A down right pathetic restaurant glorified by bloggers vloggers who are interested more in the history of the place rather than the quality of food I had high hopes from Chandni Chowk delhi as I had lot of tales about it but I’m sad these are just fairy tales Ordered mutton qorma and mutton biryani.. in both the dishes boiled mutton was added .. neither the gravy nor the rice had any flavour of mutton.. and both of these are their signature dishes and yet this was the outcome My humble request to all don’t blindly follow bloggers who get paid for such reviews and we blindly follow them I wasted my time efforts and money Request you all not to waste yours

Al jawahar is one of the nicer restaurants at Jama masjid. They have ample seating and is cleaner than most. They have seating on the ground as well as first floor. They have quite an exhausting menu with many mughlai delicacies which are reasonably priced. We tried the chicken changezi which cost around 500 rs and was delicious along with the khamiri roti. The service is prompt and worth visiting.

Definitely not recommended for those who have good taste buds! Totally overhyped!! The most awful biriyani I have ever tasted. Also, the mutton in mutton nahari was like rubber!! No taste of spices within it. Only the kebab 'mutton burra' was good. I wasted my time and money both!

My recent visit to Al Jawahar Restaurant left me with mixed feelings. The roti served was decent, providing a satisfactory accompaniment to the main course. However, it was the mutton nahari that truly stood out. The rich bone marrow flavor in the nahari was unmistakable, and it added a delightful depth to the dish. On the service front, I found it to be quite decent. The staff was attentive and courteous, ensuring that my dining experience was pleasant. In summary, Al Jawahar Restaurant is, in my opinion, an average place. While the mutton nahari and service were highlights, other aspects left something to be desired. It's worth a visit if you're in the area and craving some good mutton nahari, but it might not be the top choice for an exceptional dining experience.

1 word AMAZING...... Mutton Nihari is awesome. Meat is tremendously tender, just melts in the mouth. It is slowly cooked, gravy is thick n the ghee, chilies n ginger garnish savors the dish. It's worth trying. Mutton Changezi is also good. Way better than next door overhyped place (hope it's understood) The prices, however, I believe are a bit on the higher side compared it being at Old Delhi.

Al Jawahar is a famous restaurant in Old Delhi that specializes in Mughlai and North Indian cuisines. It is situated near Jama Masjid, one of the largest mosques in India, and attracts many tourists and locals alike. It has a spacious and elegant interior. The restaurant claims to offer the best mutton nahari in the city, which is a delicacy made of tender meat cooked in a rich and spicy gravy. The nahari is served with sheermal, a sweet and fluffy bread that balances the heat of the dish. However, Al Jawahar is not a perfect place to dine. The restaurant faces several issues that can affect the customer’s satisfaction. The restaurant is often overcrowded and noisy, especially during weekends and festivals. The service can be slow and rude, and the staff can be unprofessional and unhygienic. Some of the dishes can be too oily or salty, and the quality can vary depending on the day and time. The biryani can be dry and bland, and the desserts can be too sweet and heavy. In conclusion, Al Jawahar is an average restaurant that provides Mughlai food in a historic location. It is a good place for those who want to explore the old Delhi culture and enjoy the famous mutton nahari. However, it might not be a suitable place for those who are looking for a less crowd and comfortable dining experience.

They serve exceptional mughlai food. The Nihari and the Korma in both chicken as well as mutton are delicious and a "must-try". The restaurant is clean. However much like most restaurants in the vicinity they do tend to get crowded and one often has to wait a bit before being seated.

Al Jawahar is known for it's mughlai food and well known with good capacity for sitting, they've good arrangements (approx. 3 floors) but maintenance is slight low & bit unhygienic & service & hospitality is bit poor. If you visit Jama Masjid do try the place. We ordered - - Chicken & Mutton Seekh Kabab - 'Chicken Changezi vth Rumali Roti' (heard a lot about it) - Chicken Biriyani We ordered for Rumali Roti but without informing the waiter brought Tandoori Roti, as Rumali Roti got over. * The seekhs are really soft n juicy, with chutney...🤤🤤🤤 * The Chicken Changezi was amazing, bit spicy but tastes good, quite big, tender & sufficient pieces. As per our capacity, half can be serve for 4 people. * I love Biryani so I thought lets give it a shot. Looks wise the Biryani seems okay but truly disappointed. The biryani was not at all good, it literally was boiled rice with colors served with chicken pieces. It lacked aroma and flavor. Just opposite to Al Jawahar there is one small sweet shop we had Shahi tukda with Rabdi & that was yummy. 100 gms costs Rs.30/- for Shahi Tukda, if you want to add rabdi it will cost Rs.70/-.

