This place is way to expensive for a single ticket. Locals get a discount but even then it’s still pricey. Foreigners pay R$140 which is way over the top for the exhibit! There were not very many tanks and the main tank was pretty dirty too. I was very disappointed. My biggest frustration was how many people were let in during this pandemic. It was extremely crowded and I was shoulder to shoulder with a lot of people. They didn’t appear to be sanitizing much and the glass was really dirty from kids hands. I wouldn’t recommend this place.

As a marine biology enthusiast, I can't begin to explain how good the overall experience felt. Certainly worth a visit. The sea tunnel is simply stunning. You also have options to buy souvenirs as well. I would recommend you buy the tickets online rather than at the site.

This was the perfect place to spend a few hours during a rainy day in Rio de Janeiro. This aquarium has hundreds of different species of marine creatures from all around the globe. I especially liked that you can find "education spots" next to almost every display. The entrance is a bit over 100 BRL for foreign visitors, worth it if you are into animals or of you want to take nice pictures.

Having been to several of the world's best aquariums, and many lackluster ones as well, AquaRio falls closer to the low end in terms of collection while the higher-than-average cost of admission further compromises the experience. Impressive at first, a kid-friendly foyer followed by invertebrates and eels, it is after only a few more tanks that the shark-filled centerpiece arrives - a quick trip through the tank's tube followed by a "surf museum," gift shop and exit. The whole thing can be seen in 30-45 minutes.

It's a very beautiful and new aquarium but for the price of the entrance and the cost of the taxi to get there, I was expecting something a bit more exciting. If traveling with small children, it's a great place to visit. However, I've been to many acquariums in the states that I felt were better (Boston, Seattle, even the one in the Mall of America felt more impressive). Perhaps there will be other exhibits in the future? There is a wax museum on site as well, but we didn't check it out, as you have to pay an additional fee. The major plus for us was multiple bathrooms and they were all very clean.

I cannot say enough awesome things about this place. The staff was knowledgeable, courteous, friendly, helpful, and all around fantastic. The critters are well loved and you can tell. All precautions were adamantly maintained. We held lemurs y'all. Lemurs. Anytime I come back this will be on the visit list. Four hours felt like five minutes.

The aquarium was a nice blend of hands on and visual. As a reef enthusiast, i was a bit disappointed with that aspect of the aquarium. However, my daughter had a blast feeding the turtles and the sting rays. The place is showing some age and wear. Overall its worth a visit.

It is well maintained although very small, the main attraction is the large tank with sharks and transparent tube which allows an alternative view of the aquarium.

Not sure how this is rated so high. Was an okay visit we spent about an hour here and saw everything, visited on a Friday and it was pretty busy and hard to see the tanks. Very expensive as a foreigner paid R$150 each for entry and not worth the price.

I had the worst experience at this aquarium! There were way too many people, and it was impossible to take photos or enjoy the exhibits properly. We waited for 30 minutes just to enter the 360-degree tunnel, and in the end, we couldn't even get a single decent photo. This is undoubtedly the worst aquarium in the world. It was a complete waste of time and money. The overcrowding ruined any chance of a peaceful visit, and I'm deeply disappointed with the overall experience. I won't be returning, and I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. They need to manage their crowd and improve the visitor experience ASAP. Not only was the experience terrible, but the price was outrageously high too! We had to shell out 300 Brazilian reais (equivalent to 60 euros), which is exorbitant for what we got. I expected so much more for that kind of money. This aquarium is an absolute rip-off, and I feel like I've been scammed. It's unbelievable how they can charge so much for such a disappointing visit. Save your money and find a better attraction to spend your hard-earned cash on. This place is a complete letdown in every way possible.

The biggest aquarium in South America. The facility is organized and clean. When we went there on public holiday, even before opening time, there was short queue to enter. We watched many kinds kinds of marine species. It took around 1 hour to see all exhibits.

Although a bit too crowded at times, it's a good place to visit if you're in Rio de Janeiro on vacations. Many specimens of marine fauna on display with descriptive details nearby. Some food and memorabilia also available.

An amazingly beautiful place, feels like you are one of those underwater creatures. There is a cute mermaid saying goodbye as you leave, take a notice) I also loved music on the background, so calming that there is nothing to distract you ( but many people ahah)

(Translated by Google) We saw an AquaRio stand at the Pátio Batel mall in Curitiba. At the same time I promised my fiancee that I would take her. A year later we were in one of the best aquariums in the world. The best adjective is: "Animal!". Extremely well organized, it seems that we are in the big aquariums in the USA. Amazing! Adjectives are missing. We will definitely be back. It's a pity to be the only one in Brazil in these standards. São Paulo well deserved something like that. Faltam adjetivos. Sem dúvida voltaremos. Pena ser o único do Brasil nestes padrões. São Paulo bem que merecia algo assim.

