo parking seems to be closed. You'd have to park either in Sundarnagar Market or at a nearby temple. Both will require a decent walk. One (hidden) option is to park at an unpaved gali off Bhairon Singh marg. This will reduce your walk to 5-7 mins to the entry gate. Secondly, like Lodhi Gardens, you will notice some couples' PDA in sequestered nooks. So just be mindful when exploring. While I wouldn't necessarily recommend this place if you're visiting Delhi with very limited time, this qila is worth exploring if forts and historical architecture fascinates you. Give yourself about 2 hours.

One of the best places to visit if you're in Delhi. The Museum (which is a must visit) contains ruins dating back to 100-200BC, and it's always thrilling to visit! Post pandemic ticket has been digitised, managed better, the entryway has been revamped to make it touch-free aside the scanning of the mobile for ticket, which must improve.

A quiet walk through the ruins of Purana Qila with the wind rustling through the trees and the Painted Storks circling overhead. Sometimes history has to be experienced and not read. The Observation pavilion , the Mosque, the Hamam and the Baoli are the only structures surrounded by battlements and huge gateways. I was surprisedto know the the royalty stayed in large ornate tents.

History lovers might just love this place as it has a small and beautiful archaeological museum. Avoid daytime when sun is right over the head. Lot of couples could be seen exploring history in their own ways. The ruins here, after excavation ,found out is believed to be from the Mauryan dynasty period or so but dont expect too much.

This ancient spot place gives you goosebumps. whenever archaeologists do excavations they stumble upon artifacts dating to 1000 BC era. towering ramparts and rustic walls look so intriguing. place has also got dense vegetation inside, making this place very obscure and mysterious. This fort has nothing much left except the ruins and a big lawn. The best part of this place is the Light and Sound Show named 'Ishq-e-Dilli' which is a must watch one in a life if you are in Delhi

Purana Qila, situated in the heart of Delhi, stands as a true testament to India's rich historical legacy. Often overshadowed by its more famous counterparts like the Red Fort and Qutub Minar, Purana Qila is a hidden gem that offers a harmonious blend of history and modern convenience. One of the standout features of Purana Qila is its impeccable management. Unlike some historical sites that struggle to maintain their allure amidst the bustling urban landscape, Purana Qila has managed to strike a balance between preserving its historical significance and catering to the needs of contemporary visitors. The availability of proper parking facilities is a notable advantage, making the journey to the site hassle-free for visitors. Beyond the convenience of parking, the presence of well-maintained eating areas adds a touch of comfort to the exploration of this ancient marvel. Whether you're a history enthusiast or a casual traveler, taking a break to savor local delicacies while soaking in the atmosphere is an experience to cherish. The dedication to preserving history extends to the on-site museum, which serves as a treasure trove of knowledge for those eager to delve deeper into the stories of the past. The curated collection of artifacts and exhibits does an excellent job of providing context and insight into the various eras that Purana Qila has witnessed. This museum is a must-visit for anyone seeking a comprehensive understanding of the site's historical significance. One cannot help but be impressed by the cleanliness that pervades the entire area. The authorities have taken commendable measures to ensure that the site remains clean and litter-free, enhancing the overall experience for visitors. The serene ambiance, coupled with the well-manicured gardens, provides a serene setting that transports you back in time, offering a glimpse into the lives of those who once inhabited this space. In summary, Purana Qila is a hidden treasure that deserves more recognition in the pantheon of Delhi's historical sites. With its remarkable management, including convenient parking, dining options, an informative museum, and a commitment to cleanliness, it offers an unparalleled experience. Whether you're a history aficionado or a casual tourist, Purana Qila's ability to seamlessly blend history with modern amenities makes it a must-visit destination that won't disappoint.

The oldest castle of Delhi. This is the most possible site of Indraprastha castle of Pandavas during Mahabharat era. This place is still less crowded and well maintained and with nice weather as it is present at elevation and surrounded by greenery, Yamuna river and Pragati Maidan. To reach here you can take Auto from Supreme court metro. Must visit parts are Bada Darwaza, excavation site, Museum and the surrounding parks. The Delhi zoo is also near this site.