Ok the next one on the list ticked off. Getting to this place is an adventure - this was a lunch affair so opportunity to really try all the food. Absolutely brilliant mutton Nihari — you can just drink it like soup .. just tasty as ever. The sheekh kabab was not as good as Kareems ( next door). The roti to accompany the food was epic the best ever .. it’s called something.

Not recommended at all. Very Overhyped and Over rated. I had heard a lot about the Mutton Nihari. But believe me I felt cheated when I took the first bite. The biryani was of the worst category. One should come to Odisha and try the Biryani, Mutton Curry and you will know the actual taste of Non Veg. Better spend your hard earned money in other better restaurants. This was my last visit to Al Jahawahar. Now I realise, Google should have a provision to give Negative start Ratings.

One of the best place to try chicken items with naan and rumali roti. Quantity is also good. But had to climb very steep stairs as we were served on the 2nd floor. Other than that, all was good. Interiors are also nice. Had chicken butter masala

The chicken nihari. OMG. Never heard of a chicken nihari concept, had heard of mutton nihari. Since, I'm a huge chicken cuisines lover, out of curiosity I ordered it and it was like wow. The taste, the spiciness, the juicy chicken meat. Just loved it. And the size of the rotis was enormous. Then we ordered Chicken seekh kababs. And it was wow. The ambience of the place is gorgeous. Didn't think of finding such photogenic and delicious location in the area. It was one of the delicious lunch I had ever had recently. I'm sure I'm not gonna go anywhere else to have chicken cuisines anymore for sure in Delhi.

Had heard quite a lot about this place. But the experience was like a Salman movie... High on expectations but missing on substance. The taste of the kebabs and tikkas was good but the place misses warmth... Very cold reception... Dirty waiters...expected a cozy buzzing place. Ordered mutton burrah and fried chicken with roomali... Taste wise 5/5. But, why are you guys miser on pyaaz and chutney. Had some awesome kebabs outside from a roadside outlet which was tastier and the guy served with a smile. Better to have at raees chicken or many others on the same road. But, if you want to sit down and eat, then this is the go to place. Maybe, I expected more.

The best non veg food you can have in Old Delhi. I just can't forget the taste of the items that I had. Also the price is way too cheap for having such a tasty food. Al Jawahar restaurant is present in the famous food street of Jama Masjid near Gate 1. This restaurant is present just beside Jawahar restaurant. We ordered Mutton korma, mutton nihari, chicken kali mirch, khamiri roti and rumali roti along with cold drinks. The taste of all the non-veg items were lip-smacking. I just can't forget the taste of it. The ambience is great and the portion size is unbelievably good. The staff behavior was top notch and it is the best place you can have good food around Jama Masjid area. We had to pay 1500 for 4 people and it was way too cheap. If anyone is looking for a great treat around this area then they have to visit this place or they will miss something really great. Totally worth every penny for this food. Recommend everyone to visit this restaurant and fill their tummies with heavenly food.

I had heard a lot of good things about the place, hence this was on the top lists of restaurant in Delhi when I visited there. I ordered Nalli Nihari and bread. The meat in Nihari was very well cooked but it was too oily and the bread was nothing special. You can visit for the hype while visiting Old Delhi

There are two Al Jawahar restaurant both next to each other near Jama masjid Gate no. 1. It's the same place where you have Karim hotel, actually the passage to Karim hotel falls between these two Al Jawahars. Its quite hard to comment which Al Jawahars better but the first one has definitely better seating arrangement. The food is definitely very spicy for sure. They would primarily have most of the Mughlai dishes, famous ones being mutton korma, butter chicken, seekh kabab & mutton chap. This ones is moderately expensive however it's a good to go restaurant if you want to try stronger & spicy version of Mughlai food.

