After hearing so many good reviews about this New Delhi "institution". I finally decided to pay a visit. The experience was underwhelming to say the least. The food, the ambience, the staff everything was straight up rubbish. Their "famous" Butter Chicken tasted like hospital food. The gravy was bland and the chicken was rubbery. They have photographs of dignitaries all around their restaurant but couldn't afford to fix the leaking walls. The Manager has no clue what he is doing. The staff seemed drunk. Even the air conditioning was not working properly inside the room. I would like to give this restaurant a 0 rating. But again that is not possible on Google. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY PEOPLE!

As we most extreme individuals know moti mahal has skilled Tandoori Chicken, Butter Chicken and Dal Makhni to the world. In any case, presently here I am giving you an exceptionally huge and uplifting news to all foodies absolute first time in Quite a while just Moti Mahal Daryaganj will begin Live Food Prepare on Guest's table. Other outlets even can't consider everything except soon it will be start and this is another an extremely huge present for delhiites from MOTI MAHAL. Recently just I met with Mr. Vinod Chadha Sir who is the proprietor of moti mahal, he is exceptionally sensible individual, soon he is dispatching numerous new things so folks stay associated for additional updates. Another Point I need to share is that Mr. Gordon James Ramsay the generally well known and most influential chef also worked in the most hygienically cleaned kitchen of Moti Mahal. From 25th January 2021 our old Delhi acclaimed qawwalis likewise going to be start in Moti Mahal. In the event that we talk about ladies strengthening so how our Moti Mahal can behind on this Just to refresh you all from now Ms. Blooty Chadha D/O Mr. Vinod Chadha will deal with this Restaurant PS: They DO NOT have some other branch, MOTI MAHAL is just in Daryaganj, Old Delhi.

After hearing and reading so much about this restaurant, we decided to try the famous food of Moti Mahal. Sorry to say it’s nothing compared to other restaurants in Delhi. Tried their tandoor veg and non veg platters. Butter chicken. Chicken tikka masala. Shahi tudka. Only 1 of these dishes were delicious and it was tandoori VEG platter. Otherwise, this is not worth the hype. The Décor is so outdated. They have “Amitabh Bachchan” visited this restaurant on every table (very tacky). The menus are so old and need to be reprinted. Over-Hyped Butter Chicken is too sweet. The Shahi tudka has noo “Tukda”; it was really disgusting actually. Will not be visiting or recommending this to anyone.

it was a sheer pity to see how a heritage restaurant of Delhi, once famous across India has become a total dump. The restaurant furniture hasn't been updated since the 70's, it was so dark & seedy inside that I almost wanted to turn back. We had to use the flashlight of our smartphones to view the menu as it was so dark. I've seen better serving staff at state government run hotels than here, there were only two middle aged waiters who were interested in the tips they might get from a table of guests nearby than look after my family. I had to resort to shouting "Bhaiya" & wave my hands multiple times for them to come to our table. My parents had finished eating before me & the waiter brought finger bowls for them & started taking away my plate too even though I wasn't finished, he simply wouldn't be bothered to come back again and bring me my finger bowl. The food was such a disappointment, the naans were like Chapatti & not thick & soft as they should be, the butter chicken was tragic, it was cooked in tomato purée & they didn't use any fresh tomatoes, it's as if you inserted some chicken pieces into a tomato soup. The Afghani kebabs were chewy & I had to pull at them in order to eat them, simply disgusting. The Mutton Pulao my parents ordered tasted of everything thrown together much like a dry Khichdi. There were flies everywhere outside & the ladies room was locked & was opened only after I told them my Mom wanted to use it, imagine how embarrassing that was. ₹3,095 simply wasted but a lesson learnt & I hope with this review future connoisseurs avoid the mistake I made of coming to this once renowned but not utterly decrepit joint.

