Very interesting museum in the heart of Stockholm which is free of a entry fee for the main exhibitions (which is about 95% of the museum I‘d say). The museum shows a great variety of art from Rembrandt pictures to innovative electric mobility designs. I highly recommend at least spending some time here since it is free and has a lot to offer!

A very nice museum to spend an hour or two, with several works from famous artists like Rodin and Rembrandt, but not the greatest national museum that I have seen in my travels. For an art enthusiast especially familiar with Dutch or Swedish artists, it may be more interesting. There are plenty of bathrooms and free lockers to store your things as you wander through.

Museum is free for all and an absolute jewel. Filled with beautiful sculptures and paintings, along with its beautiful and grand architecture, this is a place which all should visit! Inside, you will find a progression from ancient to modern, starting from the top floor to the bottom. The sculpture garden beside the gift shop is also absolutely beautiful, and you can rest there after visting the expansive museum. Definitely worth a visit, and something which should not be missed when visiting Stockholm!

An absolutely wonderful museum where you can easily spend half a day. They have a Cafe, free lockers to store your belongings and various areas to sit and enjoy the ominous environment. There is a gift shop on site as well and many clean restrooms. The elevators will take you to any floor if you have difficulty with stairs. The museum is air conditioned and a nice place to sit in the sculpture garden to relax and enjoy as it is indoors. The works of art are many as they have Monet, Renoir, Matisse, Rubens, and multiple Swedish artists. There is a modern gallery that features various works, sculpture, furniture, etc, and many rooms displaying antiques. I will definitely visit again. I gave the museum 4 stars only because the rooms aren't labeled as you enter them to follow along with the paper map. I had to visit the top floor twice and walked around multiple times to find the Monet. The guided brochure should provide detail on where some famous works are located and the room should have an identifying number on the wall near the entrance. There is a mobile app but I didn't have any information on that when arriving.

An amazing journey that takes from the 1500s to the 2000s. Great collections of paintings and sculptures. All sections are free except for some private exhibitions. Private exhibition (Swedish women artists 1880 - 1920) ticket costs 100 SEK. A must visit place in Stockholm. I highly recommend it.

My recent trip to the Nationalmuseum in Stockholm turned out to be an enchanting adventure that truly captivated me. Upon stepping inside, I was greeted by an inviting blend of sophistication and warmth that set the tone for what lay ahead. This museum boasts an exceptional collection that's an absolute delight for history aficionados and art lovers alike. The exhibits elegantly unravel Sweden's cultural odyssey, painting a vivid picture of its ancient origins all the way to the modern era. The meticulous attention to detail in how each artifact is curated and explained left a deep impression on me. It felt as though I was stepping through a portal in time, each new gallery revealing a fresh chapter in Sweden's story. One of the highlights for me was the seamless fusion of art, craftsmanship, and history. The assortment of items, spanning from delicate porcelain masterpieces to intricate paintings, brilliantly showcased Sweden's evolving artistic prowess. The narratives behind each piece fascinated me, shedding light on the dedication and artistry that went into their creation. The staff's enthusiasm and wealth of knowledge added an extra layer of enchantment to my visit. Their eagerness to share intriguing anecdotes and insights created a personal and immersive experience. Clearly, the team at the Nationalmuseum takes immense pride in preserving Sweden's cultural tapestry, ensuring that visitors like me can forge a meaningful connection with bygone times. For locals and travelers alike, the Nationalmuseum is an absolute gem that should not be missed. It transcends being merely a museum; it's a captivating expedition through history that leaves you inspired and enriched. Hats off to the dedicated team for upholding such a remarkable institution that brings Sweden's history to life. I'm already looking forward to my next visit to Stockholm so I can relive this extraordinary experience!

I traveled a lot around Russia and Europe , especially Italy, France, Holland, that’s why this museum’s value for me is 3/5. It’s more like artists gallery with paintings than historical museum. Nothing new I learned. If you have couple of hours, you can come. The price is about 15 euro.

The collections of the Nationalmuseum include paintings, sculptures, drawings and graphics from the years 1500-1900, as well as objects of applied arts and broadly understood design, from the early Middle Ages to the present day. Admission is free. However, please remember to bring headphones for your phone because we have an audio guide at our disposal. We also have a gift shop and a nice cafe at our disposal.