Great sitting arrangement , Ground and 1st floor for normal sitting and 2nd floor is for Families, Nice staff and quick response and another great thing is that they accept card too. Great and hygienic food. Great experience all together. Definitely recommend if going out with friends or family too.

The place serves some very good non vegetarian North Indian food, which is slow cooked on low flame to infuse the perfect flavours in the dish. The service needs to be better though. Also one mutton piece in the mutton korma was very hard and un-chewable. After reporting it to the manager, they did finally replace that piece. (They did try to convince me that it's a breast piece hence it's hard but my argument was, it can be hard but that piece in my plate was literally un-chewable)

Definitely not a place to go and waste money. If you are a foodie with great taste, knowledge and purani dilli roots this place will sure going to disappoint you. Earlier it was good; 2 years back I went there and had sumptuous food in one word- paisa wasool but yesterday was a total mood-off. They don't know what korma is. Simple chicken curry they served with an enormous chicken piece that too with oil spilled all over. It was a big disappointment but yes they know their lacking so the good part is they compensate for it. Paneer tikka was good but not mouth watering. Quite jam packed place and overhyped. They also have removed some items from the menu which is i must say not good.

My worst experience in almost 280 reviews all over EUROPE and some in Delhi. Got a very nice response from the owner about my first review, that this is not their restaurant. And I am 100% sure, about eating here. I remember giving Tandoori token on the left hand side and eating in the restaurant on the ground floor. You are a good liar too. NEVER AGAIN. Service, ambience and taste; everything was so so. We did order Chicken tandoori for dining and we did take Daal makhani as take away. Honestly I have eaten better Tandoori, even in Europe; than the one I ate here. Daal makhani was just fine, nothing very much special about it. Honestly you get the reviews for food and service and I was not at all impressed by either of them.

Undoubtedly a great place for all authentic nonveg cravings. Very hygiene and clean atmosphere even being located in the crowd heart of Delhi. Chicken changezi is a must try at this place, even the mutton nihari was just mouthwatering with multiple layer of flavours. What went bad was the service, which I never experienced in my previous visits. Chicken seekh was served half burnt, that was not a problem, we asked waiter to changed it and he took it for replacement. What pathetic was that he came back with the same seekh kebab just covered with fresh cream and butter to overlap the burn kebabs. Comeon, do these idiots thinks is fool or a blind? This behaviour of staff was very usual to experience in my this visit which I never experienced before.

No wonder it is the best of Matia Mahal and its food joints there . This place is the first thing you will see on the left of the lane and I recommend you to try the food here as it the best it will get for you there in terms of curries and biryani. Ordered 'Chicken Changezi' which is their costliest chicken curry (tomato based curry). It was delicious and I would recommend you to try at least once in life from here and their achari biryani are also worth A TRY . I Liked the places for its cleanliness among others on this street and timely served delicious food. For more delicious food pics, checkout Instagram : Chatorian_Cuisine

My friends recommended me this place so i visited there few days back only. I had mutton korma with tandoori roti, the food was fresh and tasty. The quality and the quantity was pretty good. The staff was very friendly, If you love mughlai food then I would definitely recommend you to visit this place. The nearest metro station is jama masjid metro station gate number 1. If you are coming on 2 or 4 wheeler then it would be an issue for you as there is no parking available.

One of the finest and well known mughlai restaurants in the city. Extremely yummy foods. They offer variety of dishes and the price is moderate and worth. Sometimes you have to wait for tables. They only accept cash, no card or UPI payment. A must visit place if you like to taste authentic mughlai dishes. The place is very crowded and one will face parking problems for 4 wheelers.

Delicious Mughlai dishes are served here. Mutton stew and mutton korma are the two top cuisines, people come here for. The best part is they cook after getting orders That is why food is hot and tasty. I recommend Tandoori rotis and butter naan also. They are different from these served in other places. For vegetarians they offer delicious daals.✅

Sorry! Most tasteless food I have ever tasted in Delhi. It was a huge let down. Except the naan and grilled items, nothing was tasty. The curries were all drenched in oil. The biryani was the most tasteless biryani, I have ever tasted in my life. Also, they charge 50 rupees for a single cup of 7up or sprite ( totally felt cheated).

