A calm place. Good to be visited at evenings. Great if you are accompanied by someone. It will be superb to go with friends for a casual hangout. Nice wind and atmosphere. Nothing much to see there.just the ruins present. The story line is nice if you dig deep. Its really interesting to read the panels and evenly on Google if you search. Great experience for a casual time pass as I had to spend an hour or two it was really nice place to be at.

We visited this fort at 9 o’clock and it had no crowd or queue. Entry was 25rs, no card accepted, better carry cash with you. Now about the palace, once you come near to the fort, you travel back in time. Imagine how beautiful this place would be and what all history is associated with it. Hire a tour guide if you can afford and it’s more fun to hear the history rather than reading it. Overall an awesome experience. Highly recommended visit.

Good place for a one time visit. Entry ticket is priced at 25\- for adults and free for kids. They have a view point in the 1st floor of the fort. Try to avoid visiting in the afternoon time as its too hot and the place has limited trees. Parking space is limited too. There are some good restaurants nearby.

A historical place having ruins of Pheshwe rulers. Only the front portion and foundation of the buildings are visible. The ambience is awesome. There are boards indicating the different parts of the palace. The first floor can be reached by climbing steep steps. There is a passage on the fort wall for walking.

Good One of the famous Historical places in Pune Maharashtra... Must Visit. Facing Challenges related to Parking, Very limited parking is there so try to use Local Transport instead of self drive vehicle.

Good historic place at the centre of the city. Whatever the remains have left, they are maintained well inside. It could be promoted and developed even more. The entry fee for Indians is 25 and for foreigners is 300. The atmosphere is calm and ideal for an evening visit.

Main attraction is the entrance place . Rest is open space where people can sit and relax. Parking is a challenge as there is limited space. Better to park beside the river and take a walk to this place

Well I am in pune from last 6 years and never visited this place in past. Well now I am married so thought of nearby place and Google recommended this. Well Its fortunate this this place was so good. I didn't expected this earlier but the beauty inside the wada will win your heart. There is enough points where you can do amazing photo shoot. You can sit in the garden and can enjoy beautiful flowers and this place.

A beautiful place... Worth spending time and a real treat for history lovers 😍... It's like any other fort but the major difference is that it's situated amidst the hustle and bustle of the city😇... Amazing if u go in a big group... And a paradise for photo freaks😅...

A historical place that used to be the home & workplace of Peshwa. Now, Only the foundation and coat wall is there. Everything is well explained on board which is placed in each area like the importance and use of each area. Stone carvings gave evidence of the art of that time. Garden is well maintained. Very neat & clean place.

Beautiful place in the heart of the Pune city. Though being in the centre of the city very calm place.... Must visit at least once. Should have been preserved as heritage. It's part of our national history. Should be preserved as historical monument.

Great piece of History 🔥 Shaniwar Wada in Pune is a historical marvel that takes you back in time. The intricate architecture and imposing walls reflect the grandeur of the Maratha Empire. Exploring the palace grounds, one can sense the rich history and cultural significance of this iconic landmark. However, the maintenance could be better, as some areas show signs of wear and tear. Overall, a must-visit for history enthusiasts, offering a glimpse into Pune's royal past.

This is a very spectacular historical place Constructed before the emergence of British. What amazes me is the brilliant style and design! It is preferred to visit during the day hours so you can get a tour of the entire area. It's very beautiful and relaxing.

You can spend 1-hour max. Much a crowded place. People are not worried about the covid situation. Two-wheeler parking is available. Prefer to go by two-wheelers. Open at 9:30 am and close at 5:30 pm. Charging 25 Rs for Indians. Fort was almost in demolished condition. Need to take care of kids during walking around the wall. Difficult for south people & foreigners. Need guides.

Well parking here is chaotic. Usually on weekends rush would be there. Keep change while going to book tickets. They usually don’t go with Digital one as well. Place is well maintained at few places. You can see people having picnics and all. Surrounded by temples this place is so goood. The view from top is beautiful.

If you are in Pune, I would say do take out some time to visit this beautiful place. The place holds glimpses of history and architecture of that era. You would get to see some of astonishing wooden furniture carvings. There is an amazing garden inside the fort which is quite beautiful and well maintained. I would recommend to spend at least an hour at this place to sit down peacefully and adore the nature. The garden is also a habitat for birds around here. During the weekends it might be a bit crowded but still worth visiting.