This is a pretty SMALL aquarium! We went through it in 1 hour, checking all live exhibits (there are other informative exhibits, without fish, that we didn't check out). What other reviews claim about its large size ("biggest in South America" etc.) is either false or irrelevant - I've seen much large aquariums in Monterrey, San Francisco, Sydney etc. You don't need more than 2 hours in any case, even if you spend time at the surf museum within, and the gift shop. It's also expensive - USD 30. By comparison, the Museum of Tomorrow 1km away is only USD 5. That said, there's a nice walk-through glass tunnel through a large aquarium with sharks and other big fish, and one cool exhibit with eels. Some other colorful fish too.

(Translated by Google) I was at the Aquarium Monday morning. Super empty at that time. The whole circuit with totems of alcohol gel and by the time it was very simple to maintain a safe distance. There are some sectors that are closed because of the pandemic but it does not affect the tour in any way. The circuit is beautiful, it has monitors that explain about the species of each sector and we can take pictures at will, only respecting the rule of NO using flash. (Original) Estive no Aquário segunda de manhã. Super vazio nesse horário. O circuito todo com totens de álcool gel e pelo horário foi muito simples manter uma distância de segurança. This was a disappointment. Seems like they rushed to open. Half off the exhibits are covered. Alot of the same fish from tank to tank. You can be done in 20 minutes. Takes longer to walk through gift shop at the end. Not worth the price, especially if you don't live in Rio.

Very well organised, at the time of writing a vaccination certificate is required. Was very quiet as it's still low season. Several discount prices available, I'm a foreigner with permanent residence and one foot in the grave which brought the price down by R$30. Helpful staff though not sure how much English was spoken. Start at the top and work downwards.

If you have kids, you have to come. They’re so excited to see the sea creatures and it’s amazing. Honestly, I though it was bigger. But I know they are expanding, and even though the ticket is a bit pricey, they use the funds for research and sea life preservation, so win win.

Clean, nice people, but not a "wow" aquarium. I was expecting a Henry Doorly Zoo aquarium or a Springfield aquarium, but it was not that... plus quite expensive to get in for a foreigner... that being said they did sell beer in the aquarium which I liked. Took us ~30 minutes to get through the whole thing. NOT a must see for Rio

Nice to see, but too expensive for what it is. Staff is rude and does not care to control the flow of people, making certain places overcrowded. I also experienced a family with autistic child and instead of making sure that the child could enjoy the day out, the family was rushing through trying to avoid the crowded tunnel. For tourists a waist of time and money, you would be better off going to sea world in Portugal or Berlin.

Not really worth the price. The aquarium is quite small, we visited it all in less than an hour going pretty slowly and checking details of each tank. They have a few nice tanks though.

Very good for South American standards, the photos u get taken by professionals at entrance are fun and nice, but too expensive for what it is. If it was around 50 reais, it'd be ok.

We arrive at 3:00 pm and we leave at 4:50 pm. We were a bit tired but still pass to every tank we saw. The biggest tank was amazing with more than 800 type of aquatic life. There is a section that I enjoy the most which is one of the pictures I’m sharing (the one with a face like fish-frog) that was amazing! I enjoy too much aquarium and this one was not the best but still great to visit.

If you've been to a really good aquarium, you probably won't like this one much. It's okay, but the tanks seem small and the sea life doesn't look well cared for. The shark eggs were cool, but that was about it. I don't recommend going unless this is your only opportunity to go to an aquarium. The wax museum was almost as good as the aquarium, even though it only had about 20 wax people.

Cool aquarium, lots of different species and they look well taken care of, it's for sure a fun activity for kids and adults alike. We went there on a rainy day but if the weather is good and you're in Rio for a couple days I'd skip it, this is an activity just in case the weather is not favorable.

They have a decent aquarium. It’s a little expensive for tickets, but we loved the sharks and piranha’s. It’s annoying how they act like it’s required that you have to take the pictures when you don’t want to at the beginning before entering the aquarium. Buy tickets in advance online so you don’t have to wait in line to buy them. I took away one star because the photo sales girls are some of the most OBNOXIOUS and predatory people. They laugh and go “oh my gosh how beautiful” when looking at your photos in such an obviously fake voice that it’s almost insulting. They explained that it’s a high price for the photos and then my wife asked how much for just 1 or two photos and they TRIPLED the price. We didn’t buy just because it was an obvious scam.