The prices of dishes have gone up and portion and taste have gone down. The only thing that remain the best are the khamiri roties. In mutton, nihari and quorma are good and chicken try kali mirch, curry and fry.

Well I have tried their food 10 years back at least so I thought of trying again, so I tried boti kebab which was nice but too much of sourness was there maybe because of chaat masala or lemon juice, roomali roti was good, sheermal was again good, khmiri was still good, tired allo gosht which was good but it was again more on sourness still manageable, then we asked for another mutton dish in mains, we were suggested mutton nihari which was total disappointment, lacked flavour, bill was 1300 plus for two people, which is fair enough. The washroom needs more cleaning, it did not look hygienic at all.

There are three floors each floor is clean and stunning. The architect is very beautiful and the lighting is shiny. Over-all I'll give the atmosphere 5/5 The service is a bit slow. Personally i think the food is overrated. I ordered a full plate chicken qorma which was around 500 ₹and the quantity was low,and the taste according to me was average. According to the food this is an overrated place.

Better than karims. Food is tasty u can taste all the different spices but mutton is mostly bones and less meat.price little on higher side. Good seating areas. Service is bad. And staff is very rude and arrogant. Taste aside avoid this place just because of behaviour of staff towards customers.

Recently I visited this outlet with my friends we ordered chicken changezi , tandoori chicken & chicken curry . The best thing i found here was their way of catering the customers , also the staff was so quick & agile in serving the dishes & managing other things as well . Talking about the food it was magically cooked , oh my god , like the chicken was so tender & all of the dishes cooked & served are so well-prepared in vivid flavours . I would recommend you guys to please order CHICKEN CHANGEZI once , I'm you'll surely like its taste . To sum up , I had a nice experience of enjoying brilliantly cooked nonveg food in this world renowned restaurant .

Expected to have some awesome delicious Mughlai food in Old Delhi area so after checking the reviews and friends suggestions visited this place. However I was not very happy with the food. LOCATION : Its located in the busy lane opposite the Gate 1 of Jama Masjid. The road is excessively crowded with filth all around. I don't know what the Delhi government is doing. This place definitely requires dedicated pedistrain walkways or elevated vehicle passage ways as in No way people can walk without touching each other! Horrible place. FOOD: We ordered Chicken Seekh Kabab, Khamini Roti and Chicken Biryani. We were given complimentary salad. The Seekh kabab was Ok-ish. If you've had the Seekh Kabab at Kolkata at Nizams then you will definitely draw comparison to it but this is no where close. The Laccha paratha that goes really well with Seekh Kabab is priced too high! So we went for Khamini Roti which was fluffy soft roti/ bread and was pretty nice. The Chicken Biryani should be avoided, if you've had any average Biryani in Hyderabad then you'll definitely not like this. The rice used for the chicken biryani are fat! There is no flavour. The chicken itself was decently cooked and was good. AMBIANCE: In this shabby area this place was like the Adobe of cleanliness. The restaurant was clean, and washbasin etc everything was nice. COST : Well, I felt the food is definitely not value for money. It's just that If you're visiting Jama Masjid there are no cleaner option, so they are charging for that. SERVICE : Service was good. We ordered Kababs+Khamini Roti as starters and then we wanted biryani. However, both starters and biryani was served together as If we were going to have starters with main course . PARKING: There's only hardly any place to walk. Forget parking. VERDICT: This was my one time visit. That was enough.

The most authentic Nalli Nihari that you can have. Its right in front of main entrance of Jama Masjid. The surroundings are a little unhygienic but that was because of the rains. Better to visit early morning to avoid the rush. Limited parking available for two wheelers. Better to come here in a cab or two wheeler. No space for four wheeler parking. Nihari is made without Onions and Garlic but taste is wonderful.

This is Nihari, one of the most delicious thing I ever had. I had it at Al Jawahar, near jama masjid. Nihari, invented in 18th century, during the last days of Mughal rule in Delhi, at the very place I was having it. According to some sources, people wanted a dish which didn't need much time and attention and you could just leave it to cook overnight, hence nihari was invented. If you ever visit old Delhi, please try this heavenly dish.