I had a wonderful experience here, I learned a lot of new things here which I did not know. This fort was a wonderful sight of the Maratha Empire, which was burnt in 1827, due to which much of the heritage here was destroyed. But whatever is left here looks very good and gives a very pleasant experience and tells a lot of new things.High walls, big doors, tunnels, wells, a palace built by carving big stones. I felt wonderful. Parking is the biggest problem here because I had to wait for almost an hour to park my car.

Commanding a central location, this historical landmark pulsates with the city's energy. While entry times for the inner sanctum are limited, the surrounding courtyard remains open throughout the day, inviting exploration. Hungry visitors can satiate their palates at nearby food joints. Informative boards and banners, along with optional guided tours, shed light on the fascinating past enshrined within these walls. Special celebrations on momentous occasions like Independence Day and Maharashtra Day further enrich the experience.

Shaniwar wada is 18th century fort and has historical importance. Bajirao mastani legacy can be seen here. This fort is well maintained. Located in the busy lanes of Budhwar peth of Pune. Parking is available just outside the Fort. But its better if you go by Cab. Avoid going during peak sun as it becomes very hot. You need to buy entry ticket to visit inside. Washrooms available and enjoy good view of city culture. Study the importance of this place before visiting to get connected. Shaniwar wada is just walkable from Dagduseth temple. Good place for photography lovers. This palace was built by first Bajirao Peshwas in 18th century. Now we can see the ruins of the palace. This is very big palace and built just like fort. People say the it was 7 storey building. But now we can see only ground floor. We can see some ruins of the interiors inside. In front of the wada, we can see very nice statue of first Bajirao Peshwa. Also we can see nice fountain in front of statue. Inside the wada we can see ruins of fountain, horse's place, Nagarkhana (where music was sang when some one royal comes in or some victory is made in war etc.). We can also walk on the wall which has several places where soldiers can take position and attack on outside enemy. There are places where canons were placed to fight. This palace was not just to stay but it has seen many wars during the Peshwas ruling. It has seen many victories as well as losses in wars like major war in Panipat which is historical. You may reach the wada from Pune railway station but more convenient is Shivajinagar railway station from where every 5 minutes there are buses passing by the wada and bus stop is closer to entry. Shaniwarwada is arguably the topmost attraction of Pune City. Pune is considered cultural capital of Maharashtra. Peshwas - the Prime Ministers of Shahu Maharaj (descendent of Great King Shivaji) - expanded the Maratha Kingdom up to Attock in the north. Shaniwarwada was their most celebrated residence. It was built by Peshwa Bajirao in 1732 and had a short lifespan of less than 100 years as it was burnt down in 1828. What remains today inside the fortified walls of this momumental residence is ruins that are witness to its past glory. You can experience that glory even today. All you need is a little bit of imagination and visualisation. There is a huge lawn inside and fountains. There are plaques around explaining what part of this residence stood at that particular place during the reign of Peshwas. Unfortunately all plaques are in Marathi - the local language. A guide is a must. It may be good idea to pick up guide books sold near the entrance, if you are interested in history. Entry fee for Indians is much less than for foreigners. (If you like the review pls like it and share it with your other friends who are planning to visit this place)

Shaniwar Wada Fort is a historic gem that left me in awe. The grandeur and rich history of this architectural masterpiece are truly captivating. The fort's ruins still stand as a testament to its former glory, and exploring its corridors and courtyards takes you back in time. The well-maintained gardens offer a peaceful retreat amidst the historical setting. The informative displays and knowledgeable guides provide valuable insights into the fort's significance. The site is accessible and well-organized, with courteous staff ensuring a pleasant visit.

Its a nice place to visit alone, or with family/friends. People who are more interested in history will enjoy this place a lot. I liked that almost at every place, there is a small board with the information on it about that particular place, but at some places it's broken, they should fix it. I don't know why but the washrooms were shut, I hope this is not the case every time. Don't forget to take an umbrella with you as it's an open place and under direct sun, one can get tired very soon. And keep you token (ticket) safe as if you lost it, you have to pay fine of 100/- 😅

A place rich with history! But sadly not much of the old grandeur is left. Still a great place to visit. You can walk around the entire place from a height and have amazing views from different angles. Entry fee is 50inr for Indians. Open till 6pm. The garden outside is also good. There is no washroom inside.

It's good to go with our family, to spend good time with our family, great place to know our history our culture and cost us 25₹ per person, entry fees, but they should maintain properly our historical place, now it's family garden from inside, and only Doors & Walls are left to see and teach our children, ( like his clothes, weapons, his room ) there is nothing to tell our children like how many people was staying in Shaniwar Wada, guard, horse, elephant, war items, about his family or any Old pictures how Shaniwar Wada look like before, nothing, now only left is the Walls and Doors.

