We spent 3 hours at the Mont and made it to the top... but it is a lot of stairs up and down when you are there and even more in the Abbey. We could have spent longer, but we were on a schedule. It is one of those places that you have to see to understand and get the picture of how people had to live here. My suggestion is to be there at opening. We were there at opening and had a great parking spot and caught the second shuttle, so the wait was very short. As we were leaving, 3 hours later, there were so many people coming up that it was difficult to get down the "ramp" through the shops and to the exit gate. This would be an extremely difficult place to visit with kids who need strollers and aren't used to climbing stairs. Parents need to be prepared to carry their kids, if they get tired. We had our tickets when we got there and it made it really easy. We were moved in the abbey entrance into the building, and people without tickets had to go wait in another area to purchase their tickets. The bathrooms at the visitor center near the shuttle loading entrance are free and nice. The people T the visitor center can also give you your map and Abbey ticket too, which will make it much faster when you get to the Mont.

Amazing place. Definitely worth the hassle to visit. Go early in the day to cut down on the inevitable crowds of tourists. This is a unique and beautiful place, a UNESCO World Heritage site after all - so it is crowded every day. Thousands of stairs to climb, so wear comfortable shoes... but the experience is unforgettable. It would be awesome to stay the night in a hotel on the island. Park in the large visitor center parking lots, take the free bus from there. It will be packed full as soon as it leaves the first stop, so forget about the second and third stops, just walk back to the visitor center and take it from there, or just walk out to the Abbey. The bus drops you off a couple hundred meters from the island anyway. There is a kennel at the visitor center with five cheap spaces for your dogs, so get there early for one of those. The Abbey is no place for a dog, they would hate the crowds and there aren't any green spaces outside of the Abbey itself, where dogs aren't allowed. Lots of restaurants and souvenir shops. The memories of this place will last a lifetime.

Visiting Mont Saint-Michel in France was a dream come true! It's absolutely magnificent! I was in awe as I approached this formidable masterpiece. It's a beautiful combination of Gothic and Romanesque architecture. I'm so thankful I took the extra couple hundred steps to reach the Abbey!! It's a very steep climb outside over cobblestone. Challenging to navigate in the rain. Wear comfortable shoes and make sure you are in good physical shape to make the trek to the top! I do not recommend climbing if you have mobility issues. The views are spectacular! It's super cool to be looking down and seeing ourselves surrounded by quicksand and water. There are plenty of other things to do there if you decide not to wonder the Abbey. Charming restaurants and adorable shops line the pathways. Plan on spending at least 2-3 hours there. I loved every minute of this mini pilgrimage!!

Simply the best place to visit in France. The history behind it, the views, the little town, everything is breathtaking. Best to go early in the morning so you are not rushing your way through the tour, it can take you a good 3 hours to see the whole thing.

This is a must see! Tickets should be bought in advance to enter into the Abbey part of the fortress. Even if you didn’t get tickets to go inside the Abbey, you can walk the entire perimeter of the wall and around the grounds. There are lots of shops and restaurants on the grounds as well. Crepes, coffee, and lots of souvenirs. This is well worth the trek out to see it!

Very well organised parking and shuttle bus to the island. It has been beautifully restored and kept. Very busy, but to be expected with such a stunning landmark. Going as early as possible would be the best - although still very busy, it is absolutely doable. Highly recommend a visit!

When you see the place from distance it is breath taking. Also when you enter, you can not stop thinking who had the idea to built it and it seems impossible to understand how they did it 1000 years ago. It is something you will need to see once in your life. Also amazing views from above.

Beautiful Abbey and well preserved history of pilgrimage. Very well worth a half day trip out which is accessible by a free bus from the car park or you can walk the 2km to the castle. Lots of lovely food places on route to top up your energy. Very busy location!

Definitely a place to see! Really lovely and spectacular, but boy it's crazy with tourists! A little piece of Disneyland! The best part was seeing it from the shore. Being on the island is crowded and touristic and not as fun. Still worthwhile, for sure, especially walking around the ramparts, but it feels just a little too touristic. Lots of restaurants and souvenir shops. But I'd recommend seeing it at both low and high tide. It's really spectacular that way.

What a fantastic place to visit. Park up, get the bus and take ya time. We pre booked the Abbey with audio guide. This helped us See the ramparts, visit the shops (although all quite similar) see the museum. Shade yourself on steps. Note there are free toilets you don't have to pay 1€. 11€ to get in the Abbey but what a history. We were there 5 hours easily.

Never thought such place exist. The whole structure is magnificent, even in winter. Can't drive all the way so you need to park your car at the designated parking lot. There's a free shuttle, or you can decide to walk about 1km from parking to Mont Saint Michel. There are shops, restaurants and hotels in the village so you might want to consider staying a night for the experience. A must visit for all.

