Ok, let me get this out of the way. The check-in process was a nightmare. You weren’t allowed to check in before 3pm and we unfortunately arrived at 2 so we were made to wait. We decided to wander for an hour since we couldn’t wait in the parking lot. Returned at 3 and the line to get in was unbelievable. It took over half an hour. Anyway, the campground was great. Bathrooms and shower rooms were fantastic. Very clean and taken care of. The sites were a bit close together but actually it was surprisingly quiet. Once we saw how packed it was we thought it was going to be a mess, but we had a very nice stay. We would definitely stay here again and recommend to others.

The Lake Macatawa Campground is great. The Pines side has more trees and shady sites. The Woodstock side has sunnier sites and less trees. It’s about a 1/4 mile sidewalk to the beach at Lake Michigan. You can see the The Big Red lighthouse across the channel to the south. Plan on hiking to the top of Mt Pisgah for the sunset or heading to the beach at Lake Michigan. Give yourself extra time, everyone else is thinking the same thing. Just a few tips to make your life easier. Expect long lines to beach on hot summer days, sunset and weekends. (Bike or Walk if you can, or plan on arriving before 9 am). This park is very quiet at night, which I love! It has mostly families with kids and campers that are respectful of others. If there are loud campers, Rangers do enforce quiet hours, and alcohol isn’t allowed. Pets of any kind are not allowed on the designated swimming beach, or in the water. (Unless it is a Real Service Animal, however still need to be leashed and attended at all times) The Designated swimming area is the area between the parking lot and Lake Michigan. You can have pets along the channel and on the pier. Ask a Ranger if you have questions! Always attend to your dog and keep them on a leash. You don’t want your dog to be the one that chases after that baby deer or animal and hurts it in front of everyone. (If you are looking for a spot to take your dog swimming “google Ottawa County Kirk Park” they have specific hours that allow dogs on the beach.)

Location, location, location! For reference, my husband & I stayed 4 nights in July 2023 in our 40 ft motorhome. The park is in a premium location and walking/biking distance to the beach, restaurants & shopping. We rented bikes from Oak Grove Campground for 2 days and loved riding around the beautiful town. The big red lighthouse is a short walk from the park and a great place to watch the sunset. The sites are decently spaced apart and level. If you’re lucky enough, they have some full hookup sites. We were in corner spot #159 (50 amp hookup only). Things to know: cell service was good, there are a lot of tent campers and families with small kids, the park is strict on their noise policy and does night patrols. If you’re ever in the area, I highly recommend this campground.

Sites were pretty wooded, and shaded. Beach sites were close but not crowded and had easy beach access. The beach, ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. Water was warm, it was all sand, and super shallow. Even like 25 feet away from shore and it was maybe 4 feet deep. All time favorite Michigan beach.

The beach was beautiful 😍. The water had a little algae but the tide took care of that for the most part. It is a beautiful place to relax, take in some sun, and live your best beach life 10/10

Nice service at the entry. Restroom and showers nice. Some sites are better than others. Most sites not level. No alcohol policy stinks, but it's probably because one party had to ruin it for all. It's unfortunate a 50 year old veteran can't sit by a campfire and enjoy 1 beer.

Beautiful State park with a pier and lighthouse, nice sand dunes and beautiful long grasses cover the dunes, has a large bathroom area and changing rooms and outdoor showers, an area to watch the boats go in and out of Lake Michigan and two walking paths to help you get all of your gear out to the beach. There is a small kids park with swings and volleyball nets. Been coming here for 35 years and I still love it!

It's a beautiful, well maintained campground, about a mile from the beach on Lake Michigan, and very close to Lake Macatawa. Bathroom and shower facilities are wonderful, and well kept. There are many activities nearby, within walking or biking distance. The campground is quiet, plenty of shade, but also partial sun. It's our second year camping here, and we'll definitely be back.

Nice State Park campground. We stayed in the wooded half, not the beach. There were nice shade trees over half the campground and the bathroom and showers in that half was very nice! They were holding a Halloween event with campsite decorating contest, coffee and donuts, and trick or treating for the kids, also. There is a LOT of road noise audible in the campground, so it's not the quietest option.

This is a state park in Lake Michigan. They have 2 piers you can walk out on when the water is acting up. It was closed the day I went. The wind was blowing and the waves were coming in nice. The park was nice though we really only saw the beach and pier area. They have a cool lighthouse and a plaque explaining the history of the lighthouse. The park seemed well kept and clean and the scenery was awesome. There was a playground area for the kids. If you like being outside, around the water and beach, this was a beautiful place to visit. I would recommend going and checking it out if you are in the area. It would be amazing in the summer for summer fun too.

