Visited back in 2013. Super beautiful and just amazing!! It’s definitely a must visit if you plan on visiting Venice. The square has so many beautiful shots to be taken from every angle. From the square with the two pillars From the church’s roof Of the clock tower And a stunning view of the water and St George’s church with some Gondolas in view. It’s one of the most beautiful city centres in Europe. I completely recommend it.

Famous landmark in Venice. It is both lovely in daytime as well as during evening. At daytime, depending on the viewing angle and sunlight, it exposes the beauty, craftsmanship of the landmark. However, nighttime is a totally different experience with more relax, and vibrant. Live bands from different restaurants entertain guests. It is such an experience for visitors.

Visited this place almost three years back while on the Europe trip. And was very excited to visit this place as I saw it many times in movies or documentaries. Reached the place through a ferry. The water colour was sea green and took almost 40 min to reach there. The first word when we reached there was wow. The place is absolutely awesome. It feels like a different world when we see surrounding. It was very crowded but still many things to see. We will get crowd every where but still place is very mesmerizing. At some place u can have fouling smell too. The flee market is also fascinating. The painting available for sale were really amazing. The restaurants were also on the edges where we can enjoy scenes and food. Amazing place to visit.

Just amazing!!! Must visit!! Is magic everywhere in the atmosphere, and pure art in any corner. We came for the carnal end of February, so there was a lot of interesting customs and artist acting around the square, just a little bit cold so bring something warm to enjoy without problem. Will come back any time I can.

Very Iconic, one of a kind, the only City that in my opinion anybody should see at least once in their lifetime. So frozen in history, you almost feel like time travelling while strolling down the Venice lanes. Worth visiting anytime.

Spectacular and vibrant square, just what you would expect. It was all that I imagined and more. Beautiful architecture and so many people. There are so many pictures to prepare you but the grace and magnitude of the square has to be experienced in person. Loved it!

San Marco Square is the largest and most famous square in Venice. Here you can find San Mark's Cathedral, the Doge's Palace or the mass correr. During the carnival there were a lot of people, it was difficult to get into any landmark building. Bit nonetheless, it's a fantastic city.

I am stunned to see people able to rate this site with anything else than 5 stars! This is the very top of world's beauty, this site is a myth and it rises to match its reputation. I was fortunate enough to visit it several times, walking through the pigeons and listening to the piano by the terraces, and also passing by on a big cruise ship, taking photos that could well be taken for aereals.

Renovations taking place and it's winter, so gets dark early and not many gondolas around. Better to visit in summer. Still spent the whole day in Venice and only covered about 5% of what I would have liked to. The most frustrating thing about Italy, including Venice is that there are no toilets easily available. You have to pay 1.5 Euro to use the toilet and they don't accept cards.

We had luck to be here while the carnival season was on. There was so many interesting masks showed off in parades. If you plan to visit Venice make sure it’s during the carnival and surely gotta be on this square to see it all, otherwise you are missing out on much of its beauty.

Very beautiful place with lots of history. Once upon a time this place was included in seven wonders. It's surely crowded but authorities let you enjoy the place, you can sit or go inside the church, or roam around whole day and no one's gonna disturb you. It's Christmas time so it was more beautiful. A must visit place in Venice

Way too crowded, we only went up to the top of the tower. We did not wait in line for hours, but spent the day exploring Venice on foot and by boat. The beauty of the city is in the narrow streets and family restaurants.

Vegas did a great job replicating St Mark's. But the real thing is much better. However, make sure you take the time to go inside Basilica San Marco, as it's spectacular.. Don't get that in Vegas.

This is an amazing place of much historical significance, as well as architectural wonder. It boggles the mind that this was created and built hundreds of years ago without the use of heavy equipment, computers, and modern day tools. The sheer planning that went into designing and building this can only reflect upon the genius of those people.