This place has a rich chapter in Maratha Empire history. Most of the structures are destroyed now. But the remains are beautiful. But I feel like this place could have been maintained better. Security guards are very less. The ticket collection system could have been made way better. Management issues are there within the staff whenever there's a big crowd. Ticket prices are as follows, below 15 years Indian nationals don't need tickets. For above 15 years Indian nationals have to pay 25 rupees. Foreign nationals need to pay 300 rupees.

Great relic from Indian history! Decently kept by PMC, but no washroom access even though a few is collected. The security were more busy doing tourist footfall counts than their job. It would be a good idea to have good washrooms and more seating arrangements considering high footfall. Also more informative boards describing history can be put into action so that people not visiting on Sunday too can know the in depth history of the place. On Sundays there is a sound and light show.

In the middle of the hustle and bustle of the market town is an ancient fort, known as one of the most haunted places in India. We visited here in October 2021, when tourism had only just resumed post-pandemic. Keep to the right on the road to Shaniwar Wada, which is a one-way. You might miss the entry if you're not careful. It is just close to the curve on the road. Things to know: 1. Ample parking inside- free- parking. 2. Entry fee- 25 INR. It is given in the form of a token, like the ones used in Metro. 3. Take a walk on the walls of the fort, which is steeped in stories of the time past. However, the climb to the wall is a rather steep set of stairs, not recommended for the elderly or people with knee troubles. The walls DO NOT have high walls, so if you have a fear of heights, or if you're travelling with kids, be extremely cautious. 4.The view from the walls toward the inside of the fort is a sprawling Mughal styled garden. This is the place where a 7-storied building once stood tall and majestic with its 1000 inhabitants. It was completely gutted down in a fire, claiming the many lives. Here the ruins alone remain. 5. It's a beautiful walk, steeped in culture, amidst the noise of the bustling city. The ambience and the silence is eerie if you visit here in the evening. 6. There might have a light show, which is yet to resume post-pandemic. 7. It a place worth visiting to reminisce the time of the brave Peshwas.

A must visit place here in Pune. Entry fees for Indians is ₹25 per head and for foreigners it is on higher side. Washroom are available inside but most of the time it is closed. If you feel hungry then there is no option inside the premises but you will get many food outlets outside. It is commuteable very easily, even govt city buses are run on this route from railway station.

It's one of the best place to click photos 📸 which is the best part I felt because I click lots of photos 😊(kind of interest in me & my love 💞 ). You feel calm because of the surrounding trees, and greenery. Whenever a new person comes to Pune 🏙️ the 1st place suggested to visit is Shanivarwada.🏰 One of the well-known historical places in Pune. There is an entry ticket 🎟️I don't remember (might be 20/25 Rupees ), you can carry your luggage 🧳with your self. Lots of Historical things are there to see which is quite interesting. Many Visitors Come here Daily but there is a rush during weekends. Well Maintained and cleaned.🧹 Here Parking Facility is somewhat chaotic.😤

Shaniwarwada is a historical fortification in the city of Pune in Maharashtra, India. Built in 1732, it was the great seat of the Peshwas of the Maratha Empire until 1818. Following the rise of the Maratha Empire, the palace became the center of Indian politics in the 18th century. Shaniwar Wada a 13 storey palace of Peshwas was built by Bajirao-I, in the year 1736.It was head quarter of the Peshwas and it symbolizes Pune’s culture. The structure was built giving security the highest priority. The main entrance is known as ‘Delhi Darwaja’ & others have names like Ganesh, Mastani, Jambhal, Khidki. The statue of Bajirao-i on horse in front of Shniwarwada. In side one can see Ganesh Mahal, Rang Mahal, Aarsa Mahal, Hasti_Dant Mahal, Diwan Khana and fountain. A light and music show is conducted every day showing history of Peshwas. The palace was the seat of Peshwa power and later was destroyed by a fire in 1828. All that remails are the walls that fortified this palace, with sturdy doors, studded with spikers for added protection

We went on weekday afternoon. It was crowded and the atmosphere was very hot. We got tired just by climbing the stairs 4-5 times. It's worth the visit if you know the history or when you are interested in history. Otherwise you can just walk, have fun with your mates, click pictures because there is nothing much to see. Parking is limited. Entry is 25rs for Indians. 300rs for foreigners. Free entry for kids.

A place to visit in Pune to know the history of the city better. The entry fee is 20 rupees and can get crowded by lunch and on holidays. So try to plan this place before it gets sunny and crowded. It takes max 1 hr to visit as there is very less of the main structure remaining after the Great fire.