Restaurant was good really clean and well maintained and beautiful staff behavior is good but the food is not as expected. It wasn't bad but it's definitely not the best butter chicken ever. Chicken quantity was good and it was really tender but i expected better from the birthplace of butter chicken

4 stars only for their Butter Chicken coz it no doubt the Best Butter Chicken in Delhi NCR. I came here for a family dinner. As soon as you enter this place you get this old world charm...the ambience is quaint. You'll get a table easily. Now coming to their food. We ordered both veg and non veg. From the veg menu we had dal makhani (recommended by the chef), paneer lababdar and paneer tikka. From the non-veg menu we ordered, the obvious, butter chicken, tangri kebab and mutton seekh kebab. From the breads we chose Butter Naan and tandoori roti. Now I'll be honest here...if you are a vegetarian then you won't be liking their veg food coz it's first of all over expensive (for veg) and the taste is also quite average. Dal makhani is no doubt good but it's certainly not as good as we can find in other places in Delhi. Paneer lababdar lacked flavours. For non-vegetarians, their starters are not quite up to the point. Tangdi kebab was all bland and dry. Then we tried their mutton seekh kebabs which we, I'm disappointed to say, were frozen kebabs that they cooked in a tandoor. They are very very elastic, and feel like you're chewing a rubber. They were so bad that we had to call the waiter and get it replaced with chicken tikka. Overall, the starters were a flop show. And finally I had high hopes for the Butter Chicken and that is the only thing that didn't disappoint me. THE BUTTER CHICKEN IS THE BEST HERE. Have it with butter naan and you won't be disappointed. Go to this place if you are craving for a good old butter chicken and naan combo. Rest all can be skipped. My bill was around 2800/

My experience at the iconic moti Mahal restaurant. I accompanied my cousins who came all the way from shahabad marakanda (a place in haryana) very near to ambala. Although I had also heard a lot about moti Mahal restaurant as the inventor of butter chicken. I leave that for the Indian judiciary to decide as the case is pending in court. So we went on a weekday and reached around 5 pm, the place still had people eating Lunch. Since we had come prepared to eat the famous butter chicken so we ordered the same. The service was quite nice and quick. It took less than 10 minutes for our order being served. While we were eating suddenly the place became full with a group of around 35-40 people and all order the same butter chicken, the gravy was quite nice and not spicy at all. The dish was accompanied with onion salad normal & spicy and tangy mint sauce. We had a wonderful experience and enjoyed our dish to the fullest. The waiter who served us name Rakesh has been serving at the restaurant for last 30 years. While walking out we were reading about the history and the celebrities who visited this iconic place. We came to know about the owner Mr Vinod Chadha, he himself was there at the restaurant. He was very courteous and gave his visiting card and also readily accepted our request to click a picture. All in all a very humble and down to earth man. A must visit place for all non vegetarian lovers.

The experience was very nice and I was shocked that this hotel was visited by many famous people such as Gordon Ramsay. The staff were friendly and the owner was also very friendly. Though, the food quantity was less. I do recommend that the restraunt should have a logo and have less information in the banner as we would not have even seen it if there was no traffic because it would look like a normal restraunt. After eating the owner took a picture with us and overall it was a good experience.

This is the original first and only outlet of Moti mahal brand. (inventor of Butter chicken). No other branches for this outlet. Since I had only one day itinerary in Delhi, I wanted to try the must visit restaurant here and chose this. Located in Daryaganj. Parking - no parking facilities available. And since we are tourists, we went by cab. Ambience - very simple and old style. Outdoor seating is also available. Bollywood songs were being played on a projector. Service - Service was good. And being non hindi speakers, we faced no trouble here. Able to order and communicate easily In English. Food : we loved their speciality Butter chicken 😍🐔🍲. The taste was amazing with very small and tender chicken pieces. Also we tried the tandoori chicken here - was just normal in taste. Felt it was bit dry. Pricing - pricing is very high. Half butter chicken costs 420rs and half tandoori chicken at 310rs. And cool drinks are priced over the MRP price. Rating - 4/5 as it's a must visit resto in Delhi to taste their legendary butter chicken. But other items are not so worth spending.