Excavations point to traces from the 3rd century BC, the pre-Mauryan period. The first two rounds of excavations – in 1954–55 and 1969–72 – by B. B. Lal, then director of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), had unearthed traces of Painted Grey Ware culture (PGW) under the mound. At the time, Lal had embarked on a mission to excavate various sites mentioned in the Mahabharata text and had found such traces as a common feature at all those sites. On the basis of traces of the PGW, Lal concluded that it was the site of the Pandava kingdom of Indraprastha, estimating 900 BCE as the period of the Kurukshetra war. Later on, excavation conducted by Dr. Vasant Kumar Swarnkar, Superintending Archaeologist of the ASI during 2013-14 and 2017-18 confirms that the site of Purana Qila has a continuous habitation from the Pre-Mauryan era to the British Raj. Swarnkar has stated that they have not found the PGW in a stratified layer which will attest to the presence of its culture. Alexander Cunningham identified the fort with that of Indraprastha, though he referred to the present structure as built by Muslims. Dinpanah The origins of the Purana Qila lie in the walls of Dinpanah, the new city of Delhi being constructed by Mughal emperor Humayun, in the general vicinity of the ancient Indraprastha ruins. Abul Fazl states that he built the fort in the place of that of ancient Indraprastha. The founder of the Suri Dynasty, Sher Shah Suri, defeated Humayun and made changes to the fort, strengthening its fortifications and completing its walls. He also had another fort built there called Shergarh, where the governor resided. His project, however, was a continuation of Humayun's construction of a citadel for a royal city. He also built many structures inside the fort. Additions to the fort have been believed to have been made even after his rule. The extent of his contribution to the fort's construction is disputed. The historical attribution of its construction is also uncertain judging from primary sources. Muhammad Khwandamir said that Humayun laid the foundation of the city on a mound near Yamuna. The construction of the walls and fortifications were almost finished by Humayun's time. Tarikh-i-Da'udi states that Sher Shah Suri's royal city remained incomplete upon his death and he had named his fort Shergarh. Abbas Sarwani states the two forts being constructed by him were incomplete when he died. Tarikh-i-Khan-Jahan states that Salim Shah Suri had constructed a wall defending Dinpanah of Humayun. Purana Qila and its environs flourished as the "sixth city of Delhi". On 7th October, 1556 Hindu king Hem Chandra Vikramaditya, who had defeated Akbar's forces decisively at Battle of Delhi (1556) was crowned in Purana Qila. British Era Edwin Lutyens who designed the new capital of British India, New Delhi, in the 1920s, had aligned the central vista, now Rajpath, with Purana Qila. During the Partition of India, in August 1947. This included over 12,000 government employees who had opted for service in Pakistan, and between 150,000–200,000 Muslim refugees, who swarmed inside Purana Qila by September 1947, when Indian government took over the management of the two camps. The Purana Qila camp remained functional until early 1948, as the trains to Pakistan waited until October 1947 to start.(Wikipedia)

Inaugurated in 1959, National Zoological Park is situated near The Old Fort in Delhi and is a favourite weekend spot among adults and children alike. From biggest cats to the tiniest birds, the zoo has all kinds of animals and birds. Initially, it was known as Delhi Zoo when in 1982 it was renamed The National Zoological Park with the idea of making it the model zoo of the country. At the Zoological Park, birds and animals live in an environment that in many ways resemble their natural habitat. The zoo not only provides a home for endangered species but also helps them to breed in captivity. It also holds Conservation Breeding Programmes for Asiatic Lion, Royal Bengal Tiger, Brow Antlered Deer, Swamp Deer, Indian rhinoceros and red jungle fowl. Eventually, they may once again thrive in the wild.

