We arrived at this beautiful museum for modern and contemporary art on Skeppsholmen at 10 a.m. sharp on Tuesday morning to visit its separate exhibit on Björn Lövin. This means we had it almost to ourselves. The artist gives a satirical but frightening view on the development of our society in the 1970's that we found had parallels to George Orwell's novel 1984. An exhibit that you should return to se a couple of times before having appreciated its depth.

I am pretty sure that one of Moderna Museet’s curators is actually a cat.

quite a nice collection of european american modern art. best of all, entry to the permanent collections is free. there is a nice restaurant with beautiful views of the water. they serve goos pastries and coffee as well as other food. and there is a decent museum shop. worth a visit. ArkDes the architecture museum is accessible via the same entrance but it was unfortunately closed when we came.

Be careful museums aren't free anymore ! As it was raining on that day we just wanted an activity indoors , and this was the perfect stop. The entry is a bit expensive but the place is interesting and coffee shop are a really good.

Beautiful spot for a museum. The museums cafeteria is breathtaking- lovely view, definitely grab a coffee and snack there after. The locker system is easy and great. My only complaint is that I thought it would be bigger, it’s much smaller than other modern art museums in other capital cities. Great morning out :)

Every time we go to Stockholm we visit this museum. It has some really interesting art. The restaurant is also a must, even if you don’t like art it’s worth paying a visit. Really nice views and nice cakes!!! Coffee was also great. The island on which it stands makes a nice morning or afternoon trip. The entrance is free at the moment and part of the building is being refurbished.

As modern art museums, some interesting things, some strange things, not a big museum it can be visited in one hour more or less: it depends the time you will take to think about on each spot 😁 Pictures of favorites with Kandinsky of course 😉

Great art from great artists! They preserved and presented the arts delicately! The lighting was also good, shaping the artsy atmosphere. I entered here free on Friday after 6 pm.

The museum is free and it is a good thing for Art ! It is very interesting, absolutely not boring, with great masterpieces. You can leave your bag and stuff in a free locker to enjoy the visit without carrying your house on your back if you are a tourist like me, it should be like this in every museum ! A must see.

A well curated museum featuring works by Twombly, Still, Newman, deBuffet, Matisse, and more. The Seven Rooms and a Garden exhibit by Rashid Johnson was really beautifully done and they did a great job at pairing his works with other pieces.

Do not miss this place if it’s your first time in Stockholm (or even second and third). Spend your free time with arts. It’s free and nice. When you finish just visit the cafe. Have a glass of whatever you want. My choice was white wine & an open face sandwich. Then do some shopping at the store.

Well worth a visit for the beautiful settings on Skeppsholmen, the typical 90-ies architecture, the odd treasure piece and the great view from the restaurant. But the (way too) permanent exhibition as a whole, including the ridiculously over branded excuse for an architecture and design display doesn’t warrant more than the most passing of glances.

The collection felt very much like a loose collection of pieces and not something with a story. Some works in the basement were really captivating. The quality of the individual artworks is excellent. The museum consists of a modern layout with a large ground floor and a small basement. The entrance to the permanent collection is free, the temporary exhibition has a pretty steep price.

Great collection! It’s quite cool to see artwork from world-renowed artists (like Picasso, Duchamp, Dali, Matisse, Kandinsky, Warhol, and etc.) here. There’s also a paid exhibition.

Now you need to pay about 20$... For 1 adult... That is extremely expensive... It was free before... And it was much better... Anyway there is beautiful and wonderful pieces of art left to enjoy ...

The Moderna Museet is indeed a beautiful and renowned museum. Located on the island of Skeppsholmen, it is one of Europe's leading museums for modern and contemporary art. The museum building itself is quite striking and contemporary in design. It was designed by the Spanish architect Rafael Moneo and opened in 1998. The architecture features a combination of sleek lines, glass facades, and open spaces, which provide a fitting backdrop for the artworks displayed inside. Inside the Moderna Museet, you can find an impressive collection of modern and contemporary art, including works by prominent Swedish and international artists. The collection spans various artistic mediums, such as painting, sculpture, photography, video art, and installations. It covers significant art movements from the 20th century to the present day, showcasing works by artists like Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dalí, Henri Matisse, Andy Warhol, and Yayoi Kusama, among others. You're in Stokholm, just go there !!

Beautiful museum. Went to see the Hilma af Klint exhibition showcasing her series of paintings “The Ten Largest". Fantastic paintings, lots of other artwork on display. A Christmas themed exhibition gingerbread houses with the theme "around the corner" were on display some great designs. Cafe was great tasty cinnamon bun and nice tea. Bit cold to explore outside when we visited but will definitely return.

It is indeed interesting museum for modern art lovers. There were different sections. Take your time to walk around and observe works. For me the part with architecture of Sweden was really interesting. P.S: It’s free on Fridays from 18:00 to 20:00

A beautiful place to visit if you like contemporary and modern art. I visited the Hilma af Klint exhibition and it was amazing! There was also a gingerbread house exhibition 🎊🎉

I visited the museum mostly for the temporary Hilma af Klint exhibit. It was super busy because I went during the last weekend. However, it was worth the wait. Besides the temporary exhibits, the museum displays work by major artists from different parts of the world. My favorites were Klee, Kuzama, Abramović and Klint of course. If you are into modern and contemporary art, this museum is a must.

It’s not as small as I read in the reviews. Plan for at least 3 hours if you like to read the description/ spend some time in front of the piece. A good mix of media such has canvases, installations and videos. Would’ve liked to see more works of new generation Of artists.

Not because the gallery which is also good, but the coffe guy in was such a passionate barista. He forgot about my double espresso so he decided to throw it away because it lost the exact service temperature. He made a new one and it was perfect! Great experience.