Oh! What a fabulous experience we had. Mind you am writing about the Gulati's restaurant ex Pandara Road. Within that quadrangle is also one - Veh Gulati, bang opposite!!! Simple decent interiors with comfortable seating (has a wall side cushioned seats) with a plethora of awards decorating the largest wall. Foor is typical northern Indian with real Punjabi finish. The dishes are unique and quite signature with a presentation to swoon over.!! Shahi Nawabi murg and neza kebab in small eats is simply delicious and mouth watering. The naans (we had ajwaini, garlic and makhani) are soft and melts in the mouth. The dal makhani is oh! So yummy! In the mains - murgh malai methi is superb and leaves a lingering taste on the taste buds. The staff is courteous and do help in choosing the menu. It's real value for money and a place worthy of a visit , again and again. With family and friends . To really gorge on the delectable cuisine one should go with a starving tummy, to do real justice . Certainly a restaurant to be ticked - soon.

Ate butter chicken and it was delicious... Half butter chicken is good enough for two people. You get 4 big juicy pieces. We ordered..one butter chicken half..2 butter naan and 2 tandoori butter roti..order total was around 750.. Parking is an issue..so if the restaurant is on your left..then go straight and take a right at the red Light....there are lots of empty spaces there for parking...

A very average restaurant. The food is not upto the mark. Not at all. The restaurant was empty when we reached there at around nine at night. We were the first customers that day till then. The seating arrangement is too conjusted. Outdoors is in shambles. Above all the taste of food is simply bad. Won't suggest anyone to go these .

Visited recently to this restaurant located at pandara road which serves the best northindian food and starters too. We started with malai paneer tikka, dahi kebabs which were so soft and the texture was perfectly smooth. In drinks i loved their blue lagoon and masala soda . Then we ordered mains. Tried their dal makhni and paneer makhni which i loved. Had them with their garlic naan! ❤️ It's a family restaurant. You are going to love the food there. The quantity is great as well as the quality. Ended with their Gulabjamun and gajar ka halwa which was my fav part.

Gulati's is synonymous to good food. This is one of the legendary and oldest places in Delhi. Its usually crowded and you have to wait outside. Their non-Veg items are really wonderful. For Vegetarian Only people, they have a separate restaurant in the same market.

I've always heard about their name since my childhood but yesterday was the day when i got that chance to taste their delicacies and yes everything we ordered was super delicious. They serve both veg and non veg items. But we ordered veg seekh kebab and chilli paneer as starters and matar paneer, dal fry and a big family naan. Everything was so good and naan was so soft. Being Situated on the busy roads of old delhi still people from nearby visit them. One must visit them for a good experience. Staff was polite and good. They've a good sitting arrangement. I would love to go their again and try their other new things too.

After Gordon Ramsay's take on the Butter Chicken served here, I was tempted to visit this gem and give it a try. Turns out I prefer Lovely's chicken stall for my tandoori cravings. But having said that, the butter chicken here is worth a single shot try. This place has a unique history to it. It supposedly is the mother of Butter chicken recipe! It has pre-partition Peshawari heritage and it has come a long way! All in all Price. - ₹₹ Taste - 3/5 Ambience - calm and cool

Moti Mahal was founded by Kundan Gujral, Thakur Das Magu in Delhi 1947. They worked at a small eatery called Moti Mahal. After the partition of India in 1947, Gujral, Thakur and jaggi are fled to Delhi with their families. three partners bought a thara (booth) in the Daryaganj area, then considered a newer part of Old Delhi and then they started Moti Mahal, Daryaganj. Moti Mahal further went on to invent butter chicken, paneer makhani, and dal makhani as well as the modern tandoori chicken. : Recommended dishes in veg- (dal makhni and Shahi paneer) Non veg - butter chicken 🐔🍗 Walking distance 500m approx. from jama masjid gate no. 01.

