Hiked up to Lower Moro last Saturday with a 40lb pack. Took the cut across trail, recommended by the rangers, and glad I did. That trail adds about a quarter mile but disperses the elevation. It certainly had me heavy breathing. I took the ridge line trail back down on Sunday and when you get close to the ocean it turns into a very steep grade that I'm glad I didnt walk up. Campsite is well maintained with trash cans, picnic tables, and a clean vault toilet. Felt a lot like car camping once we got there, save for packing all your gear and water in and the lack of quarter showers. You need to book a reservation but individual sites are first come first serve. We got there midday and were the only backpackers there so we took the best site on top of the hill with panoramic ocean views. By sunset all sites were full and several people arriving late had to pitch their tents off to the side of established sites. This is a popular trail for day hikers and mountain bikers, who had no qualms walking right into our campsite and resting at our picnic table. If you are looking for tranquil privacy then this is probably not the place for you, at least until nightfall.

Love the views!!! Great hike for any time of the day, would be a great sunrise or sunset hike. A few little spots to stop on the way up. A well traveled path from the trailhead parking lot to the lower campsite. Tons of great trails back in here!!

Totally worth the hike. You should backpack in and camp here. The hike is not too bad but there are 3 steep sections that could be taxing if you're carrying a lot of gear. The views of the ocean and surrounding area from the top where you camp are incredible.

Wild Tobacco or Shrub Tobacco (Nicotiana glauca) right next to the trial. Wild tobacco species are native to South America. Here is considered an invasive species. All parts of this plant are poisonous to both humans and animals through absorption by skin and digestive tract, besides nicotine contained in tobacco. Beautiful plant.

Primitive campsites. Hike in is about 2.5 - 3 miles uphill. Might be a lot of people hiking and biking by, but there's some privacy from the trail. Pit bathroom close by. No water. No fire rings. Many sites have a table, some have a trash can. Some sites can only be accessed by walking through another site. Great views of the ocean and wilderness area.

The campground is clean and there are plenty of trash bins. But, the camp sites are not great. They're steeply angled, or wide open, or tiny, or over awful ground. It was very difficult to find a place for our tents. Also, after about 5p, there are loads of squatters taking legitimately reserved sites and no one to stop them. So, be careful, and make sure you come early if you reserved a spot

Cousin and I spent 2 nights at Lower recently and had some great mountain bike trail hopping fun. Site was super clean and as always we made sure to leave it cleaner than we found it for the next crew! Highly recommend

The hike was kinda tough. I didn't have proper gear so I was carrying all my stuff duffel bag style( tent water sleeping bag) as you can see in the pictures the hike is worth it. Great place to get away from the hustle and bustle of life...