One of the most amazing places in the world! The canals, churches and architecture is beyond spectacular. From street vendors to churches, every inch is beyond spectacular! Walking during the day is very exhilarating. But walking at night is filled with tranquility and a sense of serenity like no where else. Gondola rides are a must! Traveling by their boat bus system is very easy and inexpensive! You can walk along the canals for hours. Shops and restaurants are superb.

Beautiful square! Make sure you take in all the details around the square. If you go early you can avoid the crowds and get photos with little to no people on them. The square is free but be sure to head up the tower for unbelievable views

This square is just wonderful, especially on a sunny day. The basilica looks just gorgeous! Around, there are plenty of restaurants and cafes. There are also small stands where Venetian masks are sold.

Sadly there are large areas closed off full of flagstones waiting to be relaid so the views right now are compromised. Generally it's a wonderful place, better to go very early in the morning or late at night to avoid the crowds.

VENICE! 😘👌 despite all its news. It is still one of the most romantic places on earth. Come in off season, in winter and during the week. Support your local stores, do not buy the cheap touristic plastic. There are some incredible beautiful hidden gems.

St. Mark's Square (Piazza San Marco) in Venice, Italy, is renowned for its beauty, historical landmarks, and vibrant atmosphere. The stunning architecture of St. Mark's Basilica and the Doge's Palace, both facing the square are highlights. Visitors appreciate the ambiance, with live music, cafes, and pigeons adding to its charm. However, due to its popularity, it can get extremely crowded, especially during peak tourist seasons, impacting the experience for some. Overall, it's considered a must-visit in Venice for its architectural beauty and as the cultural center of the city.

It's a must, you can take an elevator to the top, especially in late afternoon seeing the sun going down beyond your imagination. One of the best scenery. By the way if you plan to visit Venezia(Venice), plan for the afternoon time during weekday because less visitors and the scenery are so gorgous-the light-sun going down and nice breeze............

We arrived during the festival, beautiful interesting costumes added to the atmosphere here. Stage needs to be set higher so performance can be seen by children. Many tourists and group guides. We stopped for a drink and ice cream, ridiculously expensive for what it is, I would recommend you stop elsewhere.

Very busy, constructions going on around the main building. Lack of garbage bins in the area and some info signs. We advise to take the private water taxi from Santa Lucia station with 60€ directly to the square, was unforgettable memory.

The place is less crowded at night. But it is not as happening since the light is minimum. However, it is still a good experience. Better go here during day time.

Due to the impact of covid 19, it was very quiet, but this allowed more time to enjoy the view from the tower and marvel at the Basilica. We had a short queue to get into the basilica - definitely worth the wait to see the interior. Well worth going to the Arsenale area after taking in the sights, as it's much quieter and a nice change after the hustle and bustle of the square.

Very well organised as when the tide comes in the square pretty much gets covered with water. They put elevated walkways that make it easy to walk around the square.

It seems like that all roads in Venice lead to this square. As one of most famous spots in Venice, it is always crowded with people. Personal suggestion is to visit square early in morning around 6/7 in order to capture true beauty of it.

The most iconic place in Venice, where everyone comes to take a picture and enjoy the view. Usually it's very crowded, but during the pandemic has become acceptable.

No words are needed to describe this place. There is no person that comes to Venice without visiting this square. Venice is a beautiful place, and this square, and it's history are absolutely amazing. I recommend also going up to the tower (it's around 10euros) and enjoying the square and the city from above.

After sunset this place is not as overcrowded as in the afternoon. The dusk reveals a nice scenery. Don't eat at the restaurants here during summer time. It's nothing but expensive and not worth the money. You will find much better food on the way to the railway station.

Must visit in Venice with so many key landmarks. Take time to read the panels located around the square to know the history behind the famous buildings. Also you can take almost all the beautiful pics around here. Just be careful of typical tourist traps and pickpockets as usual.

Was nice,it was very windy and it was the coldest place in Venice. You can walk it from the station if you like walking otherwise catch a boat for San Marco from Ferravio station.Walking us a pleasure but it is typical to reach there. Amazing restoration work going on,you are not allowed to sit and eat here.A good place to book a gondola. We enjoyed this place the most in Venice. For photography this is a delight and we took a lot of pictures.