The food is really good. Do not skip the butter chicken when there. The mutton burra is so tender it just melts! The rotis have great taste too! But do not expect much of an "ambiance" from the place. It has the old time restaurant feel, but they could improve on the restrooms m stuff!

The food approved by Master Gordon Ramsay was great obviously but the price they charge for it doesn't justify at all. You could expect a fine dining experience but it was just like a normal restaurant. The ambience was poor, the walls had a very dull color, there were news channel floating around on two old CRT TVs. Very disappointed to see that this restaurant with such an iconic history the management has done very little to glorify it.

Moti Mahal Restaurant has brought the global approach of dinning with focus on authentic indian food as well as serving Chinese. Moti Mahal is one of the oldest restaurants in Delhi. It was founded in Daryaganj shortly after we, as a nation, obtained independence. It takes credit for having introduced the recipes for burra kebabs, butter chicken and tandoori chicken to the culinary world.

An ages old chain of restaurants that are highly popular for their North Indian and Mughlai preparations, they bring the taste of fine dining to the price-point of a casual dining restaurant. They have a simple yet charming seating space that is perfect for enjoying some time with family, friends, or a loved one and allows food to be the centre of your visit. Recommended: Paneer Achari Tikka, Dal Makhani, and every chicken dish on the menu

It is the first and the oldest Moti Mahal Restaurant (different from Moti Mahal Deluxe). The ambience is okay, it would feel kind of old style but guess that's how they want it to be. The service was slow. The veg food was total waste though non-veg was okay. Food taste is not even close to what I expected given their name.

As the name suggests, Legendary. We especially went to try butter chicken and it was quite full of flavour. A must try! We paired it with soft and buttery naan and it was a great experience. Ambience is not that great. They have maintained the old restaurant vibe which also sets them apart and works in their favour. Lots of seating space.

An extra star for hospitality which was warm and very welcoming in this bitter cold. The taste however could have been better. Can't say I enjoyed the whole experience too much. But that could also be because of our own over-inflated expectations. Last but not the least, the ambience needs a serious revamp, I believe that's underway as well. Would definitely want to return once the promised outdoors are re-done and re-launched.

Pandara road is very famous for its restaurants but Gulati restaurant is specially the most famous one out of every famous restaurants here. I had one of the best non- veg dishes here, the food was just outstanding, i have no words to express it. Service here was also quite good, the waiter time and again checked on us and asked. The restaurant took all the safety measures for covid very seriously. Just the food prices were a little bit higher that's the only thing which disappointed me rest the restaurant was just amazing.

It's not a place to spend your leisure time. The staff is not friendly and in a hurry to make you finish the meal and get out. Starters and main course are served together. The digital bill first shows tip amount and then bill amount. Food is very spicy 🥵, nothing much to speak about. Ambience is average. Overall it was a sad experience.

This place is very known and famous for its delicacies in Hyderabadi Chicken Biryani and Butter Chicken. I tried their Butter chicken and it was epic. The gravy was rich and creamy. The chicken pieces were soft and fresh. I really liked the same. Also, I loved the Biryani. It was very fresh and flavourful. Paneer butter masala, paneer tikka and malai kofta were also really nice. The Dessert were very tasty. The staff and management of this place is very nice. One of the best staff I've ever witnessed.I had a great time over there

First suggestion - Make it quick to the restaurant or else you might find yourself waiting for a table especially on weekends. Butter Chicken and Butter Nan. Absolutely scrumptious. Aloo gobi was the next big hit. Dahi kebab was good. Polite and courteous staff. Excellent service and hygienic. Taking all precautions for covid. Would definitely love to visit the restaurant again.

It's worth visiting there. I had chicken tikka and their famous butter chicken and it was too good. I would highly recommend everyone to once try eating here. Also try their garlic naan, tandori roti, murgh malai tikka and neza kabab. Dahi kabab and Tandoori Mushrooms are aslo worth a try. The parking here is very limited hence would suggest using cabs or public transport.