Beautiful place, a great sense of history about the island. Kids loved the old style feel about the town. Signs for parking were a bit deceptive, follow the road around, not straight on (it will make sense when you are there). Shuttle bus was a godsend, its a long walk from the car park to the island.

Impressive! Beyond words! It would have been a more pleasant experience if there were more buses available. 40 min walk to the site under a scorching sun and 40 min walking back to the parking lot took a heavy tribute from us

This cathedral-prison-castle with its 3 different types of architecture - Roman, Gothic and Classical, made for a really interesting day at this place. It helped that I was on a guided tour and the guide kindly pointed out all the different aspects of the architecture, as well as explaining the 1200 years of history of this place beginning from 710AD on the beginnings of the cathedral (and how the place got its name) till 1905 when the gold sculpture of St Michael was added onto the steeple of the cathedral. The best time to visit would be in Spring-Summer when the tides are low and the lighting is good.

A truly beautiful place, the abbey is stunning even if you have little to no interest in religion. Be warned it is very much a tourist trap. Prices for everything is sky high except €4.50 for a can of drink... There are lots of steps and Access is limited so bear this in mind if you have limited mobility.

Need to visit to appreciate its historic value and beauty. I’d recommend staying at least one night or 2 ideally to appreciate the atmosphere at night and to also get an early start on the tour at the abbey as once the day visitors come by the bus loads, you may not get an intimate experience in silence and with uninterrupted views. You can also take your time and spend some time really reading and or listening to the Audio tour as well as you won’t feel rushed.

Magical historic place. Almost unreal, Disney like😊Especially from outside/afar, very impressive. On the inside initially a bit commercial. Further in more relaxed and original. Unfortunately, the Abbey was closed when we got there

I hadn't been there since I was little and this parking with shuttle is very nice. The only day of good weather in the week, it starts to get crowded around midday. If you like peace and quiet it is better to go there in the morning. Visit to the abbey with the tablet, very popular.

Traveled by road to this unique World Heritage Site offering a glimpse into the history with stunning views of ocean surrounding it. Perhaps it was winter so the crowds were thin but nonetheless a mesmerizing view. Had a chance to witness live choir. Memorable.

Our journey to Mont Saint Michel was made even more magical by spending the night at one of the cozy inns nestled within the island's walls. As the sun dipped below the horizon, the abbey and surrounding buildings were bathed in a golden glow, creating a truly unforgettable atmosphere. Exploring the island at night was an experience like no other. The narrow cobblestone streets were illuminated by the soft glow of lanterns, casting enchanting shadows on the ancient stone walls. With fewer tourists around, we felt like we had the island all to ourselves, free to wander and soak in the quiet beauty of the night. The abbey itself took on an ethereal quality under the moonlight, its towering spires reaching up to the sky as if reaching for the stars. Inside, the hushed whispers of history seemed to echo through the halls, adding to the sense of mystery and wonder. And then there was the tide. Watching the sea creep closer under the cover of darkness, only to recede again with the rhythm of the moon, was a sight that filled us with awe and wonder. Spending the night at Mont Saint Michel was an experience we'll never forget. It's a place where the magic of the past meets the beauty of the present, and where every moment feels like a dream come true.

Well organized to handle the vast numbers of tourists who come here. The shuttle from the car park is free. However, even though it was not as busy a day (mid-week, off-season) there was a 20 minute wait to get on. From the Mont to return was a nearly 30 minute wait. Entering the Mont St. Michel is free, but to enter the cathedral at the top is 11€pp. This was a huge check on my bucket list. It was would absolutely marvelous to see this place with few people, but since 3 million people visited the place last year I don't think it possible.

+++ Wonderful city with the sea all around . An interesting abbey on the top (have to pay 11€ for the visit) and a cute village down with some shops and restaurants. A monument full of history and as same time an enjoying moment to share with family or with ur lovely.

Very long wait for the shuttles! Complicated with children! In the open wind! No shelter!

One of my favourite places in the world. Have been several times over the years and it is truly stunning. Make sure to visit at night as well - a beautiful spectacle. Can no longer park nearby as the French government had to make drastic changes how people visited to ensure the ecosystem remains balanced. The walk is a good 2-3 miles from the car park but you can get a shuttle bus - have never done so check pricing before you go. Definitely a must visit.

What a lovely place, so cool how it's built upon the rock and how to access it with the tide. Worth going up all the way and even on the beach around it! They have some good restaurants and funny souvenirs!

It is so beautiful!!!! The architecture, the vibe, everything!!🥰🥰😍😍✨✨❤️❤️ but I would really suggest going there on a weekday or even a Saturday because it wouldn’t be soo crowded- if you want to click some beautiful pictures of the streets/place. It was too crowded on Sunday😅 but the experience was good!