I've seen it during the carnival. It's the main attraction and definitely crowded. The prices are also higher than other places in Venice and the quality is less. But it's 5 stars because it's a must see while you are in Venice. It's very nice.

A beautiful square, fu of life and beautiful buildings. It was the last point of my day in Venice and it closed it magically. Unfortunately the basilica is under some repairs, so it was not open and had a bit of its view compromised, but still looked amazing.

  • 5/5 Gary T. 1 year ago on Google
One of the most beautiful central squares we’ve visited in Europe! The place was clean and not overly busy although this was back in Aug 2020 with the pandemic so that was a major factor for sure! Obviously all of the restaurants are super pricey within the square but that’s expected. Be sure to walk around here both day and night to fully experience it’s magic.

  • 5/5 TZ 1 year ago on Google
Lovely place to visit with family, friends or in couples. One can relax at the Square by either sitting at the restaurants and listen to the live classical music, or can sit around the square and buy your own drinks or food and chill. Either way you will enjoy. Evenings are pretty and romantic 😍

Venice in itself is a great experience! By day or night, it is beautiful! St Mark's square has something for everyone. The food here is great and service so attentive. It's great to enjoy outdoor eating without the car pollution. There is always something to see or visit. Great shops and lots of Murano glass to buy. A must location for your Italy trip.

  • 5/5 Darina B. 1 year ago on Google
I was surprised: no crowd! A small line to the cathedral and no line to ‘skip the queue’ entrance. 11am, 3rd March. Divine and mysterious atmosphere at the square plus best shots from San Marco’s gallery.

Focal point of Venice. Early mornings and late evening are best time to enjoy the square and the open sea. Doge's Palace and Basilica on one side and Mueseo Correr (with National Archaeological) on the other end can take an entire day.

  • 5/5 Hassan A. 1 year ago on Google
This square is open to the sea, there are free tables and seat at night. I would recommend to go and sit and have some snacks or drinks while enjoying the sea.

  • 2/5 briantravelman 1 year ago on Google
I know this place is so iconic and the architecture is beautiful, of course, but it's always so crowded, which completely ruins the vibe of the place. But even aesthetically, there are smaller squares in Venice that are FAR nicer and not packed to the brim with tourists and street vendors. It's one of places you feel obligated to see, but this was honestly my least favorite place in the whole city.

Not much one can say about San Marco Square. Beautiful as ever! I was back in Venice after many years and was lucky to find sun and clear sky. More tourists than expected but we are in the Carnival period now 😀

Just go ahead and remove this from your bucket list and DO IT. When you stand in San Marco Square, Italy comes alive. There is no place on Earth that you will have the satisfaction of having 800 years of preserved historical buildings situated 360 degrees from your view in the Square.

  • 5/5 Giorgio S. 1 year ago on Google
You don’t need to pay to see San Marco’s square. It is an incredible place to see. I do recommend to go in the bell tower and the cathedral if they are open. Those places may have lines to go in and I don’t remember the cost. It is very nice to have a coffee or a drink in the square and may be listens to live music. Not all the restaurants will have outdoor seating depending on the weather.

Words won’t fully describe how amazing it is and if you are visiting Venice from elsewhere, you made it, enjoy the views and everything Venice has to offer. St Marks square should be on your bucket list if you are visiting here. You can also get to the top of the tower.

Absolutely amazing historic plaza. We didn't go into the buildings due to long lines however. I assume early morning would be best time to visit.

  • 5/5 Gareth R. 8 months ago on Google
Really nice place to visit, very very crowded in the main points of interest, but once slipped down a side street it was a lot easier to move around, food places better value for money there as well, ride on the Gondola is a must, fixed prices so you know the cost before hand, there are several places to catch the Gondola's so if there is a big queue for one just move on along the front until you find one without a queue, from memory there are hundreds of Gondola's all privately owned by the person using it and they all work for around 6 different operators out there, so pricing is all the same.