Great campground with a short drive to the beach, which is beautiful! I did want to mention one thing that affected our "camping party"; we had read you could check in early if your campsite was vacant. **This is not true anymore** at this campground in Holland Michigan anyway. *Check in is at 3. No exceptions - even if your site is free.

Broad, deep sandy beach with restrooms and concessions. Expect a slight traffic backup at entry, though there was plenty of parking and space on the beach.

Good but to in the city. Stayed for a week. Many hiking trails!

Great location- the lake is across the road from the campground. Close to Holland which is unique with windmills, etc. Lake Michigan was a 4 min. drive. Campground does not have full hookups, which would definitely be a plus.

Great beach with lots of fun things to do. They have an ice cream/merch shop, along with volleyball nets and plenty of space to set up. It gets really busy during the holidays (4th of July, memorial day, labor day) but generally is very easily accessible.

Huge beach at reasonable price for the day. Walk out to end of pier. Very accessible. Great swimming areas. Good parking. Perfect family day at the beach!

We stayed at the non beach camp ground. Plenty of shade at the back. Clean facilities. Pretty hike on the dunes, close to the lake. Book early.

We enjoyed being close to the beach. Our E-bikes were perfect on the many bike paths around the area. Our hike had a beautiful Overlook as a reward, Our campsite was nice, but was next to the main road for the beach. Noisy motor heads had the only disappoint. Nice two day stay.

One of my absolute favorite state parks. We stayed in the beachfront campground and loved being SO close to the water. The beach, the lake, the sun are what life's all about. Great park with very helpful employees.

Lots of parking (though is often full early-midafternoon during the summer). A beautiful beach with soft sand to use for walking or tanning. A pier jetting into the water, which you're totally not supposed to jump from. Deep water with regular shallow waves. A snack stand, toilets, and changing space. Nearby ice cream stands and other restaurants. TL;DR - I'd go again.

Holland State Park is wonderful. The facilities are good and you can get by using 30 amp service for your 50 amp coach, but you will have to utilize power and water management if you stay for a week or more. This is a beatiful beach and sunsets will wow you. The electric needs an update as 50 amp service is becoming the norm.

Great camping. Full or partial hookups. Inland and beach sites. Beach parking lot is huge with a restaurant and gifts. Definitely bring your bikes if camping here. The town of Holland looks very fun!

Love going to the beach every summer with family. Even this year with all the regulations it was still so much fun.

It's a great beach but unfortunately a couple of things keep it from getting 5 stars. There are no amenities, such as public showers or wash stations for your feet. The restrooms are also lacking. Easy things to fix but for some reason nobody appears interested to make the additions. Very frustrating walking back to the car and finding out that you're about to take a lot of sand back with you.

Beautiful lake view, beaches felt safe and people were spaced out. Bathrooms could have been better but the park + view is nice. We kayaked across the bay and then went to the state park afterwards. What a fun time!

The beach is pretty nice. It has plenty of space to socially distance from other people. Need to be able to get cars in a little faster.

We camped in an RV at the state park and enjoyed our time here. When you enter the campground there are sites on the left, and sites on the right. The ones when you turn left have t Fewer trees and less privacy, if you can, book sites on the right side of the main entrance, further from the beach. Some of these sites were beautiful and private. The facilities were fine, they were clean and had hot water. Our site did not have a water hookup. There is a nice little hike through the woods, we saw a mother deer and her two fawns, as well as a pair of pileated woodpeckers. There is a boardwalk tower that has a nice view of the beach and lighthouse. The beach was 1.2 miles away... we were able to bike there with our 4 and 6 year old with very few problems. The beach is nice but the water was stunningly cold, even in August. The campground has a park the kids enjoyed. While we were there everyone was respectful and quiet at night.

Gorgeous state park. I enjoyed the beach and the view of the lighthouse. Do not come here if you want to walk right up to the lighthouse- it is on the other side of the harbor. Plenty of parking! Nice seating areas, and a pavillion. Not much shade.

If you like KOA - style camping that comes with a gorgeous but crowded beach, then this place is for you. Escape the horses by taking the hiking trails, which are about a mile in total. The trails are in deep wooded dunes with a lovely view atop the highest dune. If the campground is full, I hope you brought your own potty!

Great place to stay. Clean facilities and campsites. Sites are spaced out so it doesn't seem overcrowded. Rates are fair and local business are affordable for a family. Plenty of activities to do on or near the lake. Family activities include hiking, biking, boating, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, swimming and exploring. Well recommended for family camping.

👍👍 My spouse and I enjoyed this trail hike immensely. The stairs will kill you, that’s for sure. But the views are worth it :-) just FYI the maps are not drawn to scale at all so the stairs will take the longest and the actual hike does not take very long.
