One of many pillars of Ashoka was moved here from Topra Kalan in Pong Ghati, Haryana under orders of Firoz Shah Tughlaq of Delhi Sultanate. The 13.1 meters high column, made of polished sandstone and dating from the 3rd century BC.

Ashokan Pillar, an ancient monolithic pillar with inscriptions from the Mauryan era. This pillar, transported to the fort centuries ago, adds an intriguing layer of historical significance to the site. Firuz Shah Kotla Fort, situated in the heart of Delhi, unfolds a chapter of history often overlooked by the bustling modern city. This ancient fortress, commissioned by Sultan Firuz Shah Tughlaq in the 14th century, stands as a testament to Delhi's rich and varied historical tapestry. The fort, although not as well-preserved as some of Delhi's other landmarks, exudes a certain charm that attracts history enthusiasts and curious tourists alike. The sprawling grounds, dotted with remnants of once-grand structures, provide a glimpse into the architectural prowess of the Tughlaq dynasty.

Almost wiped out from this planet. But Ashoka's inscriptions are still legible! Wondering what on earth the magnificent pillar was uprooted and brought back from far Ambala, by another insane Muslim invader!!! On purpose don't want to name him.

Ashoka pillar is one of the series of pillars dispersed and erected through the subcontinent by Mouryan Emporer Ashoka during his reign( 268 BC to 232 BC). Emporer Ashoka used the expression DHARMA STHAMBHA i.e. PILLARS OF DHARMA. Pillars averaging between 12 - 15 m in height, weighinh upto 50 tons of weight. These pillars are very important as they constitute Mouryan architecture and polish. Oly 20 pillars till date are known to be existing. Note: info borrowed from wikipedia
