Lovely cruise across the city by river. Takes 1 hour. There are tea, coffee and simple snacks on board, as well as a toilet. Beautiful views, recommended. Were sitting inside, as it was very chilly on top! Dress accordingly. Sails off every 40 mins.

A lovely way to spend an hour, plenty of room on board, and lots of seats of top with a great view. The commentary is excellent, and there are drinks and snacks available below too. Overall pretty good. The river doesn’t allow the best views of the city, so you will need to supplement your boat cruise with a walking tour or a bus tour.

Lovely experience. Really enjoyed this. The captain (Alison) was knowledgeable and entertaining. Really appreciated that they pointed out 'no vaping', much needed. Definitely want to do this again.

Hired a self drive boat for half an hour and it was so much fun!! Definitely not an every day thing as £25 for half an hour is expensive but well worth it for a fun rare occasion. The staff member was super helpful and explained everything quickly but throughly and told us both ways we could go. The boat itself was clean, spacious and easy to operate which is perfect for novices like us! I would definitely recommend hiring a boat from city cruises for a fun activity!!

We were unlucky the first time we got on the cruise as to some technical issues the ride had to be cancelled. However we came back the next day with the same ticket and were accepted without any fuss. The cruise itself was relaxing, and to top it we were served with mince pies and drinks.

Renting a self drive boat is a good way to get away from the bustle of York for an hour or half hour. The boats are solid but old and well used and aren't terribly comfortable. That being said the engine seemed quite new and didn't give us any worries of getting stranded. We enjoyed our trip.

I really enjoyed our tour, it was such a hot day. We didn't wait long at all before getting on board and under way. Guide was informative and light hearted.

Last minute decision to do this and glad we did. Staff were friendly and knowledgeable, the female captain gave a fantastic commentary, which was informative and humorous. There is a bar and a loo on board. It was interesting to see York from this perspective. The only thing that could be improved is the signage at the other mooring spots directing you to the other ones, we walked past Kings Staithe a number of times before finding it.

My wife and I recently took a 2-hour trip to York with high hopes of enjoying a boat cruise along the coast. While the boats we encountered on the ground were older and not quite what we had envisioned, our experience turned out to be enjoyable nonetheless. Upon arrival, we were greeted by the friendly and accommodating staff, who made us feel welcomed and attended to our needs throughout the trip. The presence of a knowledgeable tour guide added a touch of educational value, enhancing our understanding of the area and its history. One highlight of the trip was the onboard shop, which offered a variety of options to satisfy our cravings. Whether we were in the mood for lager, tea, coffee, snacks, or soft drinks, there was something for everyone. It was a convenient and pleasant surprise to have these refreshments available onboard, allowing us to relax and enjoy the journey. Despite the boats not living up to our initial expectations, we found solace in the fact that the staff made up for it with their exceptional service. The tour guide's expertise and the onboard amenities added an extra layer of enjoyment to the experience. While we would have preferred more modern boats, it is important to note that the quality of service and the overall atmosphere compensated for this shortcoming. We left the trip feeling satisfied and appreciative of the effort put forth by the staff to make our visit memorable. In conclusion, our trip to York for a boat coast may not have met our initial expectations in terms of the boats themselves. However, the kindness of the staff, the presence of a knowledgeable tour guide, and the convenience of an onboard shop made our experience enjoyable.

Did their "floodlit" evening cruise 6/23 as a group of 6 friends whilst on holiday locally. A bit underwhelming tbh. Pleasant enough, but absolutely no commentary throughout about what we were seeing (though over 80% of the trip was away from the city, so largely trees and shrubs along the riverbank). Only the last 10-15 minutes was through the city which was the "floodlit" bit (i.e. the boat had its lower deck lights on, which is not my definition of floodlit).

We enjoyed a lovely 45-minute boat trip on a busy and humid Saturday afternoon in September. The boat was very clean and comfortable, although the seating was a little cramped. The boat has toilets and a bar aboard, and there is seating downstairs as well as up on the top deck. We paid £14 per adult, which we thought was a tad expensive for the trip. The driver of the boat gave a commentary throughout the trip, which was informative but distracting, and his voice was memorable but not in a good way. We got to see some lovely sights, which was nice, but I would rather hire a motorboat next time.