Much better than a visit to the Red Fort, Old Fort is less frequented by visitors plus is stands apart and not part of a congested neighbourhood. For taxi & car routes choose the National Zoological Gardens as the destination. Ample parking provided if you come early. Paper tickets are no longer issued, entry only after reading the QR code displayed & buying tickets online. Bring at least one ID as without which entry will not be allowed. Credit card doesn't work on the system, only debit card or PayTM. Ticket generated will be scanned while entering the monument at turnstiles & same procedure on the way out. Once inside you'll find a huge citadel almost empty considering you're in the middle of a city of millions. Most monuments are centres around Sher Mandal whith a Hammam & a Baoli next to it. Don't forget to walk a bit extra & check out the two other gates of the Old Fort. Humayuni Darwaza is impressive but the Talaaqi Darwaaza will simply blow your mind being the only gate I've ever seen which could be used for both boat traffic as well road traffic.

It was a wonderful experience went in the evening and also saw light and sound show with kids. The show the history of delhi thru projection and sound. It was facinating my kids loved it... only issue was as it is rainy season and the show happens in park so lot of mosquitoes... Dnt forget to apply Odomos etc cream on yourself when u go. Nice view from top of some walls of quila Another interesting sight on a nice walk through Delhi are the of Purana Qila - built by the Afghan Sher Shah, who ruled over India for a short period. Entry costs only 5ripee per person and there are some nice view and the Quila Mosque. You can walk up to the top of this mosque to have the best view over the sight. Nice place for couples also. Excellent place for a History lover I visited this Qila when I came to New Delhi with my cousin brother's.The purana Qila was build by the famous Mughal emperor Humanyun. There was three gateways in the Purana Qila. The big gate which was located at West. The second one is known as Humayun gate and the last gate was Talagi gate also known as forbidden gate. The Humayun's tomb was near the Purana Qila. So,it is a paradise for a History lover. Reviewed 15 July 2016 Monument of living history Old fort or the purana quila is one of the most visited tourist sites that narrates history of Delhi. It appears to be a broken Rampart, but depicts history of Delhi. Located near Pragti maidan. You can also enjoy boating in the lake below the high walls of the fort in the green surroundings. Sound and light show is another attraction at this place in the evening at a cost of Rs 100/-. The show is good and check timing before visiting. Purana quila has a symbolic value so far the charms of Delhi go.

Purana Quila also known as "Old Fort" .It's good place to enjoy with friends and families. It's also a good example of architecture and u can do some photography there. For both lake and quila price is rs.40/adult. Closing time is around 5P.M Better to visit early n enjoy 😉

Great place to visit. Sprawling fort, well maintained by Archeological Survey of India. Has sprawling gardens, dilipidated ruins in its yester-century, 2500 years Mauryan period magnificence and lazy elegance. Has a small museum with exhibits and archaeological discoveries made during excavations within the complex in 1955. The fort has an adjoining lake too bedecked with pretty fountains, with a promenade running all around it. The sight is particularly beautiful at dusk, as the fort lights at night. The boat rides there have been stopped though. Tickets for each is issued separately. Online payment is convenient as no queuing is required. Mind you, you need to walk a lot inside .. say, 2 square kilometres to cover it all. No eateries allowed inside. Has convenient car parking.

Purana Qila is Urdu for Old Fort and is situated in New Delhi. It is often referred to as Shergarh or Sher Fort after the Mughal Emperor Sher Shah Suri, who began its construction. Purana Qila is said to be inhabited for the past 2,500 years, and excavations at the site show evidence for materials belonging to the pre-Mauryan era. Its Old heritage monument very well maintained.

Purana Qila (Old Fort), located adjacent to Pragati Maidan, is one of the oldest forts of Delhi. It was built under famous Afghan ruler Sher Shah Suri. Although last excavation in 2013-14, point to traces from the 3rd Century BC, the pre-Mauryan period. Attractions: 1. The lake outside and boating. 2. Well spread lawns and gardens. These have become favorite hangout for dating couples. 3. Museum. 4. Venue for many cultural events like Sufi Music Festival. 5. "Ishq-E-Dilli"- the Light & Sound Show depicting the historical significance and glory of the fort. Timings: 0700 hrs till 1700 hrs on all days. It is a magnificent part of Indian history and makes you feel proud of our rich heritage. Highly recommended for picnics, dating, educational tour and cultural events.

