Godel was one of the friendliest cashiers I’ve ever met! He needs a $100 raise, like now. This was my first time visiting and he was a great introduction to this restaurant. The portions were generous which I highly appreciated because although it was expensive, it made me feel as though I got my money’s worth. Anything less would feel a bit like a rip off. The food was sooo good that I had to remind my self to breathe while I was eating. Had enough to devour the next day for breakfast (because I couldn’t wait till lunch). As a vegetarian foodie from the south, I 100% approve this place. The ambience here was beautiful. It was so nice to see so many black people dining in and enjoying vegan food! I love what this place stands for and what it’s doing for our community!!! ✊🏽❤️

Was at the NuVegan Cafe with my wife and kids. Everyone enjoyed their food. The Black Bean Burger was well done and all the sides look well crafted. I didn’t liked the loud music.

We arrived shortly after opening with one person in front of us. The music they played Kiyona waited on us with so much patience as we were a little slow to give our order due to all the great looking choice. Tried a few things: curry, mac and cheese, chicken salad, Caribbean chick pea salad, and broccoli florets. My friend decided to go with the curry after sampling with their 2 sides being okra, cabbage, and cornbread. I ordered the mango habanero fried chicken sandwich with fries. The picture doesn't do the sandwich justice. If you can guess, I'm a fan of mango so of course I got the mango juice which was amazing. When we got to the register we saw all the sweets and added a cookie and cake. The total was $55.66. I would go back to try the brunch, different sandwich selections, and the chicken salad. We ordered the mumbo chicken sandwich to go. You will be happy you ate here. Parked on the street and was in and out in an hour.

Vegan restaurants tend to be a bit pricey no matter what city they are in, so the prices were pretty much expected. Being from Texas, I am used to meal/plate options. However, they only offered a la carte, which can be good if you are with a group and want to share with others. The portions were large, what one would expect with a la cart, but too much for a person traveling alone. The plate option would have been better for me as I was in town visiting. It appears that they use a lot of soy options for meat substitutes, which may be a problem for those who try to keep soy out of their diet. For those who don't mind, they did a pretty good job with the chicken drumetts, the okra and tomatoes was my least favorite; too salty (taste like seasoning and salt were used) and undercooked for my preferences. Also, there were very few tomatoes. However, some people like their okra crunchy so it is a matter of preference. The collard greens were perfect! I absolutely loved them. Next time I am in D.C. I will make a stop just for the greens. The restaurant was very clean with plenty of seating.

First time visiting NuVegan while here in DC. Easy to find, street parking available. Good music, plenty of seating, all food looked very fresh and good. The 2 guys working were very polite greeted me as soon as I walked in. I went with the country fried steak and mac n cheese. Both were delicious, just wish the steak had gravy, I didn't ask maybe they have some. I will definitely visit again to try alot more of the menu as I travel to DC pretty often.

Fell off so bad, I remember my first time trying nuvegan I was obsessed I made trips to Dc almost every weekend, things slowly started to get worst and worst. Ordered today with DoorDash and could Not believe how bad it was, The country fried steak, the breading was non existent. Literally taste like a plain piece of tofu. The lasagna was 95% vegan meat no pasta. The crab cake sandwich was so dry, Just really disappointing

We were visiting DC and are vegan. The food was pretty good. I wouldn’t say it would have a very high health score the meat substitute TVP. The ribs are TVP with barbecue sauce and the cheesesteak was seasoned TVP. They were out of sweet potatoes and rolls for the cheesesteak so they put it in a wrap and if this happens to you I would suggest not getting the wrap. The Mac & Cheese was really good. We also got broccoli that was , careot salad and collard greens. The carrot salad was vinegar based and the texture was strange. The collards didn’t have much flavor.

The food here was really good. I usually DON'T eat vegan food, but tried it because my sister does eat vegan. I must say that I was pleasantly surprised.....the food was really, really good!! I even bought desserts such as peach cobbler & a cinnamon roll which is HUGE!! I would definitely go back here when I'm in the DC area.....they made me a believer in vegan food.

Really nice vegan cafe with entrees and hot/cold side dishes to choose from. You can choose to have a side dish with your entree or simply just take an entree as every dish is individually priced which gives a lot to flexibility to everyone and something to bear in mind while you order! We love their vegan drumsticks and always go back for those and their tofu side dishes are well made too!

I came up from Alexandria and was so excited to try this place out with the great reviews. It was a huge let down. The chicken breading had a good texture but entirely lacked seasoning. The inside of the chicken also had good texture and held up well with the wooden dowel "bone" but again, lacked seasoning. The greens were just salted, no smoked Paprika, garlic or onion to be tasted at all. The Mac n cheese was like macaroni noodles and some sort of either cashew ricotta or a soft tofu, so it didnt give you that mac n cheese vibe. The flavor was almost there but again lacked any pop. The cinnamon roll was dense as if they didn't allow the dow to rise or they didn't use enough yeast. Additionally, it was dry and almost hard, I found it difficult to cut with a knife. I won't be going here again or recommending it, it just doesn't hit the mark. Hip City Veg is the place to go in the D.C. area for vegan food.

