Jackson Falls
Hiking area
ππ Awesome area to explore, the hiking trails aren't too well marked but if you have common sense you should be able to follow them. Best time to arrive is early spring after rain to see the falls flowing. During the week these trails are not busy in the slightest.

Dixon Springs State Park
State park
π Yes, the campground has pit toilets. If you can handle those, it's a great place to relax and observe nature. We saw an owl hunting at dusk, three deer wandering in the morning, weird moths. There's a swimming pool open in the summer daytime hours and the bathrooms near there have running water. The...

ππ Ordered dinner for my family during our stay in Golconda. Didnβt realize the place was cash only until I arrived with only a credit card and not enough cash to cover the meal. The staff was extremely courteous and friendly and a guy at the bar paid for the short tab so my family could have their d...

If you know what you're looking for you will see Native American writings/drawings, shelter, places of worship, petroglyphs and petraglyphs. This place has more than most even know about. Even the locals are being shown new disc...

Lake Glendale Recreation Area
Campground
ππ Lake Glendale includes a nice lake with access for fishing, swimming, hiking, and camping near the shore. Despite the state's budget problems the area is well maintained. It is possible to circumambulate the lake on the main trail. This is a good area for observing wildflowers and birds. We have...

Sand Cave - Underground Railroad National Historic Site
Historical landmark
ππ Google will take you to the end of the gravel road. I parked on the side of the road and took the mud trail in.
The trail is in bad condition, as if someone has been driving and ATV racing on it. Keep going and eventually you will find some 1980s era signage that marks the start of a foot trail alo...