Here an Illustration: To pay for AquaRio is worse, than crypto investments falling to zero and below. (btw. I do not even know, how this feels, but i assume it feels like that.) The only great thing about these plantless boring fish in these tanks is the agony you feel during the trip. Take care. I feel like the cute ray on the following photo:

The Marine Aquarium of Rio de Janeiro (Portuguese: Aquário Marinho do Rio de Janeiro), or AquaRio, is a public aquarium located in the Gamboa neighborhood, in the port zone of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. With a constructed area of about 26,000 square metres (280,000 sq ft), it is located to the west of Muhammad Ali Square. It is considered the largest marine aquarium in South America. It was inaugurated on October 31, 2016, in a ceremony that was attended by the former minister of Tourism, Marx Beltrão. The public aquarium was made at Porto Maravilha, an urban operation that aims to revitalize the Port Zone of Rio de Janeiro. The building occupied by AquaRio has a total of 5 floors and 28 tanks with various types of fish. In the tanks, about 4.5 million liters of salt water are stored, in addition to 8 thousand animals of 350 different species. The building formerly belonged to Companhia Brasileira de Armazenamento (Cibrazem), now Companhia Nacional de Abastecimento (CONAB). AquaRio brings together about 8,000 animals from 350 different species from all oceans. Among the main species present in the aquarium are: the nurse shark (Ginglymostoma cirratum); the whitetip reef shark (Triaenodon obesus); the blacktip reef shark (Carcharhinus melanopterus); and the sand tiger shark (Carcharias taurus). The fish are distributed in 28 enclosures, which gather a total of 4.5 million liters of salt water. In addition to the visit to the tanks, AquaRio allows the visitor to perform the following additional activities, subject to charge separately: "Sleeping in AquaRio", where the visitor can spend a night in the tunnel that passes in the middle of the Great Ocean Tank; the "Diving of the Ocean Tank", where the visitor can dive into one of the tanks;  the "Virtual Fish", where the visitor can create a virtual friend at the beginning of the tour and interact with him along the circuit; "Behind the Scenes", where the visitor can see up close the equipment that treat the water of the enclosures, the work of the biologists and the way of realizing the feeding of the fish. The AquaRio visitor can also enjoy the following attractions: the Virtual Aquarium, a digital aquarium with fish created by visitors  the Science Museum, composed of the Plankton Station and the Shell Exhibition; Surf, a space dedicated to the surf elaborated by the surfer Rico de Souza. As part of its structure, AquaRio has a café, a scientific research center, a parking lot and a souvenir shop, including some kiosks. Solar roof On May 31, 2016, the largest solar roof installed in urban areas of Brazil was inaugurated at AquaRio. Comprising about two thousand solar panels installed in an area of 6 thousand m², the solar roof will generate about 77 thousand kilowatts of energy per month, equivalent to the monthly consumption of 500 Brazilian homes. The roof reduces the consumption of electricity consumed by the aquarium by up to 30%.

Outros aquários oferecem experiências para crianças como tocar em alguns peixes, olgas etc..achei a loja de souvenir enorme se comparado ao aquário.. não me lembro de conhecer uma tão grande. Preferia ver mais peixes do que souvenirs.

The AquaRio visitor can also enjoy the following attractions: the Virtual Aquarium, a digital aquarium with fish created by visitors; the Science Museum, composed of the Plankton Station and the Shell Exhibition; Surf, a space dedicated to the surf elaborated by the surfer Rico de Souza. As part of its structure, AquaRio has a café, a scientific research center, a parking lot and a souvenir shop, including some kiosks.

Maravilhoso, muito perfeito mesmo. Vale a pena ir demaaaais.

We have an an aquarium very similar in San Antonio that I've been too, but the Austin Aquarium feels about half the size. Being two adults, my wife and I walked through in a half hour. Despite the smaller size there was still a wide assortment of animals from birds, to sharks, and Lemurs. The place has a lot of animals you can touch for free and then a number you can pay to touch and feed. Despite being pricy, it's very unique and awesome in that sense.

  • 5/5 Matt L. 3 years ago on Google
This place is fantastic for kids. It's the most interactive aquarium we've taken our kids too. They can touch and interact with almost all of the animals. So much better than the Dallas Aquarium for young kids as everything is right at their fingertips. The prices are also really great. Teacher's are free with their ID and kids under 3 are free as well. They offer special discounts for military, too. They have a little climbing area for kids with a super fast slide for them to play on. Make sure to buy some tokens to feed the animals. It makes the experience so much better!