Rude management & staff Mutton stew - below average, no flavors of cardamom & other whole spices, it had some sweetness of thick onion gravy with oil & also not properly cooked. Chiken Korma - There was no taste in chicken pieces I presume they just dipped boiled chicken in pre cooked gravy having red chillies flavors only. Khameeri Roti - Average, nothing special to mention. Summary: These eating places have become quite popular because of youtubers so now they don't care to keep/maintain quality. Also they don't accept card/upi payments only cash :-(

Always wanted to visit this iconic restaurant. Got a chance to visit in 2022 winters this place is located right in front of jama masjid. We got the sens how popular this place is once we get inside, it was jam packed and we had to wait for 10 min on a weekday for lunch. We ordered mutton kabab, iconic and their best selling item chicken changezi, mutton korma and mutton nihari with tandoori kamiri roti. Mutton korma and kabab were very nice but didn't like nihari much. Chicken changezi was also good. Overall nice place to witness mughal cuisine. Prices are also moderate.

This place located adjacent to Karim's has for long lived under it's shadows. While lot of the eaters continue visiting Karim's over Al Jawahar, over the years Al Jawahar has been gradually spreading repute. The seating here is comfortable and one need not share table with strangers. We ordered mutton burra, mutton nihari, khameeri roti and sheermal. Taste wise this place has never disappointed. Enjoyed all of them. Abundant quantity relative to price and great taste. Would rank burra and sheermal very high. Mutton in the burra was absolutely tender & well marinated.. This is a must to have. Service was prompt. If certain items are likely to take time they would mention it upfront.. Even if it's a wait time of 15min.

Al Jawahar is a famous 🏛️ Mughlai restaurant located in the crowded 🌆 Jama Masjid area of Delhi. The restaurant has been in business for over 70 years and is known for its 😋 delicious and authentic Mughlai cuisine. I recently visited Al Jawahar with a group of 👥 friends and we ordered a variety of dishes, including 🍢 chicken seekh kebab, 🐏 mutton seekh kebab, 🍗 butter chicken, and 🍚 biryani. The food was all very good, but the 🐏 mutton seekh kebab was the ⭐️ standout dish. The mutton was cooked perfectly and was so 😋 tender that it 😋 melted in our mouths. We also enjoyed the 🍗 butter chicken, which was 😋 rich and flavorful. Overall, I had a positive experience at Al Jawahar. However, I would recommend that the restaurant improve its hygiene standards.

It is located right in front of Jama Masjid Gate No 1. Reach Chawri Bazar or Chandni Chowk Metro Station and walk/ rikshaw for 10 min. Went recently in Jan'21 Food: It is a Mughlai Restaurant. But you will find less spicy than other cities, even to the extent of little bit sweet taste in all dishes. May have to wait for 10-20 min on weekends. Ordered Kadhai Gosht, Roti n Mutton Biryani. Mutton pieces in Biryani were unchewable. Rice taste was okay. Overall you can go once for the sake of experience. Fond lovers of Mughlai, may find it disappointing as compared to Kolkata or Lucknow Mughlai food

The ambience is not that great, the service is fast. Tried seekh kebab, shami kebab and chicken tikka. Loved how the seekh kebab melts in your mouth. Shami kebab were not that great and chicken was a bit dry. But absolutely loved the seekh kebab here!

Worst mughlai food ever. They don't even know what mughlai is. It's all a brand game now. The gravy is seasoned with onion rings and random garlic mixture with a litre of oil. I felt ashamed, to have invited my friends to taste it being from lucknow. If you still want to eat it from Al-Jawahar, burning your money and soaking the heat will give you more pleasure. I wish I could take a picture of that oil tray but I reminded myself - Ignorance is bliss.

Food was served within 15 mins but the taste was not as good as expected. Half plate chicken mughlai and 2 tandoori rotis were sufficient for two people. With a bill of 300 bucks, we were pretty full. The only dessert option was kheer, which was mediocre in taste. The waiters were wearing masks, but other than that no such covid-19 hygiene was being maintained. I would advice to try other eatries in the area for a better experience.

Spicy 🌶 food lovers can go for nihari while non-spicy can go for kharore. Over all the experience was good.

