The HCCC are a government funded body, do not expect a thorough investigation if you find yourself receiving inadequate or negligent care in our health system. Doctor's, hospitals are immune from any accountability. I do not see what the HCCC actually do, they are biased in there findings and are not impartial, this organization has no real benefit for the public it really should be shut down. If you find yourself receiving inadequate or negligent care, don't waste your time with the HCCC they are a waste of tax payers dollars, get yourself a lawyer.

The Health Care Complaints Commission is nothing more than a sham organisation, set up to protect the interests of health care providers in New South Wales. They have zero interest in assisting patients to receive the medical assistance that they urgently require, and instead they seek to find reasons to justify the inadequate health care services that providers have delivered across the state. Their "reviews" are a complete waste of time, and do nothing to help medical patients across New South Wales gain access to the health care services that they need. I have rated them 1 star, only because ZERO stars was not an available option to select!

Your first impression of the results of an HCCC investigation is that they act as a conduit of information for the person or entity that you have complained about. You can request a review and must follow their instructions to do so. It isn't hard to do that, and it's as simple as making the initial complaint. Do not be put off by an unfavourable outcome but be prepared. Always keep your own contemporaneous records relating to the event(s) that you're complaining about, compile additional evidence, and give yourself enough time to ride out whatever negative emotion you experience after a finding that, in your mind, is unfair. The HCCC is not a private lawyer either. It will become apparent that despite their purported impartiality, the outcome you seek really depends on (in addition to your evidence) the size and nature of thing that you are complaining about. For example if you complain about a practitioner, you might find the outcome and response to be more satisfactory. If you complain about a local health district or hospital, the outcome might leave you feeling isolated. Finally, the HCCC is like any other place in that it employs many people with varying types of work ethic. You are as likely to find laziness, ineptitude and insensitivity at the HCCC as you are at a hospital, police station, courier company, law firm, or clothes store. You will also find the opposite with conscientious, sensitive, informed and competent staff present. In conclusion, you should find a good lawyer and see if they'll take you as a client otherwise, you won't achieve much. Money.

The HCCC won’t bother reading the information you provide. They’ll choose to believe any lies told to them by health providers even when you provide evidence proving their dishonesty. They’ll support providers even when they’re breaking laws and medical guidelines. People in NSW just need to accept that this is now a thoroughly corrupt and overtaxed state that will give you very little back for your hard earned tax dollars. The HCCC make healthcare dangerous in NSW. Health providers are well aware there is little accountability. Many will encourage people to contact the HCCC in place of doing their jobs properly with quite a snide attitude. We’re leaving NSW and going somewhere we can get decent healthcare because there is actual accountability.

Useless!!! I was given another person’s private medical details with my name, address, Medicare number, phone number etc. on top, and they wasted my time for months and then did nothing useful about it. They claimed that they contacted the person who made the error and were satisfied with their response. If someone can be that clumsy and flippant with a person’s private medical details, chances are they had done it before and will do it many times again, especially since they got away with it without even a slap on the wrist, let alone being deregistered like they should have been! Staff members are verbally abusive! If I had the option, I would give them negative 1000 stars!

I'd give them 0 if it was possible. This organisation doesn't follow up, investigate or care when health services go wrong. Most people consider the term "investigate" to mean more than calling hospital staff and believe whatever they say. This organisation is promoted by your LHD as being an "independent agency", however, this isn't the truth at all. Be warned that your LHD will delete files, lie to you and cover up mistakes. Don't take their "sorry" to mean anything. Lawyers jobs on Seek for the HCCC are about $350,000 per year and I assume the gov pays these lawyers to reduce the court payouts regarding the mistakes in the public health system. The role of this organisation is to downplay medical issues when things go wrong. Speak with a lawyer instead.

I placed a complaint with these people way back in late Oct 2021 in regards to a GP who refused to let me finish my phone appointment and as such I was not able to let her know that I needed my injection at the practice. Anyway long story short, I was given a ref number to quote after more than 8 phone calls where I kept being shunted to my case manager's voicemail which by the way she never returned my calls, I was then told by her secretary on the 9th call that my case manager has left and no longer works for them...WTH, now on the next 6 calls to my new case manager, she too has my calls going to her voicemail where she is not calling me back either nor answering emails, a heads up would be appreciated and I am anticipating not hearing back from them EVER, because from what I was told after ringing the medical practice in question, I was told my case closed...again WTH, you need to tell people what when and why their cases are closed, you don't handle a complaint and say its now closed with no feedback to the complainant, because nothing has been sorted.