Shaniwar Wada is a historical gem that transports you back in time with its intricate architecture and rich history. The imposing fort and its lush gardens create a serene atmosphere, perfect for a stroll and contemplation. However, some areas could benefit from better maintenance. Overall, a must-visit for history enthusiasts and a glimpse into Pune's glorious past. Additionally, I'd recommend implementing safety measures, especially on the narrow walkway atop the wall. Installing safety grills along the boundary could prevent accidental falls, as the wall height is approximately 1 foot, posing a potential risk. Enhancing safety infrastructure would contribute to a more secure and enjoyable experience for visitors.

While you are visiting Pune attractions, Shanivar Wada Palace is a must see attraction. As much as it is known for its verifiable significance it is likewise known for its spookiness. For the perplexing, Teak was foreign from the wildernesses of Junnar, Stones were brought from Chinchwad and Limestone from the belts of Jejuri. There is also a light and sound show held here every evening.

Nothing much to see here. It is very crowded. Token system is maintained for entry mostly to prevent littering of paper tickets. Token charge was Rs 25/- and the charge for losing the token was Rs 100/-. There are boards spread around with brief history about the place. We saw a few Green Asian Bee Eaters and Sunbirds here. Luckily we had our binoculars on us. Bee eater was very busy hunting dragon flies and we also witnessed it smash a dragon fly on the bark and swallow it.

If you are in pune and wants to something historical. This Is the place for you. They promote it as most haunted place but nothing like that. You can explore the place in like 2 hours. Awesome food outside this waiting for you. NOTE: Carry a water bottle with you.

It's an average place, I didn't feel anything special. Just one entry gate and a few lawns of grass and steps are there. In fact I just don't even enter the fort. Just from the entry gate climb the stairs and take a walk around the fort fence and watch It from above it looks better from there and also there would be less crowd. On weekends it's crowded. The ticket price is 25rs.

It is an awesome place to enjoy with friends and families!! It has beautiful garden well maintained with good photos spots. And there's a historical fort like structure around in which we can walk around peacefully.A good location to go. If one does not have much time to go, this location, which is in the middle of the city, might be added to the itinerary. A glimpse of the huge Peshawas is provided by the fort. The palace inside was destroyed by firell It is an awesome place to enjoy with friends and families!! It has beautiful garden well maintained with good photos spots. And there's a historical fort like structure around .

Mostly on weekends this place is crowded and you won't get enough time to process all the information. So I will recommend going there on week days. Also, I noticed there were photographers to make your trip memorable so go for it instead of taking your pictures on your mobile phone and ruin the moment.

This place is good but very less attention given on maintenance. People here also doing same thing walking all over the place, through the garden even though steps are given. So i feel unless there are police we as an Indian would never realize our mistakes. Second the most important piece is buying tickets, it is 25 rupees and you must have exact change. Only cash no UPI and if you don’t the ticket person would make faces and yell at you. He would say we are not here to give you change. My job is not that and many bad stuff. He will make your start a painful one. Please have 25 or do not go. Overall i would say inside of the place is good. You have tress where you could sit. Please please keep the place clean and keep the environment plastic free. Be responsible. Enjoy but do not destroy.

If you're enthusiastic about Maharashtra and Pune's history, it's a must visit. The architecture is wonderful for its era, and the maintenance and cleanliness is good. Though the vendors there might not accept UPI, so carry change if you want to eat / drink something there. The parking was chaotic when I visited on the weekends and there's a lot of people visiting during the active hours. The view of everything from the top is ecstatic. A must visit for Punekars. Happy holidays! ✌️

There are many of other sightseeing which you can visit instead of this old castle. Furthermore the ticket cost 300INR for foreign people and 25(!) for local people. I have no proplem with the value, because the cost is not high, but I find it ridiculous that there is a so big difference. In Europe you cannot find such a principal...

Decent place. Just like a normal garden inside the Wada. All other section was made up of wood. Just need to maintain the historical place for which they are charging the money. They need to develop it for tourist.

A very beautiful place, visit only during early mornings or when the crowd is less. Also don't misplace your token coin. You'll have to pay extra 100 rupees. Try hiring a local guide, he may charge 150 rupees but it's totally worth it or else you'll just be left loitering in the premises of this palace. The local guide will tell you about the legends about the palace and why the doors were named the way they were. The backstory of how the various gates were used. The geographical significance etc.