Beautiful museum The entrance to the permanent exhibition is free of charge and it includes works of some of the most famous artists: Rembrandt (including his ever last painting - Simeon with the Christ child in the Temple - which is unfinished), Degas, Rodin, and more. The art is exhibited chronologically, and we enjoyed it. Also - there is a very good restaurant on the premises

Beautiful art gallery on a building that is old European style. Very beautiful building and they also have a sculpture courtyard which has skylight and gives a great ambiance. On site restaurant/cafe/bar is also of very good quality. The dining area is big and have a lot of light. The museum also has an app with audio guides and elaborate details. The reason I give a 4 star is I thought they could do a better job to present each exhibition in bite size format. Most of the time each exhibition floor only has 2 or at most 3 segments (and it is a very big place). I wish there was more emphasize on the story of people and history too to educate a general audience like me (I can’t say I am a big arts connoisseur). Otherwise it is a very lovely building and art collection still worth a visit.

The name of the National Museum is slightly misleading; it is more of an art gallery and fine art museum than anything. However, it has a good and pretty eclectic collection, especially strong on Dutch art (there are a few Rembrandts) and (obviously) Swedish art. It covers a fairly broad time period, and in addition to the paintings there are artefacts and furniture, including an exhibition of Swedish design in modern times. If you are an art lover, or even have a reasonable interest, it is well worth visiting, not least for the building and some of the views across Stockholm, although it is unlikely to appeal much to younger children.

A must go if you come to Stockholm. The museum located in the heart of Stockholm near the royal palace. The entrance is for free unless you wants to view temporary exhibitions. A recommendation is to view the art following the timeline from 15 century all the way to today. You can easily spend 2, 3 days there. No matter you are a art lover or not you can learn something or simply enjoying the calming ambiance.

A good museum knows how to tell a story and this one certainly does. Newly reopened after massive renovations, it has a very nice collection of arts through different periods and a good mix between paintings and other artifacts. The explanation panels were easy to read and informative. Plus it’s free

When we were last in Sweden in the summer of 2019, the national museum had re-opened during the preceding autumn after a lengthy renovation. It was an immense transformation from the old "dusty" place we knew before to a brilliantly designed and curated museum. This morning we returned to see the Swedish Grace exhibition, presenting paintings, design, theatre, dance, film and hair-do-s from the 1920-ies. Like the rest of the museum it was particularly interesting and well curated. Enjoy a small sample of what is on display. Don't miss this exhibition, separate from the permanent one!

I highly recommend to visit this museum in Stockholm. It's a must to go in the city. Located in the heart of Stockholm, the museum has so many different exhibitions that portraits the art evolution in Europe and Sweden and the influence of other cultures in the latter. The museum has an app that guides you through the exhibitions and the museum. Depending on the exhibition you need to book in advance otherwise you just drop in.

For a start, the building is beautiful. They have a wide art collection, nicely arranged by decade. I loved that it is accessible for everyone. The museum is free. You get to see masterpieces like Rembrandt. For a contribution you could also acces (during my stay) two other exhibitions including a audio tour. I really liked it.

Really enjoyed my visit to the National museum, the artwork and sculptures were magnificent. You can really appreciate the talent of these artists. It was also free entry, which made it so worthwhile! I highly recommend visiting. Entertainment = 8/10 Value = 10/10 Overall = 9/10

Interesting mix of pieces in exhibits for different time periods: paintings, furniture, sculptures and much more. I particularly enjoyed the 15th century Dutch paintings including several of Rembrandt. There also was a fun temporary exhibition of American art. Lighting was a bit off and detracted from the experience of some of the paintings - what a shame...

Nice museum 150sek to enter all areas, not bad. I don't mind paying for museums, I know it was all free before but culture and art has value. This is mainly just paintings but it's amazing to see them up close, especially Manet, Monet and Carl/Karin Larssons!

Very pleasant visit. The main part of the museum is free. There are a lot of lockers in the basement to store coats and bags (you can't access the museum with a bagpack in the back, you could break an item by turning around). Nothing else to add, just go there if you have some time in Stockholm and you like art and history.

Small artmuseum. Easy to trace art history from 1500 to 2000. Treasury is bit difficult to find the door. Don't miss it. Free entrance and easy access. Located very central, next to grand hotel. If visit here in a morning, can take great photo of old town and royal palace. There is a cozy cafe serving lunch and cakes. Can try Swedish traditional pastries.

This is a truly complete art museum. It is actually difficult to experience the whole place in one day as a visitor. There are works by week known masters, local artists, and contemporary displays as well. You likely need 2 or 3 visits to take everything in. The good news is that the main museum is free so don't feel bad if you don't see everything in one shot. You can spend an hour or a day and be absolutely sure you will see a wonderfully curated collection of art.

Amazing place with amazing workers. Great art. Wonderful building. Definitely recommend. The museum is free so you can visit multiple times during a visit in Stockholm. Bigger bags and baggage can be stored in lockers also for free. I love the souvenir shop and sculpture room, along with the blue room upstairs. One of my favourites places in Stockholm.