Purana qila is the oldest of all qilas in delhi built by Sher Shah Suri. If you want history you can google other the main thing is there is three types of tickets one with purana qila another one purana qila with lake and the third one purana qila, lake and museum. If you want to check all three you have to pay 45per head. Inside the qila the cleanness is very good, plantation and scenery is also good. If you are photogenic it's the best place. If you want to spend time with your Loved ones gf lover you can go there but if your visiting with your children it's not the best place don't go towards the park because there are only couples. And the worst thing is the washroom never use washroom inside the qila it's the worst no water no sanitization nothing.outside the qila you have zoological park and eatables restaurant. Enjoy your visit 🙏🙏

Entry fee is ₹20 per person for the Quila only. Also now-a-days, in the post-lockdown era, tickets are available only in the online mode which you can get via Paytm or Debit/credit cards. It houses several amazing masterpieces of Mughal Architecture. The famous library from where Humayun fell off and died is also in the same campus. Have a nice fibre loaded meal before entering the campus as you are in for a great walk of around 4 to 5 kms throughout. A water bottle is extremely recommended. If you are planning to go for a picnic there, know that no food is allowed in the campus . Only water bottles. Sanitation is of a very high level and washrooms are also available in the campus. Also, it's Divyang-friendly. Do not Litter or engrave your lover's name on the stones as it only brings badluck. You didn't know...!!🙄 Ya, it does. So don't you dare write on the walls. It's our heritage and keep it like that only. If you see a secluded place, don't take it for oyo rooms. Respect the architecture. Have a nice walk around the beauty we call Purana Quila..!! Enjoy..!!

History - Purana Qila is said to be fort of ancient Indian city of Indraprastha where the legendary Pandavas ruled. The origins of the Purana Qila lie in the walls of Dinpanah, the new city of Delhi being constructed by Mughal emperor Humayun, in the general vicinity of the ancient Indraprastha ruins.

Historic place, nice place to spend your evening just chilling and walking around. Nothing extra or special to see here apart from a few old buildings that are moderately impressive. There are four to five sites inside the compound, lot of walking required. Probably a good place for couples because this place was filled with them just hanging out. Humayun's gate is the only site here which looks nice. Decent place for photography too. Well maintained and clean to an extent.

Went there just to take a walk and spend some nice time with family. You have to take 2 different tickets for the lake and the Qila. 20rs for lake per person &40 for the qila per person. The lake is a disaster...no cleanliness on the stairs, lake is very dirty.Boating isn't available & coming to the qila...not much to do inside. You can take a few photos and show your photography skills.

Take a deep dive into history. This place takes you to back to the 16th century and you wonder how those magnificent multilevel gates were built in such a short span! Moreover, how well they have survived the test of time! The small ASI museum is is also worth a visit. There are some interesting ivory paintings.

It is a famous Qila of delhi and most of tourist visit this place and it is next of Zoo. It is very clean and tidy and upu will find the greenery inside the Qila which is quite impressive. You can sit there and spend a day with your family. But please dont visit for boating purpose as there is no boating in purana qila now and now you can see the small lake only which is also not clean. Tickets are available both online and offline for both qila and lake.

Good Place for visiting alone and with your friends aur girlfriend. I would personally suggest to visit alone for the sake of peace of mind. Early morning time is the best. Do visit the lake also, although nothing much will be found there.😂 Rest you’ll find couples all over. After spending time here go to the zoological park just besides it.

Cool place to go with family, ticket experience could be better. You can buy tickets there by scanning a QR code and paying online, but admission system is tiring as each individual's ticket has to be scanned. What's annoying is they have to be scanned AGAIN while leaving. Other than that it's a great place to come see on a cool day. The cleanliness is a concern though, there was lots of rubbish in the old castle.

This place is so large in area, here you will find too much greenery which attracts people to enjoy the nature. Here amount is charged for entry. It's a historical place, inside this you will find a museum also. Very beautiful and neat and clean place. You can go for picnic also with lots of people, or can go with family also. Here you will find guard inside the quila because at some of the area entry is not allowed because of danger that you might get lost. Good place to visit. You will also have nice experience after visiting here.

