Storkyrkan (st. Nicolas church) in Stockholm located not far from Royal Palace. This brilliant example of gothic bricks architecture was built by the founder of city Stockholm in XIII-th century and been a wetness of many royal celebration (wedding, coronation, funeral etc) The most famous thing in the church is the wooden statue of St. George ridding a dragon - reminder if the battle of the Bunker, The symbolism is St. George is a Stan Sture (the leader, who won the war), the dragon - the king of Denmark and the princess - Sweden. The statue contains relics of St. Gearge and six others saints. Personally I was impressed by monumentalism of the beauty this church represents! Next time I’ll be around will definitely check it out by myself! #StockholmChurch #SaintNicolasChurch #SaintNicolasChurchStockholm

Lovely church in the middle of Gamla Stan (It's the name for the old town of Stockholm and dates back to the 1200s), however, not worth the entrance fee. You’d better only see it from outside and walk around the picturesque and beautiful square.

The Cathedral is located on Main Square, right next to the Royal Palace. The building dates from the 1300s and is still being used for many ceremonies such as coronations and weddings. The Cathedral is quite sober because it is Protestant, but has some interesting pieces. The most spectacular ones are the statue of St. George killing a dragon and the Silver Altar. Many concerts are held here, but it's best to get information while being there, as the staff can provide you better information than that what is on the website.

This could be good photo with the church at background if you explore the streets closeby

Instead of PAYING to visit this cathedral, walk a couple blocks south to St. Gertrude's, which is FREE and just as pretty (Not a fan of churches charging an entry fee)

This church is stunning. The scale of the art is amazing, as is the number of pieces. The in-floor tomb monuments are everywhere and I admit I still feel weird walking on them, even though I know they are the floor. Don't forget to look up! The organ and the ceilings are stunning as well. We could have spent more time here than we had time for on this visit.

Really beautiful. I wasn't expecting it to be as nice as it was. It's in a really convenient location next to the Royal Palace, and it's free to visit for those 17 and under. The cathedral is across from the palace gift shop.

Very beautiful church with many carved wooden items such as the pulpit and the Saint George and the Dragon statue. At 13:00 a young man appeared in the pulpit and led people in the Lord's prayer. Very nice!

Sehr empfehlenswert.

Really beautiful! The arquirecture, statues (and dragon) are imposing, yet the church feels very calm. The money goes to their reparations!

Stunning church. A must in Stockholm- top object is St George fighting the dragon sculpture. Very unique, medieval masterpiece. Church also contains an image of Stockholm from XV century.

I really enjoyed this building! It is very sophisticated, grandiose, and has a great interesting history. It is also of very impressive size. The area is busy, so the cathedral gets crowded often.

This is a beautiful and very historic old Cathedral located in the old area of Stockholm called gambler stand. The interior of the cathedral is nice, but it’s most known for the statue of Saint George slaying the dragon. It is worth a visit if you visit Stockholm.

This is my favorite church in Stockholm and a must visit if you like European cathedrals. The interior decor is beautiful! The church isn’t very big, but is well worth the visit.

Eintritt 85 SEK, Studenten/Pensionäre 65 SEK. Schönes Gotteshaus. Hier hat die Kronprinzessin 2010 geheiratet. Toilette in der Kirche vorhanden.

Had the opportunity to attend the Lucia concert as well. Two birds with one stone! There are still renovations being done outside but the inside is okay, I think. Keep on wearing your jackets inside if it's like -6. You'll get cold.

Outstanding walk through church. Primarily where the Kings And Queens, as well as the wealthy were buried. Very ornate, and decorative features, we worth the visit.

Charging (75 sek) people who wish to spend some time at a religious place of worship is not fair!

  • 3/5 Hernan H. 1 year ago on Google
I do not agree to buy ticket for a religious site. The architecture is particular and specific style with red bricks. Keep in mind the exterior part is under renovation until end of 2022. 6ou won't see anything due to construction works.

Stockholm Cathedral is a must visit in Gamla Stan Stockholm. This very large and impressive cathedral has a beautiful interior that features this amazing statue of St George slaying the Dragon. I was fortunate to see a live choir performance on Sunday afternoon that showed the acoustic brilliance of this wonderful chirch

This is a beautiful church right in the center of old town. It had really high ceilings and a beautiful interior. It was the only church that had an entrance fee but it was still worth the visit.

A must see when you visit Stockholm! The cathedral is beautiful and you can find many important pieces of religious art. One of the most important one here is Saint George fighting a dragon!

When it comes to baroque architecture and embellishments this church is chocked full of great items. Just make sure to get a guide so you don't miss some of the key highlights like I did (I missed the solar portrait), I was mostly keen on the St. George Statue but there are other treats for the eye. Should take maybe 30 minutes to see everything in great detail.

The main cathedral of the Church of Sweden. Visited a few day ago, beautiful architecture having wonderful statues. Also The final resting place of many monarchs and families. There was renovation work in progress hence not able to completely enjoy the tour, also now one has to purchase tickets for visiting. I suppose to meet the renovation expenses. Still a wonderful experience visiting .

They have the original of the huge statue on Gamle Stan here, which is incredibly made from horn and wood. There is also a famous painting of an astronomical event, which is good to see in real life

Storkyrkan is the oldest church in Stockholm, located between the Royal Palace and the Stock Exchange building. It contains some remarkable works of art, like "Saint George and the Dragon", a late medieval wooden sculpture attributed to Bernt Notke, Vädersolstavlan, an oil on panel painting depicting an atmospheric optical phenomenon observed in Stockholm in 1535 and finally a silver and ebony altarpiece donated by the widow of Johan Adler Salvius in 1652. The entrance ticket costs 75 SEK.

A church with a long history. Royal weddings are carried out here, the horse and dragon statue is a must-see as it represents the Sweden’s defeat of Denmark. There’s also an oldest cityscape painting of Stockholm