Featuring paintings from Rembrandt, Monet and other household names, art lovers will adore this museum. The galleries are organised to travel through the ages, and offer a Swedish perspective on art through the ages. The building itself is beautiful and well worth visiting to see the interior itself, but it also boasts an impressive collection of pieces from all over the world. The labelling of pieces, however, was very confusing, and many cabinets of dozens of items were not clearly labelled so you were left guessing what referred to what, if they were even labelled at all. The labels were also often just brief descriptions of the piece and did not provide any historical or cultural context to the pieces. Overall, an impressive collection but unfortunately inaccessible to a layman due to the sub par labelling.

Wow! One of the most beautiful places in Stockholm. There is a beautiful white room with statues where you can just enter absolutely complementary and enjoy the art. One of my favorite museums now.

+ I loved the smell of the oil paintings and wood! The colours and the amount of the paintings was amazing! A journey through time, passing from one hall to another! There are lockers for your belongings, a restaurant and a gift shop! - I would appreciate some information label about the statues though.

Beautiful redecorated museum exposing Swedish art treasures, furniture and household design in fitting ensembles. For Dutch visitors the amount and quality of Dutch seventeenth century paintings in the Swedish collection might be surprising.

Nice museum with art from 1600 till now. I was expecting something other than this but it was nice to see the stolen art from Prague (that I’m from). 😅 lockers 🔒 are free! Gift shop is nice, but stamps here are expensive!

Museums are always a "must" on the list of things we do when we go to new places, especially a completely different continent to begin with. This museum has been by far my favorite, as it portrayed a level of mastery in art thar I've never seen before in person. I've been to museums before, I enjoyed them, but this one had me especially captivated when it came to the sculptures that were being exposed that day. I've read about some of them in art classes during the years here and there, you hear and read a lot about the level of detail the have, the tremendous amount of work and patience each take, and how the artist goes for a perfect human physique. Finally seeing that in person, under so many different lights that allowed me to see the things that I've read so much about in the past changed my perspective entirely. Same goes to the paintings this museum had. We spent around 1.5 hours in the museum, as sadly we had to be back to the apartment early that day, but I would've gladly stayed there double that time. Set the proper amount of time and visit Nationalmuseum, this is a museum you can't skip.

The National Museum has beautiful displays of art and sculptures. The entry to this museum is free except for one section where you need to pay to see the exhibition. A perfect place to spend a rainy day in Stockholm. An additional advantage is that they have a nice cafe for lunch and fika.

Permanent collection: excellent Temporary collection (gardens in art): excellent Gift shop: great range, not outrageous pricing Amenities: very good, very clean, no ticket required for the bathroom, mildly haunted excellent museum, very good gift shop and bathrooms that you can get into without a ticket. Jewellery display was only a little haunted and a lot of focus on non traditional art like cabinets and some textiles which was delightful. Each room was also a different colour which made moving through the collection very fun also they had a temporary exhibition on gardens in art delightful again.

What a splendid museum. What a success the renovation of the National Museum. The rich collection and the beautiful light and the colours, you want to stay there for hours/days. The café, nice prices, tasty cakes and there you take a rest and a nice talk ! Enjoy!

Nice and organised museum, was probably expecting a bit more from a national museum as if to compare with, for example, the National Museum of Edinburgh, then this one is way way smaller.

all the room and floor has different century art pieces, and it tells the story how the art developed from 14th century. there’s a locker room to put your bags. all the staff are really friendly and helpful. the interior of the museum is really well considerate. i was enjoying my visit to this museum! recommended!

Recently reopened. It is filled with good works on a reasonable scale. Currently, only the 6th floor is in operation and displays Anders Zorn's paintings. The stay time is limited to 90 minutes, but in fact, that time was enough to appreciate the works.

Enjoyed our time in Nationalmuseum🫶🏻🥰! We loved modern art, but we liked the paintings of the 18th-20th centuries no less! We were glad to meet 3 paintings by Claude Monet! An excellent place for a cultural time!

Amazing place - but it's an art gallery not a museum! Absolutely magnificent collection - you could spend weeks in here, literally. The entry is free and you pay extra for the temporary exhibition which was women sculptors - a real pleasure! Quite an upmarket cafe, also doing coffee/tea etc, which is pretty busy. Maybe better to come for fika than a meal due to cost!

Make sure you have at least 2 hrs for this museum. Unfortunately I discovered it in my last day in the city and didn't have time to see all the exhibitions. Gorgeous building and so nicely takes you through the art from 1500 to our days. And not to mention that is also free.

  • 5/5 Riku K. 2 years ago on Google
Lots of different art from various centuries, countries and painters. Would definetly recommend to be ready to spend at least 2-3 hours there. And it's also free if you don't want to go to the special expedition.

There are many french painters work but also swedish artists. Last part of the free expo focus on contemporary work. Overall a good experience, would visit again
