Wow, what an unbelievable site. There are so many vendors, fresh foods and delicious treats all over this place. There are a few things to know before coming here.. Some of the vendors only accept cash, they do not allow you to TOUCH the fruit unless you are purchasing it, it says it closes at 3:00 but everything shuts down at 2:00pm. On the back there is a nice bar with a long wait to sit at where you can grab coffee or a drink. It is crowded with locals and travelers. Go early on if you want a more upbeat relaxed experience because if you go towards closing there is a rushed feel. Next to the bar is a key copying place & a place to fix leather. This market is worth checking out!

The Central Market of Valencia is one of the oldest markets still in use in Europe and has been declared a ''Heritage of Cultural Interest'' site by the Spanish Ministry of Culture. After about ten years of work it was inaugurated in the course of 1928 and decades later, in 2010, it was completely renovated. It's a popular spot among tourists as well as locals, as it’s the perfect location to immerse yourself in the heart of local culture and to get lost in its numerous aisles filled with local products.

Very lively place with tons of great spots for food, souvenirs and several other items. I particularly enjoyed the variety of typical foods, Spanish hams, cheeses and the ambience of the market. It is surrounded by restaurants and shops so it makes for a very nice area of the city.

During my visit to the Central Marketplace in Valencia, I was immersed in a vibrant atmosphere brimming with fresh produce, a variety of fish and meat, and an array of local delicacies. This marketplace is a treasure for those who seek authentic, quality products at reasonable prices. One of the highlights of my visit was the abundance of fresh produce. Each stand showcased an impressive range of fruits and vegetables, vibrant in color and enticing in freshness. The fish and meat sections were equally impressive, offering fresh, high-quality options that are perfect for any culinary enthusiast. I was particularly pleased to find an organic stand located near the fish sections. This stand exclusively sold organic produce, a real gem for health-conscious shoppers like myself. The quality and range of organic options available were truly remarkable. However, it's essential to navigate the marketplace with a discerning eye. Amongst the genuine sellers, there are tourist traps that offer overpriced sandwiches and tastings. With a bocadillo ranging from €2.50 to €4.25, it pays to be aware and compare. The prices almost seem identical for similar products, so careful observation is key to finding the best deals. The sheer size of the marketplace is another aspect worth mentioning. It houses a multitude of stands, each offering something unique. This diversity not only adds to the charm of the place but also means that there is something for everyone, regardless of your taste or budget. The Central Marketplace in Valencia is a must-visit for anyone looking to experience the local culture through food. Its vast array of fresh produce, coupled with the need to distinguish between genuine sellers and tourist traps, makes for an engaging and rewarding experience. Just remember to keep your eyes open for the best deals, and don't miss the organic stand near the fish section for some exceptional quality produce!

This market is incredible! It's probably the best indoor market I've ever visited. I'm almost lost for words. The building itself is beautiful, but it's the amazing amount of authentic working stalls inside that has to be seen to be believed. The choice of fresh seafood, vegetables, cheeses, meats, sweets, the list goes on, will take your breath away. The fact that this market serves the local community rather than pandering to the hoards of tourists adds greatly to its charm. Not to be missed.

Cool place to visit. Many many produce, meat and food stands. Great fresh products, even seafood. Building is ancient and appreciated of you need to use the 1 euro restroom in the basement. It closes at 3, so come early. Lots of samples, lots of tourists, lots to see!

This should be your number 1 place to visit whilst in Valencia if your a foodie like myself. It is simply stunning with a vast array of different shops and little restaurants inside. We spent a couple of hours here but could have stayed longer as it was so much fun. Free to enter and free to see all the beautiful types of foods from this area.

Very huge market. A lot of choices for fruits, meat, fish, cheese oil and other cool stuff. Remember to eat inside as well. Sometimes it could be overcrowded, but I think it is quite charming. Clean and good place. It is recommended to visit.

Great place to walk around, eat & drink, take pics and enjoy the vibe. It’s a great mix of locals going about their day to day market purchases and tourists. You can grab a bite to eat or get all the ingredients for any dish you have in mind! Outside are some seating areas to enjoy the sun and the treats you just purchased. Prices are fair!

Central Market Valencia is a must-visit destination for anyone who loves fresh, local food and an authentic shopping experience. The market is a bustling hub of activity where vendors offer an incredible variety of fresh fruits, vegetables, meats, seafood, spices, and baked goods. The quality of the products is outstanding and the vendors are friendly and knowledgeable, always willing to offer tips and advice on preparing and cooking their products. The market is also a feast for the eyes, with colourful displays of fresh produce and beautiful architecture that captures the essence of Valencia's history and culture. The market is conveniently located in the heart of the city and is easily accessible by public transportation or on foot. Overall, Central Market Valencia is a wonderful place to experience the local food culture and indulge in some delicious, fresh, and healthy ingredients for your meals. Highly recommended!

This place was very nice! We got this delicious candied orange there and fresh fruits and smoothies. You can’t get lunch there but tons of places to get snacks. Tons of restaurants around the outside though. The setup was just beautiful though. Definitely worth checking out!

Nice place to visit to grab some snacks and taste some of the localities. There you can buy veggies, fresh and cured meats, cheeses, oils and amazing seafood and even some jewelry. The Pescados stand was amazing, there you can get some fresh Unis ( sea urchin) and oysters 🦪 by peace and try right there with lemon. That was so yummy! We tried cheese and sausages too. As well as some really nice olive oils. Amazing place to check out if you’re a foodie and you can get some gifts too!