  • 5/5 The Keith Lee C. 3 years ago on Google
Not a huge place but definitely worth the more intimate experiences with the animals compared to the bigger aquariums. The birds, stingrays, fish, lemurs, abs all the other animals were in close proximity to touch with plenty of staff to accommodate everyone. Definitely recommend!

  • 5/5 Jennifer D. 3 years ago on Google
The Austin Aquarium is one of the coolest aquariums I've ever been too... There's not just dress life here, but an array of small and exotic animals. The best part about the place is you can just about touch all of them... Which also means that they're fairly free for the most part. The first time I visited the entry way was full of parrots flying freely from shoulder to shoulder of the workers. It's first that they love their animals and their animals love them.

  • 5/5 Luis Carlos G. 3 years ago on Google
Great experience for the family. If you're ever in the northwest side of Austin visiting, you should swing by. There is a teacher discount available. Just bring your badge.

Three places you have to go if you visit Austin. Terra Toys, Nature's Treasures Texas, and this place. I thought I was going to see some fish. Seconds after walking in, a friendly bird lands on my shoulder and starts grooming me. This place is small, but very interactive with different animals. A delight for young and old alike. Some pirate goodness as well.

  • 5/5 Emanuel R. 3 years ago on Google
Loved it!!! Coming from Corpus Christi Tx we have the Texas State Aquarium which is huge. But my 10 year old boy had more fun with the smaller hands on Austin Aquarium. Will definitely come back and visit. Target the bird loves boys and chewing on snap back caps FYI.

DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE. It is very sketchy and ratchet- The tiny enclosures and miserable creatures will leave you scarred. They have zoo-like animals in enclosures smaller than the truck of your car. It made me sick and I had to leave. If you're an animal lover- this place is not for you. My friends and I couldnt believe our eyes and felt guilty for even buying a ticket after seeing the conditions the animals were in.

How can this kind of aquarium be so expensive!? There are not so many tanks and fish varieties, some of the corals are getting dead. If it wasn’t raining today, I would have never gone to this place…! What a waste of money..

  • 1/5 Sarita C. 2 years ago on Google
Expansive, too little, one unique big tank to walks around it. No chance to take pics but they can if you pay a lot for a terrible quality photos. Staff are noce and kind

  • 1/5 Leonardo P. 2 years ago on Google
DANGER! Nice looking aquarium, but a bit in the small side. Also, pricey and full! If you're afraid of Covid, don't come!! Although staff tell you to put masks on, they sell food in the narrow, seemingly unventialed corridors during the exhibit and lots of people take out heir masks to eat and talk in a small, confined and crowded space that you have no choice but to go through. Meaning: NO SOCIAL DISTANCING AND NO MASKS.

  • 4/5 Mario E. 4 years ago on Google
It's nice, far from the best ones (like Lisbon's), but still a remarkable effort and a nice 1-2 hours visit, specially for kids. After that, take a walk (or tram/VLT or ride on a scooter) to Museu do Amanhã.

  • 3/5 Senthamizh s. 2 years ago on Google
Bit costlier, I think around 140 BRL we need to pay here. May be a good option for the child's. For adults may not be much worth to visit it.

  • 4/5 Tomas P. 1 year ago on Google
If you have been lucky to have visited other aquariums in big cities before, you will not appreciate this one as much. For instance the one in Barcelona is incomparably better. Our kids were happy though and that’s the main thing Details: What other reviewers say is true: the entrance is quite expensive. Also unpleasant is the effort of the staff at the entrance to sell you tickets for other attractions than the aquarium. They literally swarm you like taxi drivers in some less developed destinations airports and keep offering you something you don’t want.

  • 1/5 Lisa S. 1 year ago on Google
Very disappointed! Customer service is not helpful at all! My grandma and mom are not yet illegible for the third dose of the vaccine and were not allowed in their parks. This is absolutely ridiculous. It is not their fault if the state cannot vaccinate them yet. Also, idk what part of “im not from here” the customer service representative didn’t get. They want us to to have a Digital version of the “sus” vaccine card. MY VACCINE WAS NOT FROM SUS. sua doesn’t exist in the US. for such a tourist place, the representative doesn’t know what they are talking about.

  • 4/5 Aline C. 1 year ago on Google
Lots of different marine life in somewhat sparse tanks. Very busy which does distract from the fun as you need to move along with the crowd or wait for people with phones to move out the way. Aim for a week day during term time.

Nice, something good to kill the time. There were some exhibits that were closed. The timing system is good but people don't know how to look and move. If you don't like crowds this isn't the place to go. People have no manners and don't understand personal space