One of the best places in delhi to have mughlai cuisine. Delicious food, Quick service and Fabulous Quantities of the food. Al-Jawahar won't disappoint you. You can take your time and your closed ones here at Old Delhi at the road of Jama Masjid (Front road of Gate no. 2 Of Jama Masjid). The nearest metro station is Jama Masjid (Gate no. 1).

  • 5/5 Rishabh K. 2 years ago on Google
If you want to savour authentic mughlai flavour from Purani Dilli (Old Delhi), this is the place to visit. And yes, to reach this place is journey in itself. Going through crowded and narrow streets of jama masjid. And then you reach the heaven of chicken and mutton dish. Ordered Roti (Tandoori and Roomali), Chicken Changezi and Seek Kebab (mutton and chicken). Chicken Changezi was full of flavours and to people who doesn't know, 1 plate in delhi gives you 8-10 pcs of chicken, so order cautiously.

Place was not hard to find very near jama masjid. Wasn't crowded when I visited I ordered shami kabab keema parantha and chicken changesi, Kabab was average, keema parantha was really good but chicken changesi was highly overrated. Quantity was really good and service is also fast but it's a bit pricey. there's a cleanliness issue, flies are flying over food and one customer even saw a cockroach which I think is not a good sign for such famous restaurant.

  • 5/5 The Urban T. 2 years ago on Google
Decent restaurant with quick service facility. You can still sneak in after the shop closes at 11pm and will be served delicious mugalai food. Their khameeri rotis are quite big in size and will be served hot n fresh. Really enjoyed the food. Attaching the menu pics for price comparison. Enjoy your visit and food @Al Jawahar Hotel!! Cheers..

The taste of Chicken dishes were good but it was too oily and greasy. Also for some reason I did not feel like I was eating chicken.. Service is worst and most unhygenic.. the servers were very dirty and not following any safety and hygine.. If you don't eat any other non-veg food other than chicken. I would suggest avoid eating any place near Jama Masjid.

A balance of Masala.....Good and tasty food... proper hygiene and service....A place to visit and taste the Tanduri roti, Butter chicken Kabab and Everything you get here. Do Give a Visit. Most importantly ....price is average. We spend ₹840 for 2 persons and to be true we are more full then ever!!

Lovely food. Most selling dish Chicken Changezi is actually good. There's a lot of other tastier food, however this particular flavour stays with u for a long time. Kheer is just perfect. Dal fry was soooo good. Butter nan is huge. The portion of food is really worth the price. Yes, the staff is a bit rude and not friendly at all. Overall this place and food is much much better than Karim's that I had in my last visit.

Located near Gate no. 1 of Jama Masjid, Al Jawahar Restaurant is an iconic eatery in Delhi. Quick and courteous service is the USP of this place. The delicious Chicken Changezi , evergreen Chicken Qorma , soft and tender Seekh Kebabs accompanied with Romali Roti and Tandoori Roti sums up the gastronomic experience in this place. The prices are reasonable for the quantity they provide. Overall, a must visit place in Delhi.

This place is located in a very crowded area of Jama masjid. The food was good. Had nalli nihari and chicken pulao. Both dishes were great. Mutton was cooked so well in nalli nihari preparation. Chicken pulao was not so good. I felt that the rice was a bit uncooked. Hygiene was not maintained. The wash basin was very unclean.

Today I visited this outlet with my friends we ordered chicken changezi , tandoori chicken & chicken curry . The best thing i found here was their way of catering the customers , also the staff was so quick & agile in serving the dishes & managing other things as well . Talking about the food it was well cooked , like the chicken was so tender & all of the dishes cooked & served are so well-prepared in vivid flavours . I would recommend you guys to please order CHICKEN CHANGEZI with khamiri roti , I'm you'll surely like its taste, All an all we had a nice experience of enjoying brilliantly cooked nonveg food in this world renowned restaurant .

A very famous place for non-veg lovers. I have tried mutton korma with rumali roti and chicken biryani, I think it is little more expensive and over hyped as well, food was ok only, i have went to old daryaganj branch in front of jama masjid. Staff is also very cold

They have 3 floors of seating. Top most floor is meant for families and is relatively cleaner and better decorated. Wash area could be improved. Service is quick. Place is almost always crowded, so there could be waiting. Coming to food, we had khameeri roti and changezi chicken. Both were fantastic. Utensils could be cleaner.