We called when the market was ready to close at 3pm but it was lively with vibrant fruits and plenty of variety of meat and cheese. Definitely worth calling although I would recommend earlier in the day. Plenty of restaurants nearby for a tasty lunch. Worth noting when in Valencia many places for food close between around 3-4pm and only reopen around 7.

Very clean and pretty market. From souvenirs to exotic fruits to local sweets. I would recommed the shop of Navarro for the sweets. You can taste and then choose. you can pay with card or cash. He was so attending and he even let us know to use the receipt for toilette use. All in all very nice place and muss visit.

The Central Market is one of the iconic places in Valencia. The architecture of the building itself, specially built for market trade, is noteworthy. But the most interesting thing is inside. There are fruit and vegetable rows and butcher shops with such a variety of jamon! Fish ruins are easy to find by their specific smell. But this is not the smell of a week’s catch, but a mixture of aromas of the freshest fish, octopus, cuttlefish and many more unknown sea creatures. Here you can wander around just like that, watching with interest the interactions between sellers and buyers, plunging into truly Spanish everyday life.

The Central Market in Valencia is great. It is in a very good location with lots on offer nearby, bars/ tapas/ street food, seating options a plenty. the street area around the market has lots to see with a number of vintage and artistic stalls. The indoor area is foodie heaven! With lots of local delights . And beyond that, lots of windy lanes to explore.

Huge market, but nothing particularly interesting in terms of content. By comparison to other markets in the world, this one is relatively mundane. Displays are nice but not unique or particularly aesthetically pleasing. If it's your first exposure to one of these types of markets, you'll be impressed.

Great market full of locals and great food stands. I imagine it would be even better without the covid restrictions (masks must be kept on, so you can’t really eat and walk around), but the situation is understandable.

The building itself is spectacular let alone the stalls within. It is a vast place with so much to choose from. Local delicacies like cheeses, hams, wines, sherries, olive oil, nougat. Well worth a visit and good prices for things to take home.

  • 5/5 Bart E. 2 years ago on Google
The Mercado Central is one of the oldest still working market halls in Europe. In the city center you won´t find big supermarkets as the government wants to keep this market in use for its original function. And upto know this concept is really successful as you can find all kind of fresh vegetables, fruit, sweets, meat, fish, etc. There is also a stand where you can taste some tapas and you can find some souvenirshop, but the main function is clearly an active market. The architecture is modernistic and it was one of the first buildings of the city extention since beginning of the 20th century. It has become a cathedral of steel, glass and ceramics heavily decorated with inspirations of the market. A visit of the market should surely be on your list if you visit the city of Valencia.

A number of stalls offer nibble cups for a couple of Euros,

Beautiful place! They was a tone of construction outside when I visited 2 days ago as there is in many parts if Valencia right now. But they inside is beautiful! There isn’t really any prepared food to eat there. It’s more of veggie stands, fish and meats like a deli. Great to walk around and see the locals grocery shopping.

Great market with fresh items! My only disappointment and thus the 4 star rating, was the lack of sit down tapas bars. Only one, The Central Bar and it had a substantial waiting list for a seat. Otherwise very lively and clean environment offering fresh and affordable food! A do not miss location in Valencia!

This really is a great place to just look and explore the produce especially the fish and the fresh fruit. It was great to see thr locals coming out on a Saturday morning and buying locally and being able to avoid the supermarkets. It is a bit of a building site at the moment outside but hopefully when it is finished it will be stunning. Such a lovely area too with lots of quaint and quirky shops and places to eat...Valencia is a great place to visit for a weekend or longer...so much to do and see...

I visited Valencia from the UK and this was one of the first places we went. It was raining so we thought we'd explore and take shelter. It's an enormous and beautiful market, with an amazing interior. We spent hours there just wandering through the aisles, gawping at the gorgeous fresh produce (it has everything) we ate and drank lovely bits. Make sure to try the Horchata and Fartons.

The biggest and most popular market in Valencia. We visited on two separate days to be able to see every shop. Multitude of options from trinkets and souvenirs to butchers and food stalls. If you’re a tourist looking to buy souvenirs to bring back home, this market is your one-stop shop.

Unbelievable experience! Free entrance to marketplace that sells seafood, meat, vegetables, cured meat, and much more. Give yourself at least an hour or two here - there's that much to see and savour. Very impressive selections of meat, seafood, and veg. Toilets are at the back and downstairs. You ise your credit card to gain entrance - it was 1€ when we visited - be patient, machine takes it time. Loads of opportunities for a meal inside or outside the market. An absolute must-see/-experience. Compares well with the similar market in other places such as Budapest.

Markets are a celebration of fresh produce. Here they take pride and excel in this. A stunning Cathedral for prime ingredients! Don't leave without trying something.

Fabulous market - the freshness and quality of the produce is fantastic, a wonderful place…I have had to revise my review - we tried to buy some fruit but were blanked by the stall holders, left a bit of a bad taste unfortunately. A good place to wander around though.

Fantastic market. It is crowded and pretty hot, but manageable. We had drinks for take away there and just enjoyed seeing around. It’s there where I found the best flat white with oat milk and superb cava served by glass. Lunch at Central Bar is highly advised, especially pork loin sandwich. They have queue but it moves pretty fast.

Such a wonderful market filled with all types of produce, products and food/drink options. The fresh fruit and veggies are among my favourite things to shop for, plus the Jamón, Oils, Seafood (which you can even have fresh on the spot - Incredible!), plus Spanish Charcuterie. Festive decorations were a lovely touch also!