We traveled from Paris to St. Michael's Mountain, but we never regretted doing so. Parking is roomy with prices for all pockets. The mountain can be reached by special buses that will leave you in front of the castle. We chose to walk even if it is a bit longer to walk ... so we could see everything and enjoy the views around. The entrance to the mountain is not paid ... you can also enter the castle yard with dogs. Inside you will find food, drinks, souvenirs, icons ... it is a bit crowded but it is worth visiting the favorite place on earth of Saint Michael.

This place was in my bucket list for a long time! Finally had a chance and opportunity to see it last week. Indeed this place is beautiful, awesome, mesmerising and even intimidating (on a lighter note) to some extent. On a sunny day coupled with high tide, this place can become a dream place to see, witness and live those moments. Wont write much about the place as one would get a lot of info about it however I would like to say this is a good place to visit and experience it. There is ample parking space (charged) and once you get out of the parking place you have 3 options to reach the foot steps of Mont Saint-Michel. i) By walk (Strongly suggest to take this if you can as it gives a wide different angles at which you can stare at MS-M. And if its sunny, you are lucky. ii) By bus (free) & iii) By Chariot (paid). Do visit the Abbey at top (Tickets to be bought) to witness the architecture and think about how it could have been built at such a place. The view from the top is also beautiful too.

This place is so amazing that I wish I'd scheduled more time for us here. I would've liked to stay long enough to see the tide come in. If I ever get to go back, I think I will schedule an overnight at one of the hotels right on the island. Wear good, comfortable, stable shoes. Lots of steps and a relatively steep cobblestone/cement walk up to the abbey. It was very crowded getting up to the abbey but they time entrance to keep it from being too overcrowded inside the abbey itself

A great place to visit, it overlooks the lands around it. Accessing the town around the castle is free. However, if you want to explore the churches and the halls of the castle you need to pay €11 as the date of this comment. It is an interesting place to visit and you do feel the peace in some of its parts. I recommend you to visit and explore this historic site.

Words are not enough to describe the magic this place beholds. It is magical, it is mystical. I was enchanted with the beauty of this place. It was one of the most beautiful places I have ever been to. If you are in France/Normandy then make sure you visit this place, I promise you will not be disappointed.

Cultural rich place to visit. It is a medieval fortification of monks that was used as a place to meditate. The view is amazing and there are also local dishes. It is the real castle of Disneyland. Entrance price 11 euros. Good also for campers and people that like some countryside

Stunning from the moment you see it. Lovely walk (there is a bus if you don't want to walk). Inside it's very busy and touristy Tons of souvenirs shops and Cafe. But everything is good value. Try the Normandy coffee!

A must visit place. I recommend the guided tour with 11 Euro, but you need to reserve it through their official website. Otherwise, you can also reserve an audio-guided ticket or just buy it from the ticket office at the entrance . Also, it worth to stay at one of the hotels at the Saint Michel area. The area is very quiet and peaceful. The main attraction is old Abbey at the top of mountain. So, there will be a lot of stairs to walk.

  • 5/5 Kristian K. 1 year ago on Google
Beautiful site. Great scenery. Very touristic but well organized. However, this must be an extremely crowded and a better-to-avoid place during summer holidays. Late autumn, winter, early spring are fine I guess.

  • 5/5 Darya M. 9 months ago on Google
Beautiful site, completely amazing to see. Parking very well sign posted, and there's plenty of it. We visited with our 7 month old baby - the walk from the car park to the Mont was easy, and we did some brief exploring in the non step areas. One point to note is that you can't use the accessible car park if you have a baby - which we found odd, as we found this to be the norm everywhere else.

  • 5/5 NO N. 9 months ago on Google
Amazing! So worth the trip! So many beautiful buildings and an amazing view. Completely packed with tourists but that was to be expected I guess. I was surprised by all the souvenir shops and restaurants inside. Thought it would be protected by its historical significans. But it kind of made the city come to life so I won't complain.

  • 5/5 Robert O. 8 months ago on Google
Well worth the visit if you are in the area. Get the free shuttle bus to and from the car park - saves a 40 min walk each way and definitely do a tour of the Abbey. It’s the best thing to do here and it’s a great sight!

  • 5/5 Dallas T. 8 months ago on Google
Great place to visit, looks like a magic kingdom from afar. Even more spectacular up close. If you like lamb you have to try their signature dish. The lamb eats the salted grass making the meat a pre salted, amazing!!!

THIS IS A MUST VISIT PLACE. just wow !!! Easy to reach by shuttle bus from the parking spot. Don't miss this it's breathing. And the Abby for 11 euro is worth it all. No need to by ticket in advance