We really enjoyed our visit to NuVegan cafe and would love to go back! We tried the Mac & Tofu, Chicken't drumsticks, Collard Greens and a slice of oreo pie, it's fantastic comfort food and portions are generous! Mains and sides are sold separately, so we paid around $20 for a main and 2 sides, on the upside this gives you more flexibility on what to have although it may be a bit daunting the first time around. It would be great if the option to eat in did not use disposable materials and so much plastic!

Restaurant has great food and the staff is very professional!. Everyone was treated with kindness. The only room for immediate improvement is there being no air conditioner, only stand alone fans. It was so hot we couldn’tstay to finish our meal. Staff was visibly soaking in sweat, but they pushed through it I don’t even know how. Hopefully this was just a temporary A/C malfunction. The bathroom was also not in any condition for anyone to use. I could smell it before reaching its area. With no A/C, clean bathrooms for staff and patrons is a must. I barely wanted to wash my hands. But again, this wouldn’t stop me from returning or recommending the restaurant to others, as the customer service and food were good and prepared well.

We went here before 7PM and the place closes at 8PM. There were very few choices. We got BBQ Tofu, Drummies and Mac n cheese. Drummies was good, didn't like the BBQ taste, Mac n cheese was just okay. Food was barely warm. Staff was friendly but it seemed to be their policy to close the kitchen around 7PM, we had the only premade items to choose from. Wanted to like this place, but sadly disappointed. Might try again.

I got chicken drummies, okra, and Mac and cheese. The potions are huge. This will make several meals. Everything is very tasty and delicious. The wait staff were very helpful. The facilities were spotless. My first visit. Will surely return.

I really wanted to like this due to all the great reviews, but I was not a fan. I’m giving some more stars because the staff was very nice, the atmosphere was great, and I loved the music. I tried the Mac and Cheese, Chicken, and Collard Greens. They all tasted like they had a boatload of salt in it. I couldn’t even finish a decent portion of my meal because the taste of all that sodium was overpowering the food. It wasn’t hot either. The chicken also had a pretty rubbery texture and I didn’t feel like it imitated real chicken as much as some other vegan chicken I’ve tried. It kind of felt like I was chewing on elastic the way the pieces were getting caught in my teeth. I also tried the Cinnamon Roll which was probably the upside of my meal. But, even that tasted like a mound of sugar and pretty dry/hard. I could’ve done without the meal, personally. Though, I still think it’s good to have this option for those who are vegan or not. I just wish they didn’t overcompensate on the salt/sugar.

I have been dying to try this place. I live in a neighboring county with zero vegan options. My mind was blown!! I stepped in to warm welcoming environment and promptly greeted. I told the young lady behind the counter that it was my 1st time visiting the establishment and she said sample anything you like!! I tell you I purchased everything I sampled!! I came by myself and left with the crab cake sandwich along with 4 other sides including the amazing chicken salad. The food is amazing. I wanted enough for 2 days. Please do yourself and your taste buds a favor and give thos place a shot, vegan or not!! Parking is a challenge so plan accordingly!! I wish I had pics of the food but it was smashed immediately 🤣 Items purchased: Crab cake, chicken salad, garlic kale, noodle salad, okra and tomatoes, cabbage and peanut butter cookie.

I ordered only for the cinnamon rolls. I did order other items. When I get the items, the cinnamon rolls were missing. I called to ask if there was a mistake with packing or if they were out, and they immediately put me on hold for 5 minutes. I call back a few more times, and then I get a pick up and then was told that I was going to be on hold again. I was on hold for 10 minutes and nobody will pick up. As a long time patron, I am pretty disappointed.

Second time dining here about a year apart. Also been to the one in Bmore. Not crazy about the take out platters being given when you're dining in. Just feels awk to unpack the food you just ordered at the counter. Tried the chicken and waffles on the Sunday brunch menu and was underwhelmed. The chicken was thick and tender, but paired with a cold, crunchy waffle was kinda painful to eat. I don't like grits, but am determined to keep trying them for some reason. These weren't bad, but still tasted...gritty. The sweet potato cheesecake and blueberry scones were pretty good.

Generous portions could easily feed 3 people. I love the mac, collards, sweet potatoes. Everything is awesome. Ask for a sample to try before buying it if youve never had it.

Food is amazing but their service is horrible. I placed a delivery order and immediately called in to provide packaging instructions. (Delivery app doesn't allow for meals to have the sides added) As I'm trying to identify my order and then provide the name the employee abruptly states they can't package it since my order been sitting since 4pm. Keep in mind I ordered my food at 6pm. Once she realizes her error she corrects it. Fast forward to delivery person picking up the food. They inform him they don't have my order. Food is entirely too good for service to be this horrendous.

We enjoyed the food so much there but we didn’t enjoy the service. The lady who was serving the food had the worst attitude ever, and my friends tried to cheer her up and at one point she laughed then she was like “ no I will keep my attitude”.

