Burgess Falls
Scenic spot
ππ There is a look out spot, this gets you the full view of the falls. You can take a small trail down leading you to the top of the falls. Both are beautiful views.
The path that leads you to the bottom of the falls is closed, and it's a restricted area. The only way to see the waterfall from the bot...

DePauw Nature Park
Park
ππ We live only an hour away from DePauw Nature Park. Iβm surprised we havenβt hiked this gem of a park before. Easy to find, good parking, and the trails are visually pleasing. I thought the hike was easy/moderate. If you like Vultures, youβll love this place! There are tons of them around. The...

Window Cliffs State Natural Area
Nature preserve
ππ Best hike in this area so far! It says it's 5 1/2 miles but it adds up to about 6. We counted 30 different fungi, 15 different wild flowers, and saw all kinds of wildlife! Do not wear hiking boots, wear something you can get wet and that won't slip on the slick rocks in the river. Wet hiking boots...

City Lake Natural Area
Park
ππ Neat little gem of a place. Very easy walk to the falls and we pretty much had the place to ourselves. Half paved and half gravel. Nice place to take a short break from driving to get a little fresh air.

Project P.L.A.Y. Park
Park
ππ They've redone this park recently in the last few years, so it's nice. It even has a water splash area for summer fun. My girls love it. Plus there are different age appropriate areas throughout. Toddler ship with small slides, and a lookout telescope. Bigger kids area has a super high slide that h...

Oconee Springs Park
Campground
ππ We came by boat to play on the inflatables outside. $15 a person and we got to enjoy an hour on them before they closed. Honestly there were more adults just sitting out there in the way more than anything. The staff was friendly and helpful even docking the boat. Would definitely go again maybe dur...

Melrose Heritage Park
Park
ππ A sweet, little small-town park in Melrose's town center. There is a gazebo, kids slides/swings, and a small building with local Historical Society memorabilia. Farmers market/goods on Friday afternoons and some Saturdays. Special events all year in the park and in the adjacent Mossman Hall (art sho...

π DO NOT RECOMMEND FOR OVERNIGHT!
We pulled in around 6 pm on a Saturday night with the goal to spend the night primitive camping in a rooftop tent. There were several lovely spots under the tree canopies, steps away from the river view. We were so stoked to have the place to ourselves. Had our dinne...

Big Walnut Nature Preserve
Nature preserve
ππ Beautiful hiking trails that touch the creek. Lots of up and down, but not strenuous. Paths are cleared but not super wide. Not at all crowded. Went on a weekend and only saw one other couple. Was pretty dry when we went, but some trails cross streams that were shallow at the time.

Tanglewylde Nature Park

π The mosquitoes are huge and numerous. The self contained outhouse is the source of a massive disease carrying mosquito population. If you value your health, STAY AWAY. Poor drug infested county with no money or resources to maintain a park system. Keep the people of this county in your prayers.