  • 5/5 Mat B. 9 months ago on Google
The “most” place to visit once you’re in Venice. In lucky days you can it flooded at some places. Live music all over the places creating memorable atmosphere. Recommended to visit during morning and late evening to skip huge traffic and long queues.

Like the basilicas, cathedrals in the big cities of Italy, St. Mark's Basilica was made very magnificent and very beautiful. The decoration looks very complicated. The shape does not look like a European Italian basilica in general. It's just that it's crowded with people so it's uncomfortable to enjoy it.

  • 5/5 Graham T. 9 months ago on Google
If a bell tower visit is chosen, a short wait for a €10 elevator trip to the bells at the top is required ,although for extra a queue jumping ticked can be bought. Waited about 10 minutes if that, for a spectacular 360 view over the whole of Venice. Fabulous.

  • 5/5 Karen R. 9 months ago on Google
Really beautiful. The buildings around St Mark’s Square are super impressive, with their stunning architecture and awe-inspiring engineering. I visited in June and it was pretty hot, and VERY busy. I should imagine the evening would be a better time to visit. There are plenty of food stalls and restaurants dotted around the dock, but many are quite expensive, so beware!

The main square to visit in Venice. You can find St. Marks Basilica, Bell Tower and Clock Tower, and more. Restaurants and retail shops all around the square, and a bunch of museums / galleries to visit. This place is usually full of tourists, so if you want to take some nice private photos / enjoy the quiet, I would recommend being at the square at 7-8am. If the weather permits, a lot of the restaurants at the square will play live music in the patio area for everyone to enjoy. I would say watch out for the tourists traps, you can find them all around the square.

The most famous square of Venice which is surrounded by the most important attractions of the city. There is a wide variety of shops and restaurants around it that are worth mentioning. Better to leave them early in the morning to avoid the crowds. The projects that take place in the square lose something of its glamour. We arrived around 10am and it was 36 degrees Celsius and the atmosphere stifling.

You can't miss this place when visiting Venice. The Square is huge with many restaurants, shops, and live music. Sitting there and watching people are also pleasant. Since it's close to the river, it's refreshing and relaxing there. The structure of the Church is worth a visit, you only pay 3 euro to go inside and additional 7e to visit the museum.

  • 5/5 Ryon C. 7 months ago on Google
Awesome panoramic views of the city and surrounding islands. Line is in open sun grab a drink before hand if the line is long. No limit as to how long you can stay atop the tower, though they only let people go up based on how many people come down. Skip line tickets available as well.

We were completely taken over by Venice. We parked in front of the bridge to the old town and took the bus to Piazzale Roma, from where we walked to the S. Toma water station, from where we took the boat to Piazza San Marco. Beautiful, crowded but less than expected, hot...go there in spring or autumn. A very nice place in general, it has a special energy.

Good place to take pictures, but expect a big crowd when you go here. Also, wear boots. I'm not sure if it's always flooded, but during my visit, platforms were installed because of the flood.

Gorgeous. We were here in the off season, and even then it was crowded at times. The aqua Alta is easy to avoid and they put out ramps so you usually don’t need boots etc to get through, but it’s something to be aware of.

One of the most beautiful places on earth. We spent 4 days here and it was no where near enough. The basilica is beautiful. Take in as much as possible, but don't be in a hurry. A guided tour is definitely worth the money spent.

My trip to Venice, simply awesome! We caught such a great time, sunny but not extremely hot. We had plenty of time to visit Venice but once we reached San Marco square everything exploded with history around us. Amazing architecture, pleasant and beautiful. I urge you to visit at least once in your lifetime.

Picturesque. We came during the carnival days so we saw lots of people dressed up and local events. Jaw dropping scenery and architecture. Can get very busy but had an amazing time. Definitely one of the key spits in Venice to look and explore around.