It wasn't what I expected, they gave me the wrong sandwich and the food was just, simple. I will say the yams were great though. Veggie medley is ehh

While visiting the DC area, I researched the top vegan places to hit up while visiting- low and behold, Nu Vegan, is ranked one of the best in all of DC metro area. WoW, wow, WOW. I am speechless how AMAZING there food is! I have been all over the USA visiting vegan places, and Nu Vegan now holds in the top 5 BEST vegan places I have ever been too. It is like a cafeteria style, which really works well when busy. They have all the food ready to go in cold case or hot bar section, and a frver as well. You can pick whatever side or entree vou want, or as many as you want. Once you get your pickings, you pay at the counter and sit down and grub down! Everything is creamy, rich, heavy, fried goodness to make your dreams come true, but veganized! I got the vegan drummies (trying to be like fried chicken wings), vegan potato salad, and their vegan mac & cheeze. The fried chicken has got to the BEST mock meat I have ever tried. It was filling, had that satisfying chicken texture but NOT being chicken. It was fried to perfection and even had a large wooden "bone" inside so you have to eat around it like chicken- pretty neat. I dipped them in their house made ranch- which has got to be the best vegan ranch I have ever had as well. The potato salad was creamy, flavorful and satisfying. Their vegan mac & cheeze was delish and had a great cheesy texture to it. For dessert we brought home the red velvet cake slice, which was just as wonderful as the rest of the foods. The cake was thick, super moist, and the icing was thick, plentiful and the perfect amount of creamy VS sweet. Let me begin to tell you how BIG the portions are. They give you so much you will have left overs- which is great, you will want leftovers. I just have so many great things to say about this place. If you are hunting for GOOD, vegan junk food- this is the right place for you. They have a large selection of food, so if you come with a large group, everyone will find something to make them happy. They know how to master great vegan grub here... yummmmm

I've been vegetarian for 2 months and my taste buds were tired of the same stuff. I decided to try NuVegan and this place restored my faith. This is the best vegan food in the area hands down!!

One of my favorite restaurants in DC!! Their Mac and cheese is to die for, I always want to try new dishes but it’s so hard not to get chicken drummies with a side of the Mac and cheese every time. I am vegan but my boyfriend is not and he loves to come here as much as he does any restaurant that has actual chicken, it’s that good!!

I must admit, I don't often leave reviews, but after my third visit to Nuvegan, I can't help but share my positive experience. They have consistently delivered both in flavor and customer service. It's become a Friday ritual for me to swing by after work, and I'm always greeted warmly by the female manager. Her friendly attitude and always offering samples when I get indecisive not only make me want to return, but also encourages me to explore different menu options. Without a doubt, the Mac n cheese has won my heart as a favorite! Yesterday, I decided to try their drink selection. The same manager asked about my flavor preferences and recommended the lemon and ginger drink. It was not only refreshingly healthy but really flavorful. It’s her knowledge about the food and the way she communicated that I really appreciated. Personally, not only was the food and drinks amazing but it’s the consistency that makes me want to keep coming back. What I realized is a personalized experience really helps any customer to keep coming back!!

Struggled to find vegan food in USA and I he few I did find were what I think of as “beans and lentils” types, so was very happy to find NuVegan. Really tasty food, wide choice, generous portions and inexpensive. Staff were lovely too. Left one star off for atmosphere as loud music isn’t our thing.

The customer service was good. The staff was nice. This place has the best Mac and cheese! This place easily ranks number one for Mac and cheese nobody else can compare. The Mac and cheese does look different BUT the taste it all the way there. I also ordered some sweet potatoes and a cheeseburger which was also delicious. I definitely will be back.

Ok so im not a vegan but I know I want to eat less meat so I came here for the first time today and honestly I’ve never met people so excited to have me try their dishes. I must have tried like 6 things they suggested and they were all amazing. It made me a believer in veggies. I love the red wine kale (sweet kale). Chiken salad, drums, and garlic kale. So excited to try the crab cakes next. Also really amazing customer service. The young lady, Jasmi, and gentlemen, Kevin, behind the counter were really friendly and helpful and went out of their way to assist me when they found out it was my first time. Thank you!

Solid 4.5 rating! Interesting vegan restaurant that allows you to sample the food before ordering which is very helpful! The food is behind a glass case, cafeteria style in metal bins, and the workers fill take out containers with the food you order. The servings are generous and neither of my 18 year old twins could finish their dinners. One of my sons rated it 5 stars and the other 4 stars… wish there was a 1/2 star rating as well = 4.5 stars. We are visiting DC and this beautiful city has no shortage of amazing vegetarian/vegan eateries which NuVegan Cafe is among! PS the Vegan Chick’n Drummies were the highlight of their NuVegan Cafe experience.

I had an incredible experience at NuVegan in DC! This restaurant deserves a solid 5 stars. The food was not only delicious but also completely plant-based, which made it a perfect choice for a vegan like me. But what truly set this place apart was Cordell's exceptional customer service. He went above and beyond to make sure my meal was perfect, and his knowledge of the menu and recommendations were spot on. Thanks to Cordell and the entire team at NuVegan for making my visit memorable. I’ll definitely be returning soon!