Purana Qila is a must-visit destination for anyone interested in Delhi's rich history and cultural heritage. Visiting Purana Qila (Old Fort) was a truly memorable experience. The fort is a beautiful and fascinating historical site that is well worth a visit. The fort's beautiful red sandstone walls and intricate carvings are truly impressive, and the surrounding park is a beautiful place to relax and take in the scenery. The impressive red sandstone walls and intricate carvings of the fort are a testament to the Mughal Empire's architectural prowess. The Qila-i-Kuhna Mosque, located within the fort, is a remarkable piece of religious architecture and provides insight into the past. The park surrounding the fort is a peaceful retreat from the hustle and bustle of the city, and it's great to see locals using it as a recreational space. The museum within the fort is also well worth a visit, as it showcases the rich cultural heritage of Delhi and the many civilizations that have called the city home over the centuries. The museum inside the fort offers a wealth of information about Delhi's history, and the exhibits are informative and engaging. I would highly recommend a visit to Purana Qila for anyone interested in Delhi's history and culture. The fort is a unique and memorable destination that is sure to leave a lasting impression.

I have visited Purana Quila many times but nowadays Purana Quila is basically for couples came there to make out the whole environment is getting bad Purana Quila if you’re planning to visit Purana Quila with your family it will be awkward when youSee couples making out there openly I suggest if you are thinking to visit must go with friends not with family. If you are thinking to take pictures then you should go it’s a very beautiful place to take pictures and do photo shoot. And best thing is when you go in evening on some days they even do a show by projecting light in Purana Quila Which is amazing.

Purana Qila (lit. 'Old Fort') is one of the oldest forts in Delhi, India. Built by the second Mughal Emperor Humayun and Surid Sultan Sher Shah Suri,[1] it is thought by many to be located on the site of the ancient city of Indraprastha.[2] The fort forms the inner citadel of the city of Dinpanah.[3] It is located near the expansive Pragati Maidan exhibition ground and is separated from the Dhyanchand Stadium by the Mathura Road, Delhi. The origins of the Purana Qila lie in the walls of Dinpanah, the new city of Delhi was being constructed by Mughal emperor Humayun, in the general vicinity of the ancient Indraprastha ruins.[7] Abul Fazl stated that he built the fort in the place of that of ancient Indraprastha.[8] The founder of the Suri Dynasty, Sher Shah Suri, defeated Humayun and made changes to the fort, strengthening its fortifications and completing its walls. Tarikh-i-Khan-Jahan states that Salim Shah Suri had constructed a wall defending Dinpanah of Humayun.[

Purana Qila, also known as the Old Fort, has a rich history and is believed to be the site of Indraprastha, the legendary capital of the Pandavas from the Mahabharata. While historical evidence includes pottery shards from the Mahabharata period, the fort was officially built by Mughal Emperor Humayun in the 16th century as part of Dinpanah. Archaeological excavations confirmed continuous habitation from the 4th to the 19th century. The fort is often referred to as "Pandavon ka Qila," and local legends contribute to its significance. The name "Old Fort" distinguishes it from other forts in Delhi. In the 20th century, the village of Inderpat within the fort walls was relocated during the construction of the modern capital. Purana Qila holds a unique place in Delhi's history, blending myth and archaeological findings. Another notable structure in Purana Qila is the Sher Mandal, believed to be built by Sher Shah around 1541 CE. Later repurposed into a library by Humayun, this compact octagonal building is made of red sandstone with minimal marble decoration. Tragically, Emperor Humayun suffered a fatal fall on its steps while hurrying down upon hearing the call to prayer. Additionally, numerous excavation sites within the premises reveal a layered history spanning centuries. The entry fee to visit Purana Qila is Rs. 20 for Indians and Rs. 200 for Foreigners. The fee for Camcorder is Rs. 25.

Great place to go to observe the historical architecture of the Mughal age. There's also a musuem full of relics from ancient Indian dynasties dug from this site. Very clean and well-kept. Open lawns are also present, which can be used as hang out spots.