One of the best Indian food places in the city. There Veg and Non Veg dishes are outstanding. They have maintained the quality through the years and one can never be disappointed. Butter chicken, Bhuna Gosht, Kakori kabab, Galaoti kabab, Mushroom, Dahi ke kabab....in short everything served here is amazing. Lal mirch wala onion salad adds zing to the meal.

  • 3/5 Dharmendra s. 3 years ago on Google
Food quality is really low.. I ordered mashroom to pyaza and garlic nanpp. Mushroom to pyaza was really flat in taste and Nan seems like to be made up of Garlic itself. Caretakers were very polite but food quality is not so good and hyped only. 3 rating is only because of bad food..

Wonderful food and the ambiance is also nice. You have to wait to get in here. They give you authentic Punjabi food and that's the reason behind this kind of rush among people to wait to eat here.

Great food and brilliant service! The interiors needs to be updated though and it just feels long overdue. Kind of feels like it is stuck between the old world elegance and neglected modern decor. But hey! It's all about the food here.. flaky garlicky naan, melt in your mouth butter chicken and the gravy to die for..must try place in Delhi.

First of all, when you enter the place, the entry of the restaurant will feel like wow, the aesthetics are great this place must be amazing. But once inside you will feel damn this place needs an upgrade. Being one of the oldest restaurants this place could offer all the amazing food and delicious treats but that doesn't mean you have to skyrocket only the prices of the food and when it comes to quality you will negotiate. Everyone review was like the butter chicken is so tasty and different here but come on if you know how to cook you will know that's not what butter chicken should taste like. The services are pathetic, like you have only two waiters on the round and we kept waiting for 15 minutes then someone came and took our order, finally they take like half an hour to get it to your table. And mind you if you order another naan or whatever you will regret it. What have they made of the place is sad!!!

The owners of authentic and tastiest Dal Makhani. Yet I have tried their Dal Makhani, Butter Chicken, Khasta Roti, Keema Roti and amazingly everything they serve is just wow to eat. Ambience is a perfect feel of 90s and the staff is very humble. Must visit!

  • 1/5 Kavya R. 8 months ago on Google
The restaurant is breaking down, with cealing patched up with cloth and tape. We tried to book first and they said there is no booking and on arrival we had to wait for 20+ minutes just to get a table. The food is another story altogether, took them more than half an hour to take our order and then another half an hour to serve it. The servers were slow, forgetful and simply annoying taking hours to serve and then some more to bring condiments. The famous butter chicken is absolutely better anywhere else I have ever tried and they served us paneer kebabs when we ordered chicken ones (im concerned for the person who ordered the veg ones and ate chicken instead). Overall the experience was horrible and I give it zero stars. My 7 year old niece says: this is RUBBISH!! (she insisted on the all caps)

It is an awesome place with the LOVELIEST of Staff, Food is with the ORIGINAL Taste flavours not the modified versions which we get in today's era. Cleanliness awesome, service fast with dishes served fresh hot. It brings back the nostalgia of the old times of Daryaganj. Totally and Madly in love with it and I am planning to visit it again soon.

After hearing a lot, i visited. Look at the portion size of 'Chicken malai tikka' they are giving for a price of Rs. 420/- half ... taste is average as well.. not recommended..

The food is authentic, it's a heritage and passion for the owner. The daughter of the owner at the counter informed that the restaurant is going for modernization and upgrade. This place deserves patronage because it's an authentic heritage of our culinary culture and ingenuity of Indian people. It created the Butter Chicken, Tandoori chicken and many more globally appreciated Indian recipes. Would love to see it again

  • 2/5 Mateo P. 4 months ago on Google
As other reviews have mentioned, this place is resting on its reputation and not backing it up with food quality. The full size butter chicken barely had any chicken in it, and I realized how inferior it is when I tried the butter chicken at Pinch of Spice restaurant in Agra, which was fantastic and had large pieces of boneless chicken breast. Maybe they thought "Since Gordon Ramsay was here, we can take it easy and stupid tourists won't know any better." Now we know.