If I could give it a no star I would. Was called all morning by the officer and couldn't take the call as at work. She emailed me and as soon as I could ring at lunch time I did. Only to be talked over the top of and yelled at. She stated that as I put the complaint in I should have made myself available at all times. I put the phone down by the side of me as she ranted her long speech about how they can't fix everyone's problems. All in the room heard her going on. She rang again at 6pm that night and went off at me again as I tried to reason that she should not talk to people this way. This organisation should be reststaffed immediately.

HCCC I ask them ones for justice to my own observation they take sides with the medical profession on the phone they do Deny it , I do not know the reason but looks to me if a patient complains against a doctor he no have justice or understanding it will go in defense of the medical practitioner depending what they say , I think is more of an attitude no ethnicity, or inability to practice justice only pretend they do impartial, even if you review make no sense at all , to me this organization looks like a toothless tiger who act on demand but no power to complete the job possible blind tiger in a democratic world as They say sad to see it how the government appoint people to act for the people from the people, this is my own observation dealing with them I feel no to complain again because no one pay attention

1 star because that's the lowest that you can give the Health Care Complaints Commission of NSW, shame you can't go lower because they certainly do. Complaints are a waste of time because you are ignored, gaslit, and treated as a KPI, not a human being. The complaints process is not made clear from the outset, but that seems to be the whole point: confuse, confound, abuse, and make them give up. Job well done!

Without Prejudice Their seems to be many areas that the HCCC breaches its own code of conduct. The deplorable behaviour towards Dr Charlie Teo is a case in point. “We protect the public by managing complaints about medical practitioners in New South Wales.” Really? Where does one go and complain about the unconscionable behaviour of this governing body? It’s poor processes have been fatally imposed on patients BANNED from seeing Dr Teo. Get off your collective bureaucratic backsides, find someone who is actually qualified to understand all the issues and ACT! No doubt the process will be trawling through waste paper baskets to try and pin something on him. Trying to justify his crazy and unjustified suspension. All the while people die for the sake of bureaucratic egos!

The complaints process is very slow but in the end it was helpful. The Resolution Officer, Wayne, was great, always very calm and good at seeing my point of view. Both hospitals which treated me after I fell off my bike admitted that they could improve their procedures and communication, though of course whether anything really changes is another matter. However, at least they seemed to take my complaints seriously in the end. Unfortunately nothing will undo how unpleasant it was to be treated in such a casual fashion in the first place, but at least they were forced to acknowledge how upsetting it was to me, which is all that could be achieved.

What a useless waste of space this government department is. I had a dodgy doctor (Michael Shatwell) write a blatantly biased error riddled medico legal report to intentionally benefit the insurance company that was paying him for the report. I had proof that the Doctor has intentionally wrote a misleading report so I contacted the HCCC. They responded by telling me they could not change the contents of a medico legal report. I do not know why they thought that was the issue at hand. The doctors conduct was clearly the issue. Ben Randall from the HCCC said he would be able to help me if the doctor has yelled at me or was rude to me but he could not help with him intentionally writing false statements in a report. It seems a rude doctor is more serious to them that a doctors professional misconduct. Ben and all his subordinates are your typical government sort of worker. Useless.

I was misdiagnosed by a specialist, which delayed my treatment and caused additional pain and trauma. The next specialist from the same discipline knew immediately that the diagnosis I had been given previously was incorrect. HCCC called my misdiagnosis "thorough" and "adequate" care.

Before making any complaints anything about healthcare, you should think of complaints about this organization first, the service is useless and the call centre people are rude, what is the meaning of (HCCC) “Health Care Cannot Complaint”??

The health law and code of conduct are looking like just the textbooks . The evidences are so clear, they breach it. I just wondering what kind of evidence makes they believe the health worker. I am going to appeal my matter, the funny thing, they said you can appeal to us! I'm going to appeal anyway.

Pretty sure I made a scathing but objective review but it seemed to vanish in thin air. This org doesn’t even deserve a star, as they are not doing their job. I made a complaint against my son’s former school counsellor, whose comments and actions did not comply with the Australian Psychological Society’s Code of Conduct. This particularly concerns the risk of harm to my son, which the counsellor, a registered psychologist, was supposed to relay to us. It was a complete breach of their guidelines, but despite documentary evidence, the HCCC chose to do nothing, not even cautioning the psychologist. They stated there are differing versions and they have no way of knowing which one was accurate—all these despite our evidence in writing. We asked to know what the psychologist said in response to our allegations; they said they couldn’t reveal her counter arguments. So how are we to know whether she was telling the truth or not, and whether she has evidence. Goodness, this isn’t ebay! Oh wait, ebay, while not letting you know the actions taken against the respondent, will at least show both parties’ allegations and statements.

