👍👍 About a mile-long hike round-trip from its own parking lot (which is supposedly connected to the lot leading to Ottawa & Kaskaskia Canyons, but we found that trail to be quite overgrown toward the end of June this year). Though we did start off here relatively early in the morning (about 9:00), I su...

👍👍 Beautiful nature preserve. Very quiet and serene! Wonderful easy hiking trails and I was told a great birders location. I met a friendly and welcoming gentleman at the entrance who gave me a lot of great info and background on the Parklands Foundation... who was volunteering that day to work up supp...

French Canyon image

French Canyon
Hiking area
👍👍 French Canyon and St lois were the best and there's something mystic about them both. I even liked the French Canyon more than the other one. The canyon is closer to the Lodge Hotel. The only thing is that yo reach to it, you need to walk very close to a little spring and you might slip, so just be...

👍 We did all the trails today and only came across 3 trees across the trail. A previous review mentioned stinging nettles so long pants were worn and worthy. We also took a picture of the map at the parking area for reference. Beautiful preserve.

St Louis Canyon Falls

👍👍 Perfect little hike with our dogs to see a beautiful canyon and waterfall. It's 1.5 miles in to St. Louis Canyon. You can continue on to see other canyons. We don't have time for that today but we'll definitely come back!

👍👍 A hidden local treasure this Starved Rock park full of superb groomed trails maintained for safety. Huge crowds during active weekends mean these side trails are a good choice and a wonderful natural experience. Just driving through the park is a sight to behold. Be careful, lots of over-the-centerl...

Illinois & Michigan Canal State Trail

🫤 Almost every trail (not like there's a clearly marked map or anything) is closed off, leaving nothing cool to see. I'm sure it's still great for jogging locals, but if you want to see cool ruins, there's only 2 small bridges open .

Lake of the Woods Bike Path image

Lake of the Woods Bike Path
Hiking area
👍👍 Nice bike path through the prairie part of Lake of the Woods. One big hill in the middle, the rest mostly level. The west ends of the path is a dead end, so you have to go back the same way, or continue on a country road and take a narrow bridge over the interstate to get back to Mahomet. The east e...