Not normally something I would do but had a voucher so gave it a go. Friendly and very helpful staff made the experience better, not very busy so had no issues getting a good seat, at £13 each would probably say if I didn't have the voucher would have found it a touch pricey considering not a whole lot to look at but the Skippers commentary and the relaxing ride were quit enjoyable.

We had a lovely cruise on the largest of the tour boats, quite reasonably priced at £14 for 45 minutes. There's a on board bar, plus upstairs & downstairs seating with plenty of standing room in case you feel like stretching your legs mid journey. Slight gripe with the upstairs seating, the rows of chairs are spaced too closely & there's little room to cross or uncross legs + if someone on the chair closest to the edge wants to move, everybody on the row has to move with such little space. Otherwise a pleasant journey, recommended.

Lovely weekend in York, were lucky with the weather. Plenty to do, lots of restraunts and pubs. The river cruise was informative.

This is a great little treat for an hour or so, yes the boats are dated and require a full refurb but it doesn’t spoil the 45/60 little trip along the Ouse. Really nice staff and reasonably priced food items and drink. If you have time, jump on one for a relaxing treat

This was my second trip on the city cruise in York. I had a great experience in June 2021 and again this time in May 2023. You purchase your ticket as you board which is great because if the weather is bad you don’t have to go and don’t have to try and get a refund. Also you can go at a time that suits you. Friendly staff. Lovely on a sunny day. Cardigan recommended. Bar on board. Toilet on board. Covered in area below. Lovely to see the city of York from a different view and see the history of when the boats delivered all the goods to the businesses. Really recommend this trip £13 an adult.

A fantastic boat tour of York! Despite having visited the city hundreds of times, I've never taken a boat tour. Even though I know York very well, it was a brilliant experience to see the city from a new perspective. The skipper was really knowledgeable and shared many fascinating insights along the journey. It was a very relaxing ride and a love that umbrellas were on hand when we experienced a brief shower! A fantastic experience whether it is your first visit to York or you've grown up in the area - highly recommend!

A great experience in York. The captain Andy had great commentary and was very funny. It was good to hear some history about York and we were lucky with the weather so it was nice sitting on the top deck and admiring the views along the river

Booked a 45 minute cruise on the river; staff were very helpful as we had an 80 year old with a mobility scooter. We were advised to go from Kings Staith 1 jetty as it had a ramp straight onto the boat. This was as opposed to the jetty at The Star Inn which had steps only. We were allowed to leave the mobility scooter on shore in the care of one of the staff who then brought it to our landing jetty at the end of the cruise. Superb customer service!! On the boat itself there was an indoor ‘saloon’ area for inclement weather, as we had decent weather we decided to sit on the open top upper deck. There is a bar on board serving a variety of alcoholic cold drinks, soft drinks and hot drinks such as wine, beer, coffee and cola etc. They also have a small selection of chocolate bars, nuts and other snacks. Toilets can also be found on the boat. Commentary is provided by the captain from the wheelhouse, we had an excellent commentary from our captain that was worth the price alone!! The information provided was packed with history and facts, very interesting. Based on this experience I would certainly recommend taking a cruise to see the city.

Location wise was really good. We went October time and it wasnt too cold however I don't think it was worth the money. There other tours available for York that I think are better and more worth for your money.

Three of us hired the self drive boat for one hour after booking online and cannot recommend this enough! The staff were lovely, giving clear instructions and the boat was very easy to drive. We were lucky with the weather in October and my 12 year old boy absolutely loved it. A great way to do something a bit different in York and see parts of it from the river. Well worth £40 in my opinion.

Great boat trip yesterday! Laurie our skipper was really funny! The commentary was hilarious and really made it for us! Nice to be able to get a glass of vino on board! Have been to York many times before but have never done this trip……takes an hour and was a lovely way of seeing York and lots of informative stuff about the city. Highly recommended!

Went on the River Ouse city cruise which gave e us another perspective off York from another angle. Tour guide was full of knowledge and very easy to listen to.

I did enjoy the experience, I would do again. Friendly staff & good fun waving at everyone! My issues were that we couldn't hear a word that was being said so no idea what we were looking at, but it was nice anyway. I also booked online for 2pm, it said boarding 1:30, when we arrived at 1:30, we were told it's 2:15 and to come back at 2. That was fine but was a little confusing that the online booking said something different. The website to book is not the best (slow to load and such). No major issue though and we both still really enjoyed it. It took about an hour overall.