Looks like most of the staff are hired through personal references, particularly all the Indians or sub-continentals. No manners whatsoever. The problem is that governments in Australia, federal or state has no statemen, they are all there just to act like celebrities, you know, they just want to look cool to win the next election and hire all these 20 yrs old to make them look cool on social media.

Most condescending patronising man I've ever come across. To think he just cuts women off half through speaking, doesn't listen an you end up repeating yourself 3x and answer to everything is "go to the hospital" yeah cause they're not completely under staffed and under resourced. Worst experience of my life. Have complained to HCC

I contacted the HCCC after a specialist medical practice refused to address my questions in regard to the PCR test and its ability to give accurate results and cut me off as a patient, refusing to to answer questions or provide scientific evidence to support their use of the test . The person who answered my initial inquiry at the HCCC completely misunderstood the nature my complaint and when i wrote a second time did not answer .I then lodged a second inquiry asking for my concerns to be addressed by another person and never received a reply .Obviously they are completely inefficient or just find the subject of my complaint too difficult to deal with .

I’m not surprised by the negative reviews here, I had made a complaint about a particular head doctor and that their program clearly destroyed my partners mental and physical state, without hearing my side of the story they just investigated through the doctors and found out they can’t do anything about my compliant! It shows that this department doesn’t really care about the healthcare system nor people who rely on it! Waste of taxpayers money!

Have to rate and so, “1”. A more apt rating is “AAA”, as in “Appalling”, “Abhorrent”, “Abysmal”. My complaint against Chris OBrien Lifehouse (COL) for the deficient medical care my daughter Kelly (22/6/89-23/9/20) endured was dismissed. This was despite comments to the contrary by the so called “investigating” officer prior to the official decision being handed down. A review of that decision, was also dismissed. That decision gave rise to me questioning issues that HCCC used to support their decision to “do nothing”. A copy of my Email to the HCCC dated 22/2/22 questioning the validity of those issues is below. My Email, was ignored by HCCC because “Our file is now closed”. A cowardly & unprofessional means of avoiding responsibility & accountability. My Email dated 22/2/22 (amended to meet character limit). “The HCCC decision to “do nothing”, confirms my understanding that the medical deficiencies Kelly endured during her stay at COL are considered irrelevant because COL have introduced changes to their “systems” to improve patient care. This negative decision is despite the fact that HCCC found that the quality of care provided to Kelly did not meet expected standards and that this was due to inadequacies in a number of the COL “systems” and procedures. HCCC are also aware of the following COL statement “did not successfully deliver sufficient analgesia to provide Kelly adequate relief to support her dignity & quality of life”. HCCC identified “inadequacies” & “shortcomings” in the COL medical care, descriptions that I find highly offensive. I &/or her close family members were with Kelly everyday and there is no doubt that “failures”, “deficiencies”, “incompetence” & “negligence” are more appropriate descriptions of the type of medical care Kelly received. As regards the so called Doctors who did not provide an acceptable level of care, no action will be taken against them because they were just “complying with the COL systems”. Blaming the “system” is a weak & pathetic “out” used to hide incompetence. If the Doctors did not have the necessary medical knowledge to recognise & address material medical care deficiencies & so blindly followed COL “systems”, they should not be employed to care for the I’ll. IF they did recognise the deficiencies but still followed flawed “systems” to the detriment of the patient, they should also not be employed in caring for the ill. So it is HCCC’s view that the Doctors are not accountable because they were following COL “systems” & COL is not accountable because they have now changed their “systems”. Am I missing something here? COL is a hospital, or at least pretends to be until it all gets too hard, when they give up & it becomes a matter of “if you are going to die, go somewhere else”. In light of the above, HCCC policy is considered shallow and superficial. HCCC own investigation (albeit absent of any interviews) found COL’s care did not meet expected standards, COL admitted they “stuffed up” by not providing adequate pain relief for Kelly & a Doctor admitted that they “gave up” during one of our meetings. All irrelevant according to HCCC because COL has demonstrated “a strong level of accountability for completing the system changes”. What a load of rubbish. What about Kelly? Where’s the justice for Kelly? Why does COL’s “strong level of accountability” negate the prolonged pain endured by Kelly because of COL incompetence? Doesn’t Kelly matter? It was only because of what COL did to Kelly that COL were forced to introduce “system“ changes. This whole depressing exercise has been a waste of time for the very fact that once I understood HCCC policy, there was never going to be any meaningful action taken against COL &/or the Doctors. Time will tell if the “system” changes have actually been introduced but more importantly if they are complied with. But HCCC would be none the wiser given there will be no monitoring. You can share this Email with COL if you wish & any other third party, as I will be doing.” My opinion of HCCC, they are a sick joke.

Disband this organisation and reconstruct one that serves the purpose of it's existence. Just because it is civil doesn't mean it is not a lowlife.