Place is famous but it's only wall around the fort that is left no other rooms one can see oly all stones foundation only. This place is also known as most honted place in pune. There is an old story associated where there is a muder and the victim voice can be heard even today. The place Maintained by archeological survey of India and entry fees is 25 rupees one can also book online ticket. Foreigners have to pay extra. Overall all well known place in Pune but need government attension and redevelopment need to done.

I had a very very worst experience in Pune. All people here are pathetic they don't have manners how to treat or talk to new people in town. Its 25 rs for indians as a entry fee and 300 rs for foreigners. And if you want to take camera inside then 50 rs more. Nothing to see inside either then couples sitting in every corner and doing time pass. Only there is some show on every Sunday explaining the story of peshwa bajirao saheb.

A visit to Shaniwar Wada gives a great glimpse into the glorious past of Marathas. While much of the internal structures are broken, strong external walls and grand entry gives goosebumps. Also outline of the buildings which once stood there, tell us how Maratha worriors lived as a community. It becomes clear that these Giant walls and multiple chowki posts on all corners were always guarded by vigilant soldiers. Common dining place, water reservoir and houses of key generals are also clearly outlined.

The Shaniwar vada palace is really huge but the sad part is there are just few remains of the chambers of the peshwas due to the massive fire that burnt the palace in the 19th century. There are few plates which mention details about the peshwas, their rooms, their courts, the cost of building the palace etc. Many huge trees are present in the palace. The cost of visiting is Rs 25 for one adult However the maintenance is not that proper inside the vada Many information plates are missing Some buildings and structures are unmarked and there's no information available on it The light and sound show is not available since lockdown

If you're in Pune and don't visit Shaniwar Wada then you're doing an injustice to yourself. This is one of the most popular landmarks in Pune and known for the 'Peshwai' as it was the great seat of Peshwas until 1818. This wada was a residential palace and a hub where various events used to take place. You will find it as a garden when you enter this beautiful wada and the building comprises of several rooms. A must visit site if you love history and historical architecture.

It is a historic place, however broken and destroyed by the Britishers. We can still visit and learn a few things and it's always good to experience rather than just reading. Parking is a big problem and will spoil your entire visit. I suggest using a cab to visit this place instead of going by your own vehicle. Also tickets should be available online and online payment should be allowed.

Shaniwar Wada is actually a beautiful structure with rich history and definitely worth a visit. However the maintenance of the structure is not great. Many areas of the the heritage structure are neglected and unfortunately the tourism potential is overlooked like many other heritage structures in India. Also, it there's a weird 'rule' (like so many other places) that you can take pictures on a phone but can't use a 'camera' to take a picture at the place! This is 2023 if I'm not mistaken! Hope we learn how to showcase our heritage structures to the world!

It's a famous historical fortification situated in the heart of the city. This fort belonged to the Peshwas. The structure is built with a mix of stones and bricks. One can find it out by observing closely. The seven storey fort was destroyed by the British, and later by an unexplained fire. Only the walls remain straight today. You can still explore the foundation of the fort which gives an idea of what all the fort contained. There are description boards kept at different places inside the fort explaining the architecture. You can also climb up the wall and walk around the fort.

And there's a historical fort like structure around in which we can walk around peacefully.A good location to go. If one does not have much time to go, this location, which is in the middle of the city, might be added to the itinerary. A glimpse of the huge Peshawas is provided by the fort.

Unless you know the story and relate to it, or you have someone to explain there is no point in entering inside. The vaada is all broken and only ruins remains.. The most grand thing there is the grand gate which is visible from outside also. Park your vehicle in the parking only .

  • 1/5 Jay B. 2 months ago on Google New
Derelict and dirty. Even though there's an entry fee, it's not maintained at all. All the corners n crevices were full of plastic n leftovers. Garden hoses were also not kept aligned. The trees n shrubs were dry while water was spreading on grass n walkways creating further muck. Nothing much to see inside. Very disappointed. There was an old carriage which was rotting in the garden. Wish it was restored n displayed to show the lost glory. Its a huge shame how a living proof of rich Maratha history is in ruins. Please use the money collected in tickets sale to first clean it and then restore whatever is left of it. Was disappointed and heartbroken to see it being left to ruin.

There is a parking spot available about a km away so we can park there but then have to come back by taking a rickshaw. Ticket has to be purchased online at the spot using a Barcode Scan. Ticket cost for adults is ₹20/- whereas for kids below 15 years of age it is free. The garden inside is beautiful. One can walk along the walls. The place has few very photogenic spots. Signboards mentioning few historical details are properly placed at important spots.
